Aww the one looks alot like my best friend's bird that he rescued, her name is Hatchet she had almost no feathers when he got her. She has grown alot of her feathers back and is the sweetest bird ever I love her and she gives me hugs all the time!
Peaches just breaks my heart. If I had the room I'd adopt her in a heartbeat! But for me one Too is enough. I have a 10 year old U2, a 28 yr old YNA, a a 20 yr old Cockateil, a 5 yr old TAG, and an 8 yr old Senegal.
I sure hope she recovers fully and lives a long and happy life. She will be in my thoughts always. Sending hugs and cuddles her way. <3 <3
beautiful birds :) i know why some people want to have them as pets, but i dont think birds should really be kept as pets anyway, they belong in the skies :) im not ready yet but when i have a place of my own i would love to adopt a rescued bird or two :)
Im glad there are people like you who care enough about these beautiful birds to do something to improve their situation :) good luck to you, and to your birds for all finding loving 'forever' homes :)
my cockatoo is starting to self - mutilate as well :( and she's in a sweater now to keep her from wounding herself. i change her sweater every week, and as soon as i get it off, i cant take my eyes off her and she starts to pluck out all new feathers growing in her chest area.. and she picks at the scabs as well.. but now she's barbering her feathers around her sweater.. i dont know what to do and i've tried almost everything! :'(
i actually dont understand people who catch and prison those beautifull birds letting them slowly die. They also think the birds somehow understand them as a "human friends"
Its a shame that these beautiful birds do this to themselves because of neglect or other factors. I, myself would love to own one of these, but I'll hold off. I'd hate to give one away because of a life changing situation.
You might wish to hang some cloth, tapestries, etc. in this room... it will cut down on the harsh, shrill, high frequency sound echoes from bird cries, and make the birds (and your) life a lot less stressful overall, not to mention reduce your heating and cooling costs.
Also, when you pet a 'too, consider stroking its feathers the *wrong* way, unlike petting a dog. Petting them the right way makes them edgy, as it can resemble flight.
** Thank you!! ** to all who run rescues. Keep it up!
I think you all are wonderful for taking such good care of these poor creatures. But an FYI the tail game can be a HUGE problem. When you stroke & wiggle the base of the tail like that it can and ususally is sexually stimulating for the bird. This is truly unkind and can cause overbonding and my be a big part of the reason he hated the new wife. I have first hand (finger too) experience with this & have read a lot too. I have many years of bird exp so I'm not just spouting off but want 2 help OK
Peaches hole was caused by self-mutilation. Something in his past caused him to stress out. Cockatoos do not make good pets if you cannot give them the time and energy they need to be happy. If you are considering getting a cockatoo, do your research. Talk to other owners, NOT breeders or sellers, they will not tell you the problems. Look into rescues. A cockatoo is like having a 2 y.o. with a chainsaw.
LOL....totally true about the chain saw comment. Most people do NOT do their homework..and are dismayed that their new pet is 1000% more work than a cat or dog. Anyone who wants one, PLEASE talk to those of us who own them now, and get informed!
Thank you for showing this video & also for giving the information about doing research before you buy any. We love birds so much & we took 4 of this cockatoos on top of the big flock we already have, we spend much time and lots of dollars in Vet, housing, etc. but we are commited to help them live in peace. Hope everyone research long enough before just buying them. Thank you again.

2:13 !! what the hell did you asshole? I have one cockatoo.. I love him very much. Don't this cute parrots hurt. if you did that again, I fucking kill you.. you understand??
what the fuck is worng with white ppl. I mean I see now and then every white bitch calling an animal his/her baby. What the f****? Did you have sex with ur husband or wife to produce an animal. Dumb asses!
Unfortunately, these birds were most likely raised and sold as pets. They don't know how to care for themselves esp in the wild. They can never be released, and must be adopted into patient loving homes. The feather plucking and self mutilation these birds do is generally from being neglected, abused, or from getting attached to a person and then not getting enough attention from them.
I am a momma to one of these absolutely wonderful babies !!!! Who the hell do these people think they are to do this ?? They should be done the same way and made to suffer !!! I would take everyone of those babies home to be loved to pieces !!!! I admire the people who do the rescues and hope one day myself to be able to do the same !
i feel the same way and im 19 and i have a beautifil umbrella cockatoo myself. she is pretty i bought her from a couple of owners who couldnt deal with her no more so i took her in and we just love each other to death lol. she probably be lioving longer then melol

