  • Those dumb looking fenders on the HD were inspired by a yank who insisted they be put there to give the car extra length.

  • Wow, there's a trip down memory lane.

My dad bought a HD in 1970 for $1000 and sold it in better condition in 1992 after 150,000miles for $1500.

We had the 149 motor originally, but a damaged radiator put paid to that and we replaced it with a reconditioned 186. Made the car far better to drive. Got my licence in that car with the old "three on the tree" gear selector...

  • Wasn't this car initially popular before sales went into decline?

  • Nice looking car. It's too bad it didn't sell very well.

  • HD = Horribly Designed

    HR = Hastily Rectified

  • Hated the HD. Loved the HR.

  • we used to have a blue with black roof black premier interior and worked 192 she was a beautiful beast she was a nice car

  • family had an X2 HD for yrs when i were a kid ,saw many happy family motoring miles

  • the 1965 valiant had 145 hp would leave a x2 for dead

  • @dave440v8 .145 hp from a 225ci 6 ,the HD had a 179ci 6.

  • How dodgy does the highway look....Then again it hasnt changed in parts

  • Strangely the styling looks almost modern from the front, maybe I'm getting old. But I agree, love em. 3 spd column shift, drum brakes, 7 transistor AM radio and a 179 red motor up front, bliss.

  • Nice looking car. Apparently, though, it didn't sell very well.

  • @Seattlecarnut All down to styling. The HR was released not long afterwards, because people really didn't like the front end of it. Nothing else really wrong with them, and the X2 engine carried over to the HR. Compared to the EH, it was a radical change, and Australians didn't like it.

  • @Mechknight73 It's too bad that it didn't sell very well. I've seen pictures of the car, and I like the car. Do you know of any other videos on You Tube of the HD Holden?

  • @Mechknight73 - The X2 model was available in the HR but it wasn't the same engine. The HD had the 179 ci engine the HR had the 186ci

  • @aussiepaul44 This is true, although the only real difference between the 186 and 179 was a sticker on the rocker cover, and the bore and stoke size

  • 140 HP?

  • Curved to increase interior space? Sounds like the VN a couple of decades later.

  • reminds me of getting "car sick" as a kid

  • Great to see this old commercial!

    Thanks for posting!

  • nice cars, my cousin has a blue hd, and let me tell u, it is like a brand new hd, never touched engine, 32 000 miles on the clock, original paint, interior all brand new, and original, never touched, also has the old visor on the windscreen, it was in a holden car dealership for about 27 years, never been touched, beautiful cars

  • It was mostly the edges on the front guards...

My old man had a HD Prem when I was a kid, it was great!

  • I bought a rusty old HD X2 wagon a few years ago -and it did go very well, heap of power..
