  • i love the fact it means in german i am a jelly donught

  • @pheidon1 No it doesn't.

  • @pheidon1

No, it's a mistake by stupidity of the Americans. The german jelly donught is only in some regions of Germany called Berliner. In other parts the jelly donught called "Krapfen". But JFK doesn't mean the Krapfen when he said "Berliner". A Berliner is a Citizen of Berlin, so he was right, when he want to say "I'm a citizen of Berlin"

  • @MrSovjetunion

And by the stupidity of you, you call it "Krapfen," while it's true name is "Pfannkuchen"

  • MANN O MANN ihr habt wohl überhaupt nicht den Sinn dieses Satzes kapiert^^ Das sind saustarke Worte in Bezug auf die Deutsch-amerikanische Beziehung damals.

  • @electriktrik

  • Jelly Doughnut

  • Ich bin ein Hamburger, das heißt, ich wohne in "Burger King" :)

  • press 7 for some berlin fun!

  • Ted Kennedy is thinking of all those yummy jelly doughnuts...

  • @thebestresponsedude

That's not exactly true. "Ich bin Berliner" and "Ich bin ein Berliner" both mean "I'm a citizen of Berlin". In southern parts of Germany some jelly donuts are called "Berliner", that's true, but in Berlin they're called "Pfannkuchen" and in the rest of Germany usually "Krapfen". Nobody in Germany misunderstood what he was trying to say.

  • @Spino162

    southern parts? o.0

I'm from NRW and i didn't even know the word "Krapfen" until I was about 12 years old and i never hear that word everyone calls them Berliner

but you're right that nobody misunderstood this :D

  • Lol, dass war gut! :)

  • Ich bin ein Frankfurter

  • @RealLy96 ganz meine Meinung ;)

  • JFK (Y)

    RIP

  • I AM A JELLY DOUGHNUT

  • Heute heißt das: Ich bin ein "Deutscher" mit Migrationshintergrund!

  • How was he a good president?

  • @riverduck3 how was he not is more like it.

  • @riverduck3 From what I can tell, some of the best things he did were to do with the Civil Rights Movement.

  • IHR SEID GROßE FETTE RADIERGUMMIS!

  • He looks like a womanizer to me... a big jelly donut womanizer.

  • ...sagte der Donut ohne Loch :)

  • Love how he ended his speeches - he's like David Caruso, but only without the glasses and the "YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

"...Ich bin ein Berliner." *walks away*

    Gotta love President Kennedy! =D

  • I can't beleive it -.-

Ok, a "Berliner" is speaking so listen up!

"Ich bin Berliner" und "ich bin ein Berliner" dows mean the same thing.

a "Berliner" is a citizen of Berlin OR a doughnut. but i think he means that he's a citizen of berlin.

PS: a "Wiener" is either a citizen of Wien or a german Sausage. a penis is only referred to as "wiener" in english, NOT in german!

  • did he just say hes a doughnut???!!!

  • The allies gave us our freedom back after 5 years of occupation by te Nazi's.

Thanks to the Canadian, the US troops, the Polish, the Brittish and all others

who liberated us from that occupation during WW II !!!

    We will no forget.

    Ruud Mulder

    Netherlands

  • @MrSovjetunion that's wrong I had a brother take german and that's what he said that's what everybody says

  • No, that is wrong. The sentence 'Ich bin ein Berliner' is totally correct. JFK said it in the right way - in meaning and more or less in pronunciation.

In order to guard against misunderstandings in german the word 'Berliner' can be understood as a donut. But in other regions and not in Berlin. Here the right word is 'Krapfen'.

The citizens of Berlin get JFKs point totally. In the next scene you can hear them laugh, because JFK says thank you to the translator for translating the sentence twice

  • I love how everyone starts clapping after he says that :D

  • @Exeptions1 It is the end of his speech.

  • @Heneuso what Exceptions1 is pointing out is that he really says "I am a jelly doughnut" and everyone still claps instead of laughs. Obviously it is the end of his speech, haha

  • No you retards... If you want to say that then you say "ich komme aus berlin" as in i come from berlin

  • doesn't that translate into "I am a donut?'

  • @CBobbert123 Thank you

  • @loganoreilly2112

    No, that isn't correct...

"Ich bin EIN Berliner" and "Ich bin Berliner" is the same and means "I am a citizen of Berlin"

  • Okay, guys. Listen:

"Ich bin Berliner" means "I am a citizen of Berlin."

"Ich bin EIN Berliner" means "I am a jelly donut."

    Case dismissed.

  • @CBobbert123 ''Ich bin ein Berliner '' is the same like ''Ich bin Berliner''

  • JFK said that he is proud to say that he is a jelly pastry

  • John F Kennedy was Great: "I am a citizen of Berlin"

I wonder Why some guys Talk about Donuts...

  • @MrSovjetunion because that's what it translates too.

  • I am a DOUGHNUT!!!

  • einer der besten präsidenten die die usa je hatte. mit einem wie bush wäre der kalte krieg nicht lange kalt geblieben!

  • I AM A DOUGHNUT!!

