I believe the actual title of this special was "Baseball's Heirlooms". I used to have it saved on VHS myself years ago. The special also included segments on Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, and Old Comiskey. I'd love to see the whole thing again sometime.
I can't get over how "young" Kell, Kaline, Harwell, etc. look here.
@agoo7581 Back then in the early 90's the statment was pretty much true especially in the NL with all the multipurpose stadiums like Metrodome, Astrodome, Riverfront Stadium and so on. They were all round and used for Football and baseball.
@thebig1 No kidding. Throw in the Kingdome, Three Rivers, and Busch to that list as well. I loved old Tiger stadium. Even the obstructed view seats were good seats. Sitting in the upper deck at 3rd was always my favorite seat.
@cojo823 The stadium didn't keep the fans away. The fact that the Tigers completely sucked for the last decade was what kept fans away from Tiger Stadium. It was virtually impossible to get tickets during the last season and I guarantee you it wasn't because the Tigers were going to win anything that year with a record of 69-92.
@cojo823 After the first season, Comerica Park was pretty empty most games until the Tigers got good again in 2006.
Honestly, I don't see why they needed to leave. Comerica is pretty bland among retro style parks and Tiger Stadium was so unique and distinctive, it was just irreplaceable.
I was only 13 when the park closed (was at the final game) but even to me, it looks more natural seeing clips of the team at the Corner than at the present day carnival.
Ill give JEFF DANIELS this, he came from detroit...and he's ALWAYS represented DETROIT in the public and PROUDLY **FAR** before it was a popular thing to do, as it seemed to become with celebs like kid rock and eminem. Jeff is class

That statement at the end about the modern baseball stadiums being all the same are dead wrong.

A lot of history but the stadium was old and keeping fans away. The stadium was empty during the final 5 years. Comerica Park saved the tigers.

This is filmed in the 80's. You can tell by the age of Kaline and Kell and the footage of the people and the cars.
