  • what a great job, cool video

  • nice song what is the name of that song pleasE ?

  • true masterpiece !!!!!

  • Chevrolet you make me proud to be American. i loooooove to see the ZR1 eating the Euro boys Porsche for lunch Ferrari for breakfast and Mercedes AMG for diner hahahhahaha lol way to go Corvette builders of Kentucky keep kicking Euro A-- HEY lets see a 1000 hp all wheel drive version and call it ZR+4 chase a little Veyron tail for 1/3 the price

  • @O7ROADKING thing with euro and jap cars is you can get the same bhp for less cc's

  • Comment removed

  • @O7ROADKING well i believe vws are reliable. when i think american i think huge, unreliable, un-economical and poor handling. But you can tune them to the knackers

  • @ReeceLiamAllsop here in America every house hold has 2 or more cars.and cars are made to be affordable.99.9 of them are strictly transportation to and from work.ranging from $8000 to say 35,000 and then you have caddys corvettes Lincolns and muscle cars costing anywhere from 40,000 to around 110,000.most of these cars will go 100,000 miles with out a tune up. just change oil and air filter. my last Ford f150 pickup truck had 290,000 miles on it and i still sold it for $5000.

  • @ReeceLiamAllsop also they never really tried to make super handling cars because are small highways are a lot bigger than the 2 and 3 lane autobahn and a lot straighter. they never realty tried to make them economical because a gallon of gas in the USA back in 2004 was from 1.05 to 1.50 it has since gone up its at around 3.25 to 3.80 a gallon. so now there making cars like the Chevy volt.American cars cost a lot less to maintain then Euro imports.cars from japan are good cars

  • @O7ROADKING you have made a valid point sir.... still dont like how its a 6litre though you dont need that you can go faster with less

  • @ReeceLiamAllsop well to each his own i guess. we'll have to agree to disagree. nice chatting with you have a good Day

  • @O7ROADKING i go to colledge while you read magizines about cars because if you did go to school for cars you wouldnt even bother to pass judgment just because your too stupid to no when to quit doesnt mean your on my level kid and second if your so smart you would know what the average car battery is or in your case was before poping off the mouth like the fool you are

  • @O7ROADKING i know a lot about cars my dad worked on military vehicles i went to a military base since i was five years old seen him do everything from swapping tires to beating dents out of armor plating for combat vehicles i have fifteen years of experience in things you will never touch in your life... your the punk because you think your superior without even knowing what you think you know

  • @O7ROADKING everyday after school from elementary to middle school all the way up untill sophmore in highschool ten years both while going to school and not goin to school i majored in digital electronics and im know majoring in genetics the only thing you are is a runt in comparison to me

  • @O7ROADKING you an arogant you think you know things when dont even know jack shit and suprise i used arogant in the proper context because yor both stupid and wrong

you have everything wrong i can tell you the cam shaft the pistons piston rings what the engine block smoke stack i can tell you exactly what over 90percent a military vehicle is comprised of in our military so dont talk down to random ppl like a smartass because i know more then i let on your an over-assuming dumbass to me

  • @O7ROADKING compared to you i know things you wll never learn because your a puffed up ignorant who thinks he knows everything im the guy who thinks he knows nothing enough to know when i made a mistake why dont you look up what i said google the average voltage in a car battery it will tell 12.7 volts

the computer you use makes you look stupid i just can sit back and watch

  • @ReeceLiamAllsop at the cost of reliability! with 638 HP this Engine will last 150,000 - 200,000 miles with very little maintenance cost try that with any euro car in the Vetts league. ill bet you wont find any over 100,000 miles never mind 200,000

  • @Marshmallowrex Funny how you think anyone gives a single crap about your pea-brain opinion.

  • you know what i lkove about chevy and hate about ford and chrysler its been proven since the c1 that when a man takes pride in his work he accomplishes something its when a company aka ford goes to far that it becomes a problem yet everytime i see chevrolet doing things a little better i still love the 1989 stingwray and the c2 from the 50s but i love how chevy still does whats best

  • @B1itZKr3iGC4 At least ford makes its cars with its own money and not from money taken out of my paycheck courtesy of the u.s. federal government!

  • @odessaboy i know but the funny thing is ford is by far a us symbol an icon of industrialization general motors chevrolet which is owned by chrysler automotives means ford is the only company to remain its own company i respect all three but i disaprove of the concept of second chances but ironically if we lost the big three the nidwests economy would have crash i do think the war however is mostly why it slumped 10years in a war that should be over has cost us trillions

  • @B1itZKr3iGC4 General motors is not owned by Chrysler.

