  • I love you Karen ... you are missed

  • "Effortlessly" beautiful voice....

  • I miss her.......her brother is genious and now she gone. Leon russell wrote this and his version is best but she was so good.O well ..........Makes me sad she died so young..goodnight Karen

  • She always sounded like she had a huge reserve tank.

  • good voice

  • I love her overdubbed backup vocals on Carpenters records. Nothing on earth sounds like that. Its like taking Linda McCartney out of Wings vocals. Its just not the same.

  • For my one true love. . .SRT

  • i wish people my age would appreciate music like this. I am fourteen and i love this song

  • Made to be enjoyed on a cold day, with a wood fire blazing and a glass of port to hand. This song is part of a cluster of tracks at the end of the Song For You album that together make up one of the best concept pieces ever. It really needs to be listened to in the context of the album.

  • Pitch.. Our Karen had it and she should be what comes up when you search that word on Google...

  • To my sweet Mom, Brenda....There's no one more important to me...can't you please see through me cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you. You taught me precious secrets of a truth withholding nothing. You came out in front and I was hiding but now I am so much better and if my words don't come together listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding. I love you in a place where there's no space or time. I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine. Love, Michele...

  • I dedicate this song to my mother and best friend, Brenda Mae. Mommy...I love you in a place where's there's no space or time...I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine. And when my life is over...remember when we were together....we were alone and I was singing this song for you...... With all my love and gratitude from your daughter, Michele Renee

  • @PhillyC187 that is so touching,i was in a coma, not my ex-wife stood in the hospital with me but my sister came to see me!

  • Her voice tears me completely to shreads!! Always has!!! God bless you Karen!!! You've blessed us in so many ways!!!!

  • um verdadeiro clássico simplesmente linda

  • linda música!!! 31 pessoas não gostam...será que gostam de que?

  • i MISS HER EVERY DAI OF MY LIFE... SHE WAS A SPECIAL SINGER AND HER VOICE WAS SIMPLY THE BEST!!!! I WILL LOVE YOU FOR EVER, MY DEAR kAREN... MISS YOU

  • An original

  • Tears, Karen, Leon, Beauty, Music... Time... Life... GORGEOUS! SWEET!

  • One of my favorites by Karen. I remember it on the radio in the 70s, though it was not released as a single. In response to a post that said Whitney's version had soul and even Christina's had soul, but Karen's didn't, well, this version certainly moves MY soul. Please don't define soul for the rest of us. Karen's version moves me in a way that the other versions don't. All their wailing and vocal acrobatics mean nothing to me. I don't relate to it. Karen's version has soul and touches MY soul.

  • ベリーぐっと(すっごい)!!

  • This song has been performed and recorded by hundreds of singers, nevertheless it has never been nor will it ever be performed like Karen Carpenter did. Funny how no matter the song, after she interpreted it, it became "hers and hers alone". I miss you every day, Karen. Your voice brings comfort to my soul every time.

  • if you pick dislike, please explain. it's inconceivable to most of us.

  • WTF????????????? What is there to dislike about this video???? I don't get it retards! try again!

  • This song is not for 31 fools!!!

  • Incredible, incredible voice. I'm always astonished when I hear it. Those low notes - gorgeous.

  • she was sacred now and then

  • "I know your image of me is what I'd hope to be."

Wouldn't we all love to have someone who gave us that image of ourselves. ...ahh. In a perfect world....

  • i love you Cindy

  • i love you Andrea!

  • Non so quali sensazioni sento quando ascolto con il cuore questa canzone: so solo che ogni volta mi viene da piangere. Grazie ai Carpenters

  • Child - " Daddy, who's the best singer that's ever lived "

Dad - " Karen Carpenter by a country mile "

Child - " How do you know that ?"

    Dad - " I have a pair of ears .. "

  • @Joseph171094

    Great post!! :))

  • U are a FRIEND of mine

  • this song has a very interesting refrain, bridge--very sophistacted--not your typical 32 bar wonder. And what can one say about Ms. Carpenter--she is divine.