this is so fucking sad ....people need to do read about them and what they can do ...i want one....but i am scared that it would do something like this so i am thinking long and hard about it befor i go and jump into something i might not be able to handle
If you still think you want a bird, definately do your homework and look into a rescue. BlackieO sounds like a nut to me. There are a lot of things wrong with parrot owners that are bad but there are so many more that are loving, dedicated people. I have taken in birds for years and I have a large flock now but adopting even one little friend is a step in the right direction. Esp at a rescue, if you get the right bird you can return it and try again. That way you and birdie end up OK. Thanks
I am asking blackieOnassis. By the way I have two M2's. One a mutilator/plucker and one I have had for years fully feathered. They do get better! My mutilator was in horrible condition a few years ago. No feathers on legs, chest, wings and a hole bigger than the one on the video. Some people gave me bad advice. I educated myself and learned that these birds need a life out of the cage! I'm done.
I can't help but wonder what you meant by "It is terrible what I live through". I checked out your vids and your bird looks happy, seems well cared for... I love how intellegent and loving birds are and how much fun and joy they bring. Please enlighten me if you will. Thanks,
Toos may look fun, happy & cuddly, but, they can live to be +100.
Imagine you are a young bird, learning to socialise, with a happy loving home, cuddles & scritches galore. Something changes, there isn't room for 'the bird' any more. No idea of what happened to your beloved human. You're passed on to someone who knows nothing about birds.
You're ignored, the only way to pass the time is to pull your feathers out and to make holes in your chest.
I have 8 cockatoos and I disagree with you........ Anybird can be cruel. Doesn't mean they will be....I had a lovebird that killed a Budgie.......
I have seen an Amazon bite another's bird foot off.
It all depends on the bird's personality and how it was raised etc......
That is a cruel statement to classify all toos that way. Yes, maybe some have done damage, but that again is true of all birds.....They can, but will they?????
My apologies, I think I came across wrong because I had to edit my comments due to the character count limit and didn't check them before posting. What I meant to say was that it is cruel to own Toos if you don't understand them, and the lifelong commitment they require. I was trying to comment from the birds point of view.

That is totally not true. Birds pluck or mutilate for a reason. They don't just decide one day, Oh, I think I'll pull out my feathers and bite a hole in my skin. Come on, that is a really ignorant thing to say. Please educate yourself on the reasons they pluck before making such a comment.

It is true, my Cockatoo Umbrella also dont mind the tail game, she loves it and she don't mind the rubbing, its means a play time, if the cockatoo was bothered it will show or scream loud but now he/she looks pretty happy.

I cannot imagine what those poor babies must have gone through and they are still so trusting of humans. It shows you that they know when someone is trying to help them. I wish places would stop breding them too. There are plenty of animals to adopt without making more.
awe that was so sad :[ i feel so sorry for sydney and peaches. Kira is so beautiful!!! why did they pull his tail ?? it didnt look like he liked it and they were pulling really hard it must have hurt him
Actually, I heard one of the people say that Kira's "daddy" tell them that he likes his tail pulled. And if he didn't like it, he would turn right around and give the person quite a bite! No, I think that he's quite emotionally balanced and just loves the attention that he's getting. I don't even really think it would hurt, kind of like gently tugging on a pony-tail of human hair.
You never pull hard to hurt but the one thing they should have mentioned is that by wiggling the base of the tail like that can be sexually stimulating to a bird and that can cause big problems. I learned the hard way. Their reproductive organs are right there and fondling like that is stimulating. So if you ever own a large bird especially or any size please be careful about stuff like that. It is like being a teaze and then they can get frustrated overbonded and agressive and big bites owie~
And also if stimulated in some species females can start laying unfertilized eggs, so many of them that they get a calcium deficiency, which means bones getting fragile, and possibly even death.
It's sad to know that these beautiful birds can self-mutilate themselves; but they do. Sometimes they evern rip open their chests if they get irate enough!
I really don't like the fact that Kira had to be given up, but I am happy that his "daddy" did the responsible thing with his buddy and gave him to a good shelter to be adopted to a good home. Too often animals who were considered "pets" and "members of the family" get left behind. Kira is most certainly a lucky yet happy bird.
Sydney will be going to a cockatoo sanctuary in Washington DC. Peaches had surgery and got her chest stitched up. She's going to have more surgery to remove the scar tissue.
Yes, it's so sad when they don't have a home and their own "flock". I wish breeders would stop breeding. There are more birds in sanctuaries needing homes thatn there are people to love them.
Can the bird really survive with an opening in the chest?!!