  • @O7ROADKING i dont know whether you wanted an arguement but the only problem is you talked in an offensive manner 2nd its a typo i didnt mean to write it in the fashion 3rd if its a trypo its an unnintentional mistake so stop jerking off at how big you think you are and watch the fucking video like everyone else

  • Comment removed

  • @O7ROADKING i honestly dont care for your mouth right now . most ppl dont know the common car battery is a 12.7 volt battery i know more about electronics a bit too much so dont bitch because i write Chevrolet is own by chrysler instead of general motors vs. Dodge owned by chrysler you want to bitch bitch to someone who knows nothing not someone who made a simple mistake you only pointed out a typo now piss off

  • @B1itZKr3iGC4 your just another Xbox know nothing punk with a big mouth that i assure you you would not use in my presence. grow up punk

  • @odessaboy to me the war is costing everyone but the big three may affect you maybe little susie not saying i agree with what they did because i dont they should have required all of them to pay it back in the next qaurter or something but thats congress divided stupid and inneffiecent ive been register to vote for both state and federal elections i almost shredded my voting registration

  • @odessaboy but my anger is about the whole not just one part

  • This one dude got his C5 up to 1000 horse power but i'm just stumped on how you can boost a corvette to that speed like the sledgehammer.

  • Want* not won't

  • @monarch816 I won't to see a 2.0 turbo 900 HP engine , the most horse power I ever have seen since I have been racing 7 yrs ago is about 250hp a liter , that's a all out race .motor, no street time , harder then shit to even get it started because of timing ?

  • World Class Engine

  • That's awesome, they should have this program for the LSA engine too, I want to build my own Camaro ZL1 engine.

  • thats just awesome

  • These probably earn alot of money

  • and thats what a $20k engine looks like

  • You dont have to be skilled with the equipment they got at that factory, any body can teach a monkey!

  • the only good engine made by GM. The rest is JUNK.

  • @EpiDemic117 How dare you leave the 3800 Series II/III and 4.3L EFI V6s out of your list of good GM engines!? Blasphemer!

  • @GoWfan86 The 3800 series isn't bad. But it's not worthy on my list because of what it is used on. Boring buicks. GM is better known for it's V8's. They should bring back the cross plane V8's with uneven firing order. Has better torque bands.

  • I Bet He Has Never Driven A Corvette Before.....LOL KIDDING!!!

  • perfect !!! keep the good job !!!

  • This is pure eye candy for an ex-hotrod mechanical engineer like me!

  • Wait, do you actually help build your own engine or just get to watch?

  • I can't believe these guys are still using single overhead cams and a supercharger with no intercooling.

  • dear santa......

  • So where can i get the parts to totally build one myself?

  • Who supplies the supercharger for that motor?

  • @danthaman101 i believe its Eaton who supplies GM with the superchargers now.

  • like the corvette, see mine:

    /watch?v=0poS9wNDIl0

    /watch?v=NyRrvnXL3zM

  • build your own corvette engine? like that idea.

only problem with corvettes is they are have a fiber glass body, which is basically plastic

  • best job ever. and you basically know every new zr1, z06, and cts-v out there!

  • Damn good video.

  • The Ferrari V-12 engine build video is better. Sorry obama.

  • @22reTOYOTA but the zr1 is faster than any street legal ferrari sorry ferrari :P

  • @neerredd

Enzo and 599GTO are faster in top speed, ZR1 (proved 2 times) faster than Enzo at Ring.

  • this an art, that engine is art, the corvette is the only reason chevy should be kept alive

  • building engines ,its the best job in the world ,when its also your hobby !

  • Gotta love General Motors!!

  • See all that stuff? That is why your engine never worked.

  • so should i post my address here or how else am i gonna get that ls9 2 my house??lol

  • That was actually a really cool video now if only my mechanic can work that fast, imagine the money that could be saved.

  • does chevy simtest their engines?

  • @jsnyara

They do more than that. Each one gets ran for a certain amount of time alternating between peak torque and peak horsepower to ensure everything works and it's output is correct. I believe they also pressure test the whole system for seal leaks. I read a long article on the LS9 about a year ago and was amazed at the testing they put the engines through after assembly.

  • The LS9 is a pushrod?

  • @flatblackstrat Absolutely. Watch 1:23 - 1:25 he is oiling the tips of them

  • Best of the Best... you are, thanks.

  • @chevrolet You guys truely build the best american cars!

  • he must be bored by doing the same thing all days long :P

  • Thats one sweet looking engine :D !

  • For those of you that are curious, the song name is "Kick Ass" and the composer is "Tempero" ...Enjoy!

  • Beautiful

  • NO! QYE GROSOS EL CORVETTE LO AMO DESDE QUE TENGO 6 AÑOS!! LO AMO TREMENDO COCHE!! AGUANTE !! QUIERO TRABAJAR ASTA TENERLO.!!

