Many people have seen Superman as a parallel to Christ. He dies in battle with Doomsday (Superman Vol 2 #75) and is ressurected (Action Comics #689). In Superman: The Man of Steel #82, 1998, celebrating Superman's 60th anniversary, Superman fights the Nazis and is compared to the Golem by the Jewish.

For all those who think this is silly you CLEARLY don't read comics. Identifying characters' religious affiliations are fun ways for comic readers to sharpen their knowledge of the medium. Many comic heros DO HAVE religious affiliations that sometimes largely tie into the stories. Similar to how sports fans discuss seemingly irrelavent things for fun to test their knowledge of sports.

This is looking at the historical reality of what went into creating the character and not the mythos that only exists in the DC Universe.
