  • I had a Roosevelt Franklin hand puppet when I was a kid.

  • Rosevelt Franklin voice by Matt Robinson, father of Holly Robinson Peete ...?

  • @goodymfla Correct.

  • @NantoVision1 RIP Matt Robinson

  • @goodymfla Rosalind Cash is on the record

  • @0ldman0tis GO ROSALIND!!!!

  • His voice sounds so different in every clip.

  • This video brought back some memories. I didn't know the voice behind him was your father.

  • I watched this with nieces & nephews when it was on. All I could remember was "Tuesday, Tuesday, I eat my grits and eggs!"

  • Who were the other voices besides Loretta Long and Matt Robinson? There were 4 muppets.

  • @JGCooney My guess is they were random kids and here is my guess on the puppeteers

    Roosevelt-Frank Oz

    Mrs. Franklin-Jim Henson

    Kids-Carroll Spinney and Caroly Wilcox

  • @muppetlover16 I think the kids are being operated by the same puppeteer, one on each hand.

  • roosevelt franklin's got SOUL - - with a capital 'S'!

  • I never seen Roosevelt Franklin on Sesame Street before until now....brings back a lot of memories. I also own the original LP that contains all the songs plus this one too.

  • @imthebrother - I could see how they would say that but ithink that Roosevelt was great.

  • Roosevelt Franlin was eventually faded out from SESAME STREET because special interest groups wer complaining this character was an ethnic stereotype.

  • @67nairb figgers! Stereotype or not, he was a cool kid! I'm sure most blacks wouldn't be offended by him

  • @SnowbirdFlock I wonder why they chose the name Eoosevelt Franklin?

  • @67nairb I mean Roosevelt Franklin.

  • @67nairb The name Roosevelt may've been used a lot by black Americans in the mid-20th century. We even read a novel in grade 4 about a black American boy named Roosevelt Grady. The same may be true for the name Franklin; the black boy in Peanuts has the name. I'm just guessing

  • @SnowbirdFlock I thought the name had something to do with President Franklin Roosevelt spelled backwards. Roosevelt was geatly admired by many blacks inspite of the fact that he did nothing about civil rights during his presidency. Infact, I read that he appointed a former Ku Klux Klansman to the U.S. Supreme Court. It was Roosevelt's wife Eleanor who was concerned with the issue of civil rights for blacks. I will stop this post now because I'm getting off topic.

  • @67nairb

Well, my grandfather was no fan of FDR, on the other hand I can't hear of our 33rd President without thinking of the jive-talking Roosevelt.

  • @MsPandaRosa FDR was our 32nd President not 33rd. That was Truman. Anyway, I don't think Roosevelt or Truman would've anything in common with jive-talking Roosevelt Franklin.

  • @67nairb

Sorry, miscounted. But who's to say Pres Roosevelt or Harry Truman wouldn't have enjoyed RF's spin on things? He certainly knew how to pep things up!

  • @MsPandaRosa Because FDR and Truman came from an enetirely generation that disliked jazz and would certainly be appalled by rock n' roll.

  • @67nairb

I'm thinking more of RF's upbeat attitude, which would perk anyone up. And for all we know, maybe Churchill or Roosevelt did like jazz, at least I never heard that they didn't.

  • @MsPandaRosa Perhaps. I think I Roosevelt Franklin that he likes to eat his grits and hash at 1:13-1:27. That could be perceived as a black stereotype to some.

  • @67nairb

I suppose, but it's a pity; you don't have to be black to like grits and hash. FWIW, I am not black nor crazy about grits, but I do tip my hat to both.

Like I said, it's Roosevelt's upbeat attitude that appeals to me, and from the looks of other comments, not a few other people as well. He is one smart dude.

  • @MsPandaRosa I Understand

  • @67nairb I Know

  • @cstoczyn You know what?

  • @67nairb About How Franklin Roosevelt, Mr. Truman, And