  • lol, makes my little garage seem so under equipped.

  • This just makes me want a ZR1 even more. To bad, I will NEVER be able to afford one! You know, my dreams in life are to start another American auto manufacturer, but, I would still Drive GMS!

  • LOL i seen this b4.

  • Thanks for all the feedback. We really appreciate it!

  • Awesome! But, what about the hand-built LS3's over at Wixom? :^(

  • @barnetr2 Those are machine produced just because there are so many made being in the both the Camaro, the base Corvette and their trucks too maybe?

  • @InfinityReign the ls9 has no parts from any other gm engine, similiar yes, but much better quality, and more durable, also the block is slightly different!

  • @neerredd

LS9 block is more similar to LS3, with ticker walls (for higher boost). And I agree, LS9 and LS7 are both astonishing engines, and very different, and both using high quality performance parts.

  • Wow! That's a fun video to watch. Thanks for posting it up. I would like to know how many engines per week each tech puts together.

  • @armysig depending on the schedule of course but normally about 2 engines per day, so 10 per week

  • @Bonneville200 That's great info! Thank you for the reply. Now to have one shipped to my house so I can put it in my 2010 Camaro.....

  • I wonder what kind of discount I could get if I built the whole car???

  • @deanjet - Don't know if you'd get any discount, as building your own engine makes the car cost more. One thing is for sure though, you wouldn't get much of a warranty! lol :)

  • @deanjet No discount. You'll just get charged more.

  • @deanjet You get a lawsuit! :D

  • @deanjet Not much, You have to pay $5800 to help build the engine

  • @deanjet You have to PAY 6 grand to help assemble the engine, there is no discount lol

  • @deanjet well it cost more to build the engine yourself so...

  • i thought corvette trannys were in the back, guess the clutch is up front though

  • Love this video!

  • MassiveLemon, why are you wasting your time.....Monarch just doesn't get it! His loss!

  • that looks like a nice job... i wonder if he gets pay $7.25 a hour... lol

  • Too bad its not a DOHC twin turbo from factory......I'm sure they would have been able to figure a way to fit it in..even with A/C : P ....o well maybe in the future.

  • @lukejenn - No it's not too bad, as a DOHC, twin turbocharger said up would be comparatively every complex, expensive to maintain and repair. A pushrod engine with a supercharger is very straightforward, low maintenance and cost to repair. There are definite benefits with a pushrod engine. The KISS principle does apply. KISS = Keep It Simply Stupid. :)

  • Just amazes me they have to supercharge a 6.2L engine to put out only 638 hp...

  • @Monarch816 It was a choice. It's hard to push that much hp per liter in a big engine without forced induction unless you're willing to compromise emissions and fuel economy, especially when you're not working with a DOHC setup; and they won't do DOHC because the Corvette relies on the compactness of the OHV setup.

  • @d00df00d

That's a pushrod engine. Not overhead cam.

  • @WunderDoob That's exactly what I said.

  • @d00df00d

you said OHV and I thought it said OHC. I don't know why you said OHV. Noone has made a flat head v8 since the 1930s.

  • @WunderDoob 1953: the last year for the American flathead V8 in FoMoCo products. The flathead inline 6 lived on in Hudsons, and in Plymouth and Dodge cars until 1959. The French used a flathead V8 based virtually identically on the Ford flathead V8 until the late 1980s in military vehicles. Sure it's an antiquated design, but it sure did work.

  • @Monarch816 Think about reliabilty, fuel economy, and emissions.

  • @alexjalaff

Yea you're right , lets think about that. A supercharger is a horrible way to keep the engine reliability to the max , they are hard on the engine and just simply go bad after a while. They should just make a more efficient engine everyone else is doing it so why don't they? I don't like the idea of paying a lot for something not as reliable or efficient , you're simply just paying for the shiny "Corvette" badge on the back.

  • @Monarch816

Actually, superchargers tend to be easier on the engine. They don't push PSI like superchargers; you need a pulley upgrade, so you can't just raise the boost tremendously and blow it. They also require less maintenance then a turbocharger; you can turn the car off and go, not leave it running for a while to let the turbocharger cool down, etc. You're paying for arguably one of the best bang-for-your buck cars out there, not a Corvette badge.

  • @Monarch816

This is a PUSHROD engine, not overhead cam. Using valve overlap is a no-no on production cars, they have to use forced induction to raise the volumetric efficiency. The corvette's engine bay dictates a compact setup, so the supercharger is not large. Superchargers consume ALOT of power to make power. Turbochargers do not, they are much more efficient, which is why you can make 600 horsepower of a 2.5-3.0L(common) with strong internal parts and turbocharging easily.

