Fix the title please. I was shocked that Edith Piaf sang this. Then, I clicked on it and heard that it was Pink Martini's "Sympathique."
The lyrics come from Guillaume Apollinaire's poem "Hôtel" from Le guetteur mélancolique. The French composer Francis Poulenc used the exact sentences from the poem as lyrics for his 1940 composition Banalités, FP 107 : II. Hôtel
This song is PERFECTION. I'm sitting on my desk, on a monday morning, feeling like crap and all I can think of is: "I don't feel like working", and suddenly, I listen to this song... This might be a sign!
But this is based on some other song right? Because the first time I heard the Pink Martini song I knew the tune and some of the lyrics and I remembered thinking "Wow I haven't heard this since I was a child!" (I'm in my 40s)
ok, after chicking wikipedia .fr .de and .en it seems that this song was invented by pink martini ... quelle surprise!!!!! sounds really old ... but if you know it's young it sounds also too clean ...
It's not Piaf singing this song. Listen carefuly and you'll notice an accent in some the words she pronounces (i.e the word travailler and the word fume). It's more than likely an Anglophone signing.
Did Piaf ever sagn this song? I don't think so. But in this version it is not her and I'm 100% sure about it.
oh good, i thought something was off too, with the accent. i think what's happened is it's half and half - the opening sounds piaf, then it sounds like pink martini
That version was recorded by the orchestra Pink Martini. It was posted elsewhere and some one commented that it was a Josephine Baker song. I don't know if that person was right or not.
i think the same..why do all say that this song is from edith Piaf? i've bought the album ''Sympathique'',and it said that Pink Martini have wrote music and lyrics..
why so many people believe it is Edith Piaf?
