  • i love the marketing team who came up with ' city of discovery'. How modest is that for a name?

Its like 'oh theres bugger all here but you will be discovering new things if you havent already been here'

It not promoting anything to tourists apart from the fact that you might not have ever been there yet.

Those marketing people are so fly

  • wot a lot o crap yuo forgot 1 important fact dundee was built on the three j,s jute jam and journalism were was the stack were was the keilor centre were was dc thomson dont know nothing cause your not even from dundee

  • you forgot to put the main local dundee sites of culture....corfu and marmaris kebab shops and the other lidl shops and u you spell dundee >>>>S.C.U.M.D.E.E.

  • Dundee has its issues, mainly poverty. But scotland wouldnt and couldnt be the scotland it is without the place. Everything from ground breaking research to William Wallace starting his crusade to win our freedom began here.

  • @DundeeHillis .....and yet the best Dundee can to do recognise Wallace is a tiny plaque in the wall where the castle of Dundee once stood.

I could never understand Dundee's refusal to overlook our National hero.

  • That is 1 random walk around dundee!!

  • dundee uni is amazing. Dundee and its people however suck, very parochial and dislike the students because they're all socialists.

  • @Jacknapier2010 sorry, but that comment is just plain funny! If you hate Dundee so much then stop watching videos about it.

  • @Jacknapier2010 Who are? the students or the indigenous population?

  • @Jacknapier2010

so what if they ares socialists you dumb retard? if thats the case, socialists are generaly more friendly and anti racist. perhaps you mean facist?

  • u go to dundee uni? :D

  • yeah, in 2nd year...passing sooo fast!

  • im in 2nd year too..it is going faxst =/ (im kellock71)

  • what you studying?

  • I'm going to Dundee University this year in September. Chose it over three unconditional offers from Aberdeen, Stirling and Edinburgh. The uni looks great! I'm studying English, if anyone else is doing that this year then give me a shout =D

  • @MilkyMalc youre going to enjoy Dundee! its amazinggg :D lol...we've even started out own tv series called "skint"

  • polu wraia poli!! kala tha peraseis mwroulini...

  • Well I think I'm willing to give study in Dundee a go. Can't go too far wrong in central student accommodation. I'm from Ireland.

I won't lie- some of these comments would put me off living there. But I went to school in a town with a fairly bad reputation and every city in Ireland has neighbourhoods with bad reputations so I won't let comments about dundee worry me!

  • Heya, I would definitely give Dundee a go! Every single student I know who has come to Dundee loves it. I know people from some amazing places who have fallen in love with the city! The bad things you hear about Dundee are generally about the outskirts of the city (which applies to pretty much every city in the world). The city center is safe as anything! If you get in halls on campus enjoy the 2min walks to lecture theaters! :D Give it a go, or at least visit and make you own mind up :)

  • Thought as much;) Its a postgrad in urban conservation that i want to study. Do you know what campus apartments on hawkhill are like? They're supposed to be new, luxurious but reasonably priced at £3,485 for 50 weeks. I want to share a 4 bedroomed one because it'd be nice to meet new people.

Anyway looking forward to it. Will miss Galway tho but being in Scotland might soften the blow;)

  • Really? The European Urban Conservation course? Thats the one I am planning on taking after I am done my degree. Looks really good and the town planning staff are really nice!

I dont know much about the campus apartments, most people I know live in the Hub next door, but they seem quite good. Very modern and 'trendy' :P

There are a lot of Irish people in Dundee, you probabaly wont notice the difference! :)

  • I emailed the course director about the course and he said if i meet the requirements its likely i'll get offered a place. He seemed very helpful.

I was looking at ur page. Are you in France at the moment? What are you studying for your degree in Dundee? How do you like the university there? I look forward to meeting new people again- Scottish or Irish etc I love the Scottish accents! I've been to Scotland but not Dundee. I'll have to let ya know how i find the course if i do it first :D

  • Nice video=) Reminds me of my uni days in Dundee=) Hope you're enjoying studying there=)

  • Thanks :)

Yeah, uni here is brilliant. Much better than any other uni I know about!