  • @WunderDoob - Superchargers and turbochargers both have their pro's and con's. To unequivocally say one is better than another is not accurate. A supercharger provides instant power with no dreaded turbo-lag. Superchargers also create far less heat than a turbocharger, which aids engine longevity. Superchargers also do not cause restriction in the exhaust system, as a turbocharger does.

  • @Monarch816 look at any other car out there, a bugatti veyron has 1001 hp with a 8.0 liter 4 turbo engine, the zr1 makes pretty more power than any stock car out there, besides 3 or 4 which are higly unobtainalble. also with a exhaust, tune, and pulley upgrade, this thing could easily have 670rwhp +... in yo face

  • @neerredd

Yes it has 1000HP. 8.0 liter engine with 4 turbos. Oh and it has a million dollar price tag. The Zr1 also has a huge price tag and is far from stock. It is modded from the factory to have that performance. I know a person with a car that is 900 hp. 2.0l engine and 1 turbo and it cost him nowhere near a million dollars. The point is people are buying into garbage cars for way to much money. With a engine that big it should be putting out 620 hp without a supercharger.

  • @Monarch816 You bringing bugatti to an argument is hilarious. Your car knowledge shows through your dumb ass comments. Bugatti really? Kids these days.

  • @ChillMood11 Right? Bugattis suck, anyway. They're fat, ugly, overpriced and too reliant on technology. If you want a real driver's car for a good price, the Corvette's the way to go, without a doubt.

@EpiDemic117 Don't forget the 2000-05 Impala LS and 1997-03 Grand Prix GT/GTP. Those are some pretty sick cars, right there.

  • doesn't make a diff who makes it they'll still be overpriced

  • nice man, someone knows the song by the way?

  • @florindogay - Thanks! The song name is "Kick Ass" and the composer is "Tempero."

  • @chevrolet Thanks a lot

  • Interesting idea, very innovative, not only from the experience of it, but from the business aspect of it as well. I havent looked into how the program works exactly, but from the looks of it youre pretty much paying them to do something they would have otherwise had to pay someone else to do. Still pretty neat though, if I was on the market for a Corvette Id be markin the date I go out there and get to workin on my engine.

  • @CelticPoison very true about charging you money to do something that someone else would have been paid to do but the thing you have to consider is they have to supervise you and help you assemble it, and that takes longer than having an experienced tech put it together quickly by himself so Chevy actually does have to pay more hours of wages here. It sounds like an amazing experience for sure though :)

  • This option might be just the thing to sway me from a GT-R to a Z06. I'd pay even more if they'd allow me to blueprint it.

  • Gotta say I'd take a Porsche or Ferrari first.

  • @Harlingtonjnr3 - The mighty Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 would roast the Porsche or Ferrari and for far less money too. The Ukraine generally doesn't have roads where cars like this can be really driven anyway.

  • Wow, that's awesome. What's really cool is that the guy in the video. Mike Priest, built the engine in my 09 ZO6. Super job...one hell of machine! Thanks to all you guys at GM Wixom for an outstanding job building super engines!

  • nice, can i order one with DOHC, 24 valves,Direct injection, minimal 100(NA)hp/L, and other 2010 sport engine design standard's?

  • @johnyqtx The missing bolt: Some engines are balanced externally (not sure on the LS9), but I am guessing that the extra hole contains a locating pin to insure the flywheel mates to the crankshaft correctly each time the engine is assembled. This indexing ensures that balance is maintained

  • @johnyqtx watch it again. It's not missing a bolt.

  • 2:02 there's a bolt missing...

  • @johnyqtx If you look before he puts the bolts in, you'll notice that empty hole is offset. Its probably missing at that point for a reason...

  • I just saw the new ZR1 Commercial, the rocket one! Its cool. GOD I LOVE THIS ENGINE!

  • @Sammyandtodd5 - Search YouTube using Keywords - Corvette ZR1, U.S. Navy Blue Angels and you will find a fantastic video on the amazing Chevrolet Corvette ZR1! Enjoy. :)

  • Wonderful video, nothing like amazing American muscle, would that fit in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche and how much would a job like that go for?

  • @avalanche520

Crate motor is 13k or so without trans, go from there ;)

  • @chavez885 thanks for the info, would be awesome to go from a Z71 to a ZR1 badge on the side of the Av, gonna take it into consideration

  • @godlikestrength What the heck do you not understand about "Wixom, Michigan, USA"

    ?

  • whats the song?

  • @xXasbl00drunscoldXx - The song name is "Kick Ass" and the composer is "Tempero"

  • awesome idea

  • thats great

  • that american right there

  • this is relevent to my interests

  • i can watch this video over and over again!