  • incredible vocal artist.

  • beautiful too, love music touches the soul!

  • Beautiful, Carpenters ...

  • Covered by Amy Winehouse and will be on her new album out Dec 5th.

Amy sang this at her home in the spring of 09 and halfway broke down and cried.

  • Karen,Amy,DonnyMiles,Jaco,etc.,etc. all took the train to the NITECLUB

  • I love you in a place where there's no space or time.

  • This is definitely one of my Carpenters songs. Karen's voice is so timeless.

  • If I am an astronaut and someday meet an alien, I would play this song to "him" . I think we can be friend then.

But I hope my teammates are not kid enough to play Bieber to "him"...

  • The Carpenters took their lumps from the critics of their time - lyrics too "saccharin" they said... But like fine wine, their music has aged well over the years and occupies a place in music history transcendent of their contemporaries criticism...

  • It is all about the low notes, there are three who have the control in the lower register that Karen had: Sarah Vaughan, Mavis Staples and (gulp) Anne Murray. Everyone else wails away. In this song it is all about the timing in the "and I'm singing this song for you" at 0:25. Andy Williams does this as well (it is the phrasing that Uncle Leon wrote. Nothing against all the others who miasmize this phrase, but the close cluster is wonderful.

  • "A Song for You," will be on Amy Winehouse's CD due for release in December 2011.

  • i just love KAREN CARPENTER....

  • The two greatest female vocalists: Karen and Agnetha of Abba......

  • I'm happy to say I had the pleasure of meeting the man who wrote this song, Mr. Leon Russell, and he was a total gentleman, even granting me an autograph. One of my favorite song writers of all time. This song bears a lot of the responsibility for that.

  • @Rudy61287 and he also wrote thier hit "Superstar" He's a true master

  • Whitney Houston violently murders this song....Karen makes vocal love to it. Exquisite

  • @edwardphyllis Karen Carpenter, a song's best friend.

  • So nice:) Though I wasn't able to see her personally due to our generation gap yet her voice is still powerful and caught the taste of my ears. :)

  • Love you Karen and you will be missed forever precious angel! I know you are singing with the angels Miss You!

  • Karen has the best voice.

  • her angelic voice and a dazzling sax riff--this made my day

  • In Litlle Girl Blue Part 2 (What I did with all the money I made off of Karen Carpenter's misfortune) Randy Schmidt should pay his usual kudos to him, himself & he & mention to the world that he indeed is denton's teacher of the year, & Remind the people once again that put him on the NY times best sellers list that, He became a Carpenters fan in 1989 after watching The made for TV movie, The Karen Carpenter story, WOW what a historian (NOT) How many you tube channels does this guy have?

  • One of the greatest sax solos of all time.

    Miss you so much, Karen.

  • Inside and out, Karen Carpenter was one of the most beautiful Souls to ever be on this Planet..........even Hypatia of Alexandria can't rank with her. May Karen's memory last as long as the Earth itself..........surely no voice in the Cosmos could ever be as sweet........and Human.

  • i love the carpenters i grew up with thier music and i love it itt is too bad that karen died so young thier will never be a voice like heres again we miss you karen

  • I love her voice. I am 19 and I wish I would have been alive back then but her voice always live on.

  • Whomever disliked this is a real hater!

  • If you don't get emotional or melancoly when this angel sings then you're not human imo. Sweet Jesus what a talent! This woman could have sung the alphabet and I'd be in tears :)))

  • we love you karen xoxoxo

  • Much props to Mr. Russell for writing such a beautiful piece, but the late Donny Hathaway completely made this song, as far as I'm concerned. The accompanying instrumentals are absolutely epic.

  • Her voice is like no other...beautiful!

  • The sax, it talks!

  • I Miss her so much....hurt's to know she's gone never be another voice or talent like she had....Peace unto you Karen...U ARE MISSED

  • Kinda addicted.. the more i listen to her songs. The more I fall deeper to her beautiful voice.

