conner when he was on the show called in the heat of the night i couldnt get into that show like i do with this one we will never see a show like this on tv in this day an age i remember as a young kid sitting in the living room floor with my grandfather & grandmother watching this and he would be laughing the whole time they had one of those big cherry wood tv sets the screen couldnt have been no bigger then 21 or 25" but the wood case it was in was huge
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of women had checkups and became more familiar with looking for lumps during self-exams because of this episode. When Betty Ford went public about her breast cancer while she was First Lady, apparently the number of women going to their doctors to find out more increased dramatically. We forget that even as recently as the mid 70's, cancer of any knid just wasn not discussed.
Jean is SUCH a jewel. So is Betty and Carroll and Sally and Rob. All good actors. Lear found the right chemistry in all these actors for this series. I hated this show when it came out. My parents loved it. Nowadays, I can't watch these episodes enough. TV nowadays is as busted as this country has become.

A VERY well done episode and wonderful acting, as well. I hope this taught a great many women to do that self-exam thing. I remember in Sex-Ed in High School they had this prop they brought in. Rubber set of boobs and you could tell exactly where the "knots" were since so many people had felt them up. Still interesting, though. Thirty years later, it's still VERY important. You women, CHECK yourselves!!!!!
Does anyone know the name of the episode where Edith cooks cabbage all day for St. Patrick's day and she is supposed to be off of her feet? That episode was a tear jerker like this one.

I find it intersting that they brought up subjects back then that are relevant now.
