I'm a Jon/Rude man from way back.Had family in the Marina business for 35 years and always OMC dealers. I've built a few that the Mercs couldn't touch but, it wasn't easy, the 90* V is the key to torque at lower RPM.
They can't live long at 7K but, they can be made to swing a wheel a Merc. never dreamed of, at 6200..:-)
wow you are soo right our 200 johnson ocean runner NEVER left us stranded even with a blown powerhead she STILL brought us back home "In Johnson I trust" and i seriously hope they will make them agian or sell the name to someone who will uphold the old trustworthieness of the 94 ocean runners
I remember when the Johnson 135 came out... 1973. WOW! it was the outboard of the time, 135 Horsepower!!!!! The marina I worked at had one of the first ones in the showroom. Also that year they did away with the hydro-electric lower. Many a time I heard of coming into the dock thinking you were putting it in reverse and giving throttle only to propel you faster going forward. I still own a 1981 85HP Evinrude, still going strong!!!!!!
I too remember as a teenager, going to the showroom with my dad, year 1976 and there was a 85, 115 and 135 with trim and tilt. My brother and i begged my dad to get the 135...but he opted just for the 85. It was a SWEET engine...best ever made
0:49 and 2:24 made me cry.I had to leave behined my old 55hp OMC in the caribbean, and take my new 225 BRP back with me to bahrain. I didnt know OMC was gone. Why? How?. great video! It has a meaning.
One of OMC's downfalls in the late 90s was the introduction to FICHT Fuel Injection which wasn't made to stand up to heat and stress and caused major problems.. this was one of the major reasons they went bankrupt
Owned a few of those old outboards over the years. Got out of that type of boating a long time ago though. If it was not for this video never would have known the brand is gone.
Did Bombardier really take over? What became of OMC?
I own a OMC Snowmobile and still Run's and rides Great too bad their gone.

OMC was the best and when OMC owned Evinrude/Johnson they were ahead of every one.

OMC was a grate company They were the best because they were focusing more on the outboard, on the other hand BRP has to focus on can-am,etc.

got a 1968 Johnson just like the one in 1:44. Starts on the first pull and runs like a striped snake. Johnson/Evinrude rules!!

BRP (Bombardier) really did take over OMC and kept both the Johnson and Evinrude name. It's a shame OMC went out of business.

and i think they are taking johnson out of the mix!!

@johnson200gw BRP discontinued the Johnson line in 2007, a truly sad event
