Still have the original pair I bought in 1989 and are anything but lame. The quality of the original BBs was exceptional. The filtering allowed all light frequencies thru except short wavelength blue and ultraviolet rays and the clarity was phenomenal. I understand the originals are still available from the company at about a third what I paid back in '89.