  • I have lived in dundee all of my life and i absolutely love it! I dont live in the best area, i didnt go to the best schools but i still think that the whole place is great! I'm a student so it isnt exactly brilliant not having enough jobs around just now but i wouldnt want to live anywhere else.

  • Everywhere in the world has its good and bad areas, Dundee has a bad reputation, so what! It's only because people focus on all the bad things and forget about all the good things like its 2 brilliant Uni's, the DCA, all the pubs and clubs within a short distance(it makes an ace night out), the bands, artists and all the awesome people who've have come out of Dundee.

Dundee is perfectly imperfect, i wouldnt change it even the smallest bit.

  • Dundee isn't the best nor is it the worst to be honest. There is bad places in every city, but there are also some great places too. If you can't see that, then, well I dunno.. Its a bit sad really. Pampered student life? Yes, thats what they call us students now eh? Yes the factorys have shut down, yes people have lost jobs, but what about the students struggling to make ends meet since they cant get a part time job. Yes. Thats pampered isnt it...

  • I think they are honest ones, but maybe honesty is unhelpful....

  • Honesty is always good. But you have to stand back and take in the good and bad sides of somewhere. How can you claim Dundee is your home town if you can't do that! I have lived in many town across the world, and yes, Dundee is not the best in terms of its economy or appearance, but it does have great sides to it that appeal to people. I have noticed with people that if they live in one place all their life they generally don't see it in its best light.

  • You obviously live the sheltered, pampered student life.

Maybe if you had been brought up in a housing estate on Dundee's periphery your idealism might have gone "oot the windae".

  • Ha! I know a fair amount about living in a housing estate, and yeah, it can be shit. However, I still believe that a place has many aspects to it and for the sake of your own mind you have to take a positive approach to where you live. If you don't do that then you will become full of hatred for that place and generally unhappy.

  • I was born in Dundee as were my mother and father....please don't lecture me on my home town....

  • Then please don't make unhelpful comments.

  • Dundee is dying on it's feet...population has dropped by 50,000 in the last 30 years, factories closing, drug addicts everywhere.

If you are from Dundee and have any ambition...Leave!

  • And where might you be from?

I moved to Dundee a year ago and study Town Planning, so I know a fair amount about the city. Dundee is not any worse than any other Scottish city.

  • Every city has its bad areas and good areas. Glasgow has the Gorbals, Aberdeen has Seaton etc. Neither of which are any worse than Dundee. On the otehr end of the scale, Dundee's west end and Broughty Ferry are very popular areas to live in, with students and professionals. With its two universities Dundee is recovering from the factories closing, which incidentally happened across the nation due to Mrs Thatcher.

  • READ OTHER WAY AROUND (comment boxes are too small)

As for the drug addicts, yes, it is a problem, but a problem that every city faces. Dundee has had a hard economic history and you have to give it credit for pulling itself up and becoming a hub for medical research and games technology.

Sorry, but I would defend Dundee till the grave.

  • oh, ok, it sorted itself out...its the right way around.

  • I left Dundee 40 years ago to live and work on the continent. I really enjoy seeing

the Dundee videos which thoughtful people post here.

  • Thank you for the positive comment! A lot of people are blinded by what Dundee has had to face economically and cannot see how innovative and creative the city actually is.

  • scumdee full of pondlife

  • Hi Kat remember me it's dan the guy you're at university with?

  • cool vid...helpful :P

    moving in september too =D

  • It's not a bad video at all.I'm going to Dundee in September and this video has been very helpful.

  • lmao just thought i would :)

  • Snow Patrol met at Uni in Dundee, but they're not a Dundee band. :p

  • I know.... But in my opinion a band can be said to be from the place where they started as a band. :)

  • What does that have to do with this video. It's not a video about snow patrol is it?

  • haha c'est chouette!

and i'm not french btw LOL

  • Then why are you speaking French? :S lol
