  • I might be gay, but I thought that fellow who played the Devil stole the show, frankly!

  • He was pretty hot. And I liked his voice.

  • why did a commercial start a giant discussion over gays? It's a commercial for crying out loud, you watch and either like it or don't like it.

  • yeah, i'm not a fan of youtube debates, but it's a subject i feel strongly about!

  • awesome commercial.

  • "parades and gay pride days are unneccesary"

I disagree. I hope that they become unnecessary *someday*. But right now, we still need them. When every single mainstream romantic comedy is gut-wrenchingly heterosexual, then yes, gays do need something to reaffirm that they exist and that they're okay. Until we can treat gayness as no big deal; something no more important to one's basic humanity as what they eat or how they dress, it'll be necessary.

  • Alex,

I agree with the idea that people do need something to reaffirm the exist and are 'ok' and all, but gay pride parades don't tend to do that very well. If anything, gay pride parades will scare people off. Whereas a lot of people will keep their fetishes and stuff to themselves, gay parades tend to flaunt them a little much. Like for instance all that leather stuff.

As a note, I'm gay, though I think the parades are bad.

  • yeah, i'm queer and in the same boat...

and of course, i've gotten flack from speaking my mind on the subject but it's kinda scary... there are fewer and fewer queer people around that know the history of the pride movement and the stonewall riots. a lot think that pride is just some giant block party to get high and get laid... sadly.

i think the issue is that for people to see and understand that we're just like everyone else, we should do our best to show the world our normal selves.

  • Yes, there are still plenty of places where 'pride' is necessary. The problem is the way it's being shown. Having everyone act like complete queens in bright colours only helps to point out 'gay people are different from strait people'. As a result, lots of in-closet guys see the openly gay and say 'well, I'm not like that at all, and I don't want to be'. We DO need pride... just not THAT kind of pride.

Oh yeah, funny vid. Four Stars.

  • Well, we ARE different. In some ways. And in other ways we're the same. JEbonblade said that some of the more flamboyant of us might scare the straights, and he's got a point. However, I look at it as making amends. "Okay, straights. You persecuted us and denied our existence and lynched us, so your punishment is you have to put up with flaming queens now and then." I think that's fair. Tolerance means not liking something, but accepting that it's not your right to try to make it go away. :)

  • That kind of thinking will NEVER lead to equality. Tolerance is a two-way street. On top of that it segregates everyone gay who doesn't want to be flamboyant. It may surprise you, but MOST gay people don't wear tight fitting pants, adopt high pitch voices and limp their wrists. They're exactly like normal every day people, and projecting an image that they should act differently is demeaning to everyone.

  • I can't follow your logic here. If a straight person doesn't understand that gay people act in as many different ways as everyone else, then they're a moron. It is THEIR problem. If an ignorant person sees a flamer and thinks all gays are like that, it's NOT the fault of the flamer; it's the fault of the ignorant asshole. I am not saying all gays should act flamboyant; I'm saying everyone should be free to act how they choose to, and have it reflect only on themselves.

  • I don't have a problem with individual expression. I have a problem with these self-projected stereotypes and segregation. I'll give you an example: at london pride last year there were these huge barriers everywhere to direct the parade. The lines were very clear cut: gays on the inside, wear stupid clothes, everyone else on the outside and point at the gays. this is no expression of pride OR equality.

  • you're right, it isn't the fault of the person wearing what they wish to when they're marginalized... but, this marginalization is allowed to continue because the food that fuels it is still front and center.

besides, if you can prove that being gay doesn't mean a different wardrobe, then those that speak hate and such will find less and less ammunition for their ignorance.

though, there are many other reasons to this, this is only one.

  • That too and the other side for those who want to dress as such as a matter of preference, is accosted as being a stereotype.

    no one can win. :(

but honestly, even if one proves what you say. hate speach wont' go away.

because prejudices are nasty little things that change themselves so they can be right... even if contradictory.

  • That's a really funny video, but you're an ass. Pride days are FUN.

  • Rofl, hilarious
