  • This is an excellent example of a very stout street flathead built to the guidelines in the book 335 HP Flathead Ford V-8 Ford Performance Handbook.

  • WWWWWWWOW!

  • My dad use to tell me a story all the time (and idk how true it is but this should speak for the motor) that when he was about 7 or 8 my grandpa decided to sell his old Duece Coupe with a flat head in it (he took the money and used it to buy a 440 six pack cuda this was 1973). My dad said that the guy who ended up buying ask my grandpa if it was reliable. My dad says my grandpa went in the house, got a pistol, shot the block and turned the car on and ask, "Reliable enough for you?"

  • Real Hot Rods don't have valve covers!

  • i always wanted to build a sick flathead and put it in something much newer like even just a fox mustang

  • Why didn't Volkswagen make an opposed flathead? Anyway, I had a Ford flathead and no matter what I did, the pushrods were always getting bent. The rocker arms on flatheads are bulletproof though. Really, a crank only needs 2 main bearings.

That is, the block and 1 piece main cap assembly. Of course the Chevy Volt is not as popular as the Flathead.

  • @seapeddler Push Rods and Rocker arms?!? On a flat head?!? I think not!!! The valves are in the block and there are no push rods and rockers. Rockers and push rods on OHV engines.

  • @GunBroker100 Yes, I know. I was just joshin' ya. But a 1-piece main bearing saddle would keep the flatheads' 3 mains from oscillatin' too much.

  • @seapeddler Oh, My bad, I missed the sarcasm. Odd that, I usually am the one posting the sarcasm. LOL!

True enough on the mains. But, then, when these engine were originally build this sort of mod was never considered. It amazes me they don't fly apart on the first full throttle pass.

  • horspowers easy torque aint think about that... every builder goes buy horses power so u have to put like a 3.92 4.10 4.50 gear just to make it run but torque like me i just put a 3.55 run 12s in a 289 no boost or nitrous

  • @soapyman100

What cam are you running to make gobs of torque on a small 289 with natural aspiration? Cams that make torque tend to decreasing the power band.

  • @2pointwhoa its a custom grind the numbers for my 1.7 rockers and its at .050 .230int. duration .235ext and a 106 dergree lob sep. but that lobe sep. makes my cam come alive hard a 2000 and i shift at 6500 in first then 7000 second then 7000 in 3rd but dont use much third gear and i have full posi granny tires and run 12.89 12.82 but thats the fastest since my tranny brake at 2000 it runs alright its maken currently with that solid flat tappet 362 horses and 378 sumtime 382 ft lbs to the

  • @soapyman100 Rockers on a flattie? What am I hearing or missing?

  • @Robkat3751 not a flattie more like a 66 high nickel cast iron screw in stud rocker arm 289

  • @soapyman100 sounds very hi-Tec.

  • @Robkat3751 you dont even know sunny it soo hi- tech it has sientist goen wat da fuhh hah

  • the rear tires its a crazy car on the street and its wieghs in at 2480 lbs without me and im 175 but i made a run with sum of my max jets and it was a lil rich when i made 380 torque but it was to low of an rpm for me to shift at i make it in the 360 range around 6500 but still need more upgrades and madification to make sum more power and shit load more torque and il be happy if i can get my torque at 400ft lbs at 6500 which is my goal i gotta post a video soon btw its a huge sleeper no slap

  • shift no stickers but the sound of the cam gives it off that theres sumthing under the hood but my heads were ported by a guy at power heads they flow the same as a afr 165 aluminum head so yea casted iron with them flow numbers ina ford yea preety damn good and he balansed my motor too its unreal not any vibration even when its freakin radfical idle but i idle my cam @ 1000nd it sings potato potato potato if you want more info about the motor and drivetrain gear set up let me know hope i helped

  • To be honest, this is the best thing you can do for a flathead, they didn't breathe very well.

  • "1963 Indianapolis 500 Qual., NOVI (Actual Audio!). Great supercharged sounds...with echoes!

  • Love to hear that blower WHINE!!!

  • @welder541 Come over & listen to my wife sometime!

  • @zuzulo56 Thanx but That's O.K. i'll pass. I've gotta listen to my own. Hearing two of them whineing might just put my brain on overload!! and i might blow a head gasket. LOL. Have a good day! :-):-):-)

  • DAMN nice sound of the supercharger!

  • I wouldn't mind stuffing this engine down into a 2010 F150 along with a proper six speed manual.

  • freekin sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • flathead v8 rulez

  • would go just nicelt into my 42 Universal Carrier :)

  • I have to admit, I had you all wrong. my bad. You do some bitchin' work there - and your I8 jallopy is really something else. The I8 Buicks really tore up the track before the Chrysler OHV V8 came about.

  • Dude, lets see you dump 20 grand into a motor & run it at full tilt till it grenades. Your just another punk poser who has never built an engine out of anything but toy legos.

  • omg,, that Motor would be so sweet in an old Roadster,, such a sexy lookin V8

  • The flathead Ford once held the world record for horepower per cubic inch on regular pump gas!!

  • but then again, flatheads have been built to 700 horse on nitro, with those 3 main bearings. no bottom end weakness really.

  • I dont question 300, 48. It's not unusual if you build a flatty right.

  • Yes please!

  • Is 5psi good? Can it take more? Used to #s you get from imports like 15psi & up...

  • @1PATRI0T 5psi doesnt tell alot, it depends on restrictions of flow between the blower and chambers and the valve timing. a standard cam and tiny restricted ports will give you a big number on the boost gauge but a hot blower cam and big open free flowing ports might show much less boost at the gauge but be making more power.

  • Joe abbins flattie puts out slightly more power and he thrashes that thing in a full bodied car running 12s. It can take it.

  • that would sound cool going down the road flatties 4 ever

  • Just wonder how long will it put out that kinda power before she goes pop..I sure hope they reworked the bottom end with a webbing kit...Did you know they made aftermarket OHV heads for the flatty..

  • Yeah, you're right. Flatties had a 3 bearing crank unlike most V8s, which had 5 bearing cranks, so I was thinking the same thing.

  • wow.....out of a flathead...nice!

  • That is one bad Flattie!!! Fantastic job!!
