i think the sound is like that on porpuse and i think the reason is the mouthpiece. I believe he use a piccollo mouthpice to make it sound like a bumblebee. great played.

And you're right, I'm not a player of his caliber. I'm not embarrassed to hide that either. But I know this video would have been more appealing had there been a little emotion involved. Someone doesn't write a piece without SOME KIND of emotion involved.

Yeah I noticed that lack of emotion too, but his technical skills are crazy good, you can't always have it both ways, especially on a piece like this requiring so much attention to detail and requiring so much concentration... but then again, emotion makes the piece come alive so I understand where your coming from...

@TitanticFAIL Totally true. Plus you can tell that all he has done is just play this thousands of times over to get it down. I agree with the other comments - no emotion. All that said, he still has talent. It just isn't that passionate type of playing that really brings people to emotion, it's just more dry and flawless. If I wanted that, I could simply plug in the notes to Finale and listen. I prefer more of the music with emotion, myself.

Does this kid do anything beside songs that require triple tonguing? There is more to trumpet playing besides this. Ive seen 3 different videos of him that span pre puberty to here. All of them are songs that are just chocked full of triple tonguing and that is pretty much it.

@expostfactum There is precisely zero triple-tonguing in this video. I only noticed one instance of multiple tonguing around 2:25, and it is double-tonguing.  The majority of this piece is slurred.

Yeah I wasn't looking the first time I heard this video and I thought he had a mute in. Then I looked back at him. Maybe it's the quality of the recording? Possibly the auditorium he's in? I'm very sure his tone doesn't normally sound like that.

It's ridiculous to expect every virtuoso musician to "emote" while playing. Look at Tine Thing Helseth and Ronald Romm with the Canadian brass playing and you'll see a person who easily renders difficult music and doesn't grimace, dance around and contort their faces to produce quality performances. Those who are into various "rock", "jazz" and "rap" musicians might want a show along with a performance but the rest of us want to concentrate on the MOST important thing.....the music.
