Sweetie is a sexist term. I don't blame Obama for saying it because it is almost used on reflext. But watching that clip with him surrounded by a group of men who laughed when he said it, he sounded very superior. You don't call a proffessional woman sweetie. Or any woman for that matter. I mean if you go to a female docter and be like 'sweetie, I have this really sore throat, Can you do something about that?' it would be innappropriate. sweetie is a term to be used with close family only.

I do not like Obama, at all. But he did absolutely nothing wrong by calling this woman "Sweetie." Honestly, WHO CARES? Are we really that sensitive where we have to put ourselves in complete outrage because our president referred to a young woman as "Sweetie?" Now if he said "Hold on one second LADY." That sounds somewhat derogatory, but still, it doesn't necessitate all of the media attention.

It can apply to either gender & there are no limits on age.
The term is used to endear someone & it is also used as a term to patronize.
He's only human.
If people are interested in wasting time blowing dust in their own eyes so they can see what they choose instead of being realistic, by all means, run with it.