  • the lyric is owesome carpenters too

  • i remember listenning to this with my first girl i will always hold a special spot for debbie

  • The voice of an Angel

  • One of my favorite songs from them!! I am sure Leon Russell felt honored with this version.

  • @rndchemist I loved it too....

  • Karen Carpenter and Helen Reddy did the best versions of this song without question. Helen's version is posted above for those who never heard it.

  • 28 people are nobs!!!!

  • こんなに泣けるなんて・・・

    名曲です・・・

    カレン、ありがとう。

  • Purest harmonies in the history of music. you cant help but surrender

  • who did this first?

  • Comment removed

  • @housebanks22 Leon Russell wrote this for his first solo album 'Leon Russell', which was released in 1970 on Shelter Records. A slow, pained plea for forgiveness and understanding from an estranged lover, the tune is one of Russell's best-known compositions.

  • mo one will ever replace karen carpenter, one of a kind.

  • 27 zombies simply haven't any soul

  • Que dire.........c'est une voix exceptionnelle .Un magnétisme fou...une mélodie harmonieuse......et un frère sympa comme tout .

  • Too bad you didn't hang around to actually meet the young lass. The Carpenters are awesome.

  • With all of the music I've heard in 50 years on this earth, I could listen this, and It makes me happy. Great song!

  • @pheasantsway6 I got 61 years......And I agree, my friend.

  • Homenaje a KAREN CARPENTER

  • ~As yng.-bachelor in HollywoodHills circa-'70, late to an appointment, I spotted 'girl of my dreams' in front of a VenturaBlvd. Audio-shoppe. Double-parking my Corvette, i strolled over for closer impression! She was testing a Mic.; -i became enthralled by her voice & loveliness, and told her so; -she smiled graciously thanking me, then proceeded with the Mic. -Was later told by shop-owner- "Robair you should have stayed, ms.Carpenter hoped to become acquainted"; --i'm still heartbroken..!

  • your life is over yet we're only together in your beautiful songs. come down my dear, and sing to me your latest song in heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • @AryanKnight It was the mid '70's, and she was testing a mic. As the Geico commercial would say: "you'd have to be living under a rock" to not recognize the voice, if not the face by the mid-'70's. You sure it wasn't a "Ms. Carpenter", and not THE Karen Carpenter?

  • Comment removed

  • "...and when my life is over, remember when we were together:

we were alone and I was singing this song for you."

    Thank you, Karen.

  • ~an absolutely sterling composition, and an equally inspired performance by Karen and gifted bro-Richard, --plus the wonderful interim tenor-sax solo by the brilliant Bob Messenger which captured the very essence of this lilting melody and mellifluous vocalization by ms.Carpenter, --whom like early/mid -Sinatra and enduring JackJones, -had the pipes to deliver the goods! . ~Robair

  • great song. . . . great voice . . .

  • gavin degraw and michael buble's version gives me the goosebumps .. but without the carpenters, this very beautiful song wouldn't have been made ! ^_^

  • remind me with this song when i was young,i have to go to in my neighbor house,

    just to played this song,back then,i was10 yrs now,am in a mid age,and i still love

carpenters,hi, Gloria tubing,i hope you read this and i guess, you know who i am?

  • we miss you karen, one of my favorite song, what a voice,

  • People are waxing lyrical about how great Amy Winehouse was, the girl had talent which she never realised; that's the worst thing; she hadn't offered anything in music for years. On the other hand, Karen marked herself as a legend through the biggest selling albums of all time, a true endearing legacy to a lady who HADso much more to offer. No comparison I'm afraid. RIP Karen and Amy.

  • @1980Houdini If there's no comparison then why are you making one?

  • @1980Houdini I respect both Amy and Karen. Amy is my generation, Karen my mum's. I dont think there is any reason to compare them. They're both legends in their own right. Amy also had the best selling album of the century in the U.K. She also had so much more to offer and that's what bought me back to this song again, as her posthumous album is to be released December 5th and she covered this song, which we be equally amazing as Donny's and Karen's version, I'm sure. R.I.P <3

  • @1980Houdini They were both great doing what they did best, singing from deep their hearts.

