Yep, it's a close translation, and yes again, it's pretty silly, but there's a reason for that. This song makes fun of another crowd of that era, the Jovem Guarda (mid/hiclass people playing silly 50s ye ye ye rock and some bossa nova and with their terribly silly lyrics). Mutantes don't identify theirselves like belonging to Tropicalia crowd, but they are more likely to.

Great song! I like the portuguese version better, even if I dont understand. I love Rita's voice. So warm and sexy. But my all time favorite is 'Le premier bonheur du jour'. All that time I thought Os Mutantes had written a french song and I found out lately it was a Françoise Hardy song. I still like Os Mutantes version better.
