Well, they did influence each other an awful lot in college. You can hear a lot of Buckethead in Paul Gilbert as well. Big Sur Moon came before the Echo song, Binge and Grab came before Hurry Up, Iceman came before Fuzz Universe, and I'm sure there are plenty of other examples of Buckethead having some influence on Paul.

I must admit, I love Buckethead (not in a gay way), but the intro did go on for a bit too long, in my opinion. As I said, I really, really like him, and it got awsome when Big Sur Moon started, and a lot of his shred is really good and badass, but sometimes it's just too much, I think.

Also, Buckethead is just as fast as Petrucci, and a way more versatile guitarist.

And BH is better at string skipping...

How his taps sound is not what's important here, it's the skill it takes to execute them that is. It's really hard to do it at that speed, and Petrucci wouldn't be able to do that.

Also, pay attention to the small details in their playing. Just look how Buckethead can stretch just a "little" bit further than most other guitarists, including Petrucci, and still kick ass. That's talent.

Oh, and I don't think Petrucci has the pinky required to do those taps. Right pinky, that is.

@Merioc2k3 Then again, "you think" as I said many times now we can´t know, the facts known is that Petrucci went to Berklee and had a deal with John Myung to play 9 hours a day at least on their instruments. There are no real known facts about Bucket, just myths such as the PG one you mention so much. Also look at Petrucci play octavarium and such, such complex pieces that he can play as if it was the most simple tune. I´m not saying Bucket couldn´t do it, but it proves they are both great.

I agree, they are both great, but look at all the details in Bucketheads playing, such as how he moves his pinky really fast with very little effort, how he can do those crazy stretches, his picking technique..Pretty much everything!