  • This is one of my favourites .

    RIP Karen

Does anyone know what Richard is up to these days? I guess enjoying his retirement

  • im glad i have the CD with this song

  • What clarity and range and control vocally. The world stops and listens whenever Karen sings

  • for my one true love---srt

  • love this song so much... honey this is song is for you! i love you!!!

  • You'll always be remebered by the wonderful songs you sung.one of which is A SONG FOR YOU.....a classic song that will linger in my mind for the rest of my life...a day after tomorrow.

  • God Karen I miss you.

  • ... its hard to find words to describe this beautiful song ….. at the very least its breathtakingly lovely…. To the 26 dislikes ( so far ) may God forgive them ….

  • So sweet, what a tune. Karen Carpenter, ELLA Fitzgerald, Luciano Pavarotti, and last but not least Frank Sinatra; vocalists who could truely reach the soul.

  • Lovely song sung by a lady with a beautiful voice who passed much too soon. You are missed Karen.

  • hoy my God, this is a best voice the world !!!

  • Hauntingly beautiful! This Song makes me shudder!

  • Leon Russel Wrote this masterpiece. What a genius! She really breathes life into it! Miss those 70s!

  • mom this song is for you thanks for the 45 I played it night and day love you c.n I will see again when it is my time R.I.P

  • Love it if you could take a listen to my own cover of this classic song.

  • The VOICE that never got replaced !!

  • Awesome!

  • :'(

  • thank you for your song

  • I bet her recording of this song made Leon Russell cry! What a voice! RIP, Karen... you made millions of girls want to sing, play the drums, and rock. You opened the door for generations, and I'm so glad I got to see you in person. What a lovely soul.

  • Karen has a "gift" (i think that's the right word)...

a gift that enables her to sing a song and make it sound and feel as if...

    - she sings for no one but you.

    - she sings with only you in mind.

    - she invests in every emotion that the song require because every song is for you.

  • My 8 year old son compares this version with Michael Buble's. Every time he hears the iPhone playing Buble's version, he tells me to play the one with the lady, it's so much "smoother"

  • Karen still lives on in music. What a fantastic voice.

  • i love u karen, you have touched me in so many ways, the world isnt the same without you xx

  • What an amazing voice. Minimal instrument arrangements and her vocals are mind-blowing. Gone are the days when singers actually could 'SING'. Wish I was born in the 60s or the 70s...

  • Karen was on of a kind. It makes me sad what happened to her everytime I hear her, but she could sure sing.

  • She had a haunting voice that cut right to the soul.. One of a kind.

  • @lvonn - In a lot of her songs her voice sounds like a woodwind instrument.

  • @soakthisup Great comment, such an accurate description......and her tones in this cut proves your truth.

  • @soakthisup Hence her last name. :D

  • @soakthisup always thought this. karen's lower notes go right through my body. even more gorgeous now that pop singers have strayed so far.

  • the coming together of two great artists, Karen singing a Leon Russel song. Magic!

  • The voice of an Angel

  • Your voice is Oh! so gorgeous, Karen your stay on this planet has left so much for some of us to enjoy, I am now approaching my eightieth birthday. perhaps if there is another place you will be topping the charts BUT HAPPILY? F_ANTASTIC LADY.

    Thanks you-tube.

  • voice of an angel love and miss you so much.......

  • This is my favorite song of all time. Leon Russell and Karen Carpenter make this difficult to sing composition truly unforgettable.

  • @greeneyedstone42

I perfectly agree with you, this is the best song ever written and I cry each time I listen to it, no matter who is the performer!

  • @greeneyedstone42 Michael Buble, does it serious justice as well.

  • @greeneyedstone42 ....Leon Russell, Karen Carpenter, Willie Nelson & Ray Charles...!

  • @innreal2 you just copied that sentence from wikipedia, didn't you?
