i remember going there as a young bot in the 60,s and I also remember being able to see it from the west side hwy. even after it closed the coaster was there for a while.
I was only at Palisades once when i went there in 6/68 as a part of a 5th grade school trip. I made sure i rode the Rollercoaster and no one in my class went with me. They were all too scared.
If we still had Palisades there would be less of the need for travel to Six Flags Great Adventure. Other than the blatant racism that we had to endure I preferred Palisades over Coney Island. Now that times and people have changed I think Palisades would still be THE amusement park to go to.
What beautiful memories! PAP was such a fantastic place!I grew up in Brooklyn in the 60's but we always went to Palisades every summer...I had left the east coast in '73 and returned in '80 and wanted to visit PAP as soon as I had gotten back, at the time not knowing that it no longer existed... Thank you for allowing me to remember those times.
I grew up in Redondo Beach California in the1960s. Long Beach California had amusement park called The Pike. It was like Palisades Park. Why do they tear down these amusement parks which would of been historical land marks! I guess thats progress. Once again, this song is AWESOME and so is the VIDEO!!
@alexdelrio45 Yes, awesome music & great era.. I don't call it 'progress'. What I see is that the MODERN era we grew up in - included increasingly more leisure time for people. Today - we are well along into a.. 'new' DARK AGE...!!! The fun - just plain innocent FUN.. has been shunted away into the past. Along with our ultramodern & space faring way of life. Once - we could fly to the MOON..!!! We even brought our cars... And now..? Look at America. Ruins in several cities.. Dark...
Wow! PAP wasn't close to get to from Union County as a kid in 1962 at 18 but we loved going because it was clean and different and they had rock and roll shows that were wonderful to hear live and in color (haha! -- all our TVs were black and white!).
Oh yeah..let's build houses and tear down all of our recreational facilities. Palisades was a magical place to visit and work. I worked there from 1964 until the minute it closed in 1971. I have hours of movies converted onto videotape. I will be sharing some it soon. I wish it had audio..but use your imagination.
I'm related to one of the posters.....and lucky for him I worked there for years which has special privelages. Working there was never a day of work...even on bad days. Where can you have a job that everyone comes to have fun and you provide it for them. The pay was lousy...hours long...only 2 days off for me the entire season and I couldn't wait to come back the next day. Great job with video...quite authentic from other stuff I've seen. I have over 600 feet of converted videotape to share soon
Palisades was a staple of my youth. We couldn't wait for summer to come so we could spend our time there. In retrospect, it was the first thing lost to me that I thought I could "always count on." There have been many more since. So now we have Six Flags (which used to be Great Adventure). What happened to Freedomland? In Fair Lawn, we had a little children's zoo called "Dietch's Farm. It was sold off in the 70's for houses. All so sad.

How nice to see and kind of sad. I never had a chance to go there because it was torn down before I was born but I am sure I would have loved it