  • Ich bin dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ist er doch garnicht

  • Er ist ein Nazi! Auf ihn!!! -Abe Simpson- :D

  • i suddenly have a craving for jelly doughnuts AND US PRESIDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Ich bin ein Berliner...komm und iss mich!"

  • @UnewSyorkA lol

  • His face always looked like a jelly donut

  • He didn't say it wrong; why would the president of a freaking country, try to say something in a different language without knowing if it was right? Not like he got a dictionary and pieced it together himself :|

  • It´s totally correct. "Ich bin ein Berliner" means, "I´m a citizen of Berlin" and "ich bin berliner" too ! ! ! I'M A JELLY DOUGHNUT? stupid jerks :-D

It´s totally correct. "Ich bin ein Berliner" means, "I´m a citizen of Berlin"

  • @roggschtaaahr I agree with you.... "I am a Chihuahuan" (someone who was born in the city of chihuahua), is that the same as saying that I am a dog?

also the for weiner or frankfurter or munchner... I mean, there's stuff like this everywhere!

  • Actually, as I understand it, JFK got it right.

True "ein berliner" is also a jelly donut.

But if he had said "ich bin Berliner" it would have been stranger to the German ear, because would have meant something like "I am a born and raised citizen of Berlin". Because the German language has lots of subtleties when spoken, "Ich bin ein Berliner" is in fact (in this context) a perfect translation for something like: "I am one with the people of Berlin".

    Can anyone verify this?

  • I'M A JELLY DOUGHNUT! HAHAHAHAHA! THAT'S WHAT HE JUST SAID! (My German teacher told me this story... he basically said "The whole world is from Berlin... and I'm a Jelly Douhgnut!"

    AMAZING!

  • @BaseballPie - JFK was a cheating, lying jerk and a jelly donut! I really love how he said "ask not what your country can do for you...blah blah blah", yet came up with more socialized program than any other president in history!

  • Its donut not doughnut

  • @TheArab325

Donut is used in marketting. The proper spelling is actually doughnut.

  • Ich bin ein Schnitzel

  • BEER hehehe

  • und ich bin satan!

  • ich bin ein leipziger

  • in english that means " i am a jelly donut

  • Und ich bin ein Wolfsburger

  • ich bin ein frankfurter

  • Isn't Berliner also a type of jam-filled German pastry? So I suppose JFK is also calling himself a delicious jam pastry.

  • donut

  • her er han så Kaldahl......

  • @neger88 he's already dead...

  • @mifrattan1

I know, I'm not an idiot. I was just quoting Abe Simpson in an episode. It's a long story.

  • @neger88 if u really have to say something like that, make sure that everybody understand you're just kidding, quoting, whatever. use " this " signs, please, if quoting.

  • @mifrattan1 - Make me!

  • @neger88 why would i want to make u to use " this " signs? it's just an advise to avoid misunderstanding.

  • Ich bin ein Jari Litmanen

  • ICH BIN EIN BERLINER

  • I always heard that Kennedy said "Ick" instead of "Ich", but he really said "Ich bin ein Berliner".

  • There is no mistake in it.

    ps: im german

  • I can not speak German, but my Finnish is one of the best in the World... So Kennedy didn't make mistake in his speech?

  • @MsPrinceAmir nein grandpa sagt Hoh er ist ein nazi schnappt ihn

  • english translation: " All Free men, where ever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. and therefore, as a free man, i take pride in the words: I am a Jelly-Doughnut"

  • Ich Bin ein Berliner = i am a jelly doughnut

  • @DeadBull17 Not always. There are long ones filled with jelly, called punchkis. And of course, donut "holes".

  • Haha stupid Americans belive in newspapers like the New York Times. Don't belive everything and get better sources.

"Ich bin ein Berliner" is correct. The "Berliner" (the Pancake) was not popular under the name "Berliner" in the 60. It was just called "Pfannkuchen"

  • Ich bin ein Hamburger

  • @Argita

Dann werden dich die Ammis zum fressen gern haben.

  • @Argita Ich bin ein Carlsberg

  • @Argita

wie bescheuert muss man sein, naja was erwartet man von youtube-usern wie dir die keine ahnung und langeweile haben

  • Trouble is 'Ich bin ein berliner' means 'I am a doughnut'. it's true 'ein berliner' is a german doughnut. If he said 'Ich bin berliner' he would have said I am from Berlin.

  • lol. He is a doughnut.

  • @Neoninja2 "Ich bin ein berliner" means "I am from berlin". No trouble!

Berliner means also a kind of doughnut only in some parts of Germany

  • @Neoninja2

eig ist beides richtig, bloß das eine ist eben gängiger.

  • @daveren you talk bullshit

  • would be funny if he made this speech in vienna....cause vienna is in german "wien"

and then he would say "ich bin ein wiener"

    which means " i am a wiener" ^^

  • @skiegiek Hm. Not soooo funny^^ 'Cause I'm Austrian and I hate Vienna xD

  • @skiegiek I think the joke Wiener and Wiener is only understodd by germans.

"Wiener" means on the one side a person that lives in Vienna, and on the other side a german susage;)

  • @sheining its understood by english speakers too cause "wiener" means something like "loser" in english

  • @sheining in english Wiener is another word for a penis (and is also known as a sausage)

  • Ich bin ein Wiener
