  • Bought a Lenovo S10-3 laptop today. The computer has a good chance of success, it is not manufactured in a cheap shiny plastic, and you do not have to rip up the whole computer to upgrade it. It has a wonderful keyboard and looks really nice. But we have the fan that pulls everything down to the bottom, it give off an annoying sound, and never stops to blowing. It was a failed purchase. The latest BIOS does not solve the problem with the fan.

  • I've had my S10 for about 6 months now and I haven't had any cooling issues with it. The fan isn't terribly loud most of the time and only kicks in when I'm running video or light gaming (which any light gaming really pushes the system) which makes sense. I do have one of the special S10s with the 1024x576 screen and 2 fans though (I think it was a cellular broadband bundle edition since it has a wireless modem). I have used this utility and it works but I never need it.

  • ya man thx. i have a lenovo s10e that my school gave me and you should hear the classroom when the computers are on! WISHHHHHHHHHHHH all of the period!

  • i have a question related to the tempereature sensor of the Fan Control 1.0.0.1

CoreTemp shows different temp. to what Fan Control 1.0.0.1 reads...

why those differences? and where is the problem? witch one of them reads the temp. wrong?

  • Depends....

Is it always different or is it just sometimes different?

Also what BIOS do you have installed.

  • i have the 66 BIOS; thanks for the respone on LENOVO Froum; i'll try the Real Temp 3.00

  • I am not sure if thats the latest, but I never updated the program to work with the latest BIOS which could be the problem.

I gave up on the S10. After writing this application I understood why the S10 required the excessive cooling, the unit has a serious design flaw in the cooling system.

My S10 has been sold and now I have a excellent Lenovo T400 :)

  • and what's the flaw exactley? wloud a ASUS 1000H have been a better choice?

  • Well the first generation has a poor cooling system. If you forced the fan off for more than a few minutes when idle then the system will shut down automatically. Now think if you are doing something CPU intensive, then it'll turn off immediately after no CPU fan for justa few seconds.

I believe the newer S10's have this fixed. Although I am not sure how much it is fixed. But i do know the worked on it...

  • I download this util for my S9. Very good.

However, this process run at normal priority, which might have issue if high priority program exists and runs up to 100%. So, could this program raise it own priority?

  • Alright, well that confirms my theory: The S10 NEEDS a new application of thermal grease on all the heatsinks. An Atom running at 60C?! My C2D runs at 30C. Rather than let the CPU get hotter before the fan kicks in, why not keep it cooler to begin with?
