Bill if you are reading this, Tanya Phillips got those MVP stats off of wikipedia, I posted them on there years ago. People just seem to forget that you are the Best Big Time Canadian goalie we have ever had. You're the Best ever!
One of the best goalie's period. His stats won't support it. Just look at video footage and you will see that he was amazing. He played in a era of the best goal scores ever. Wayne,Mario,Steve Y. He had big game capability. He awards are his legacy. MVP in all three tournaments NHL ,Canada cup, world championship. This will never be broken. One recorded never talked about!!!
By the way he's doing a great job as a goaltending coach with LA.
I don't give a crap about the naysayers on here.Ranford was huge for the Oilers while he was there. He played great and is remembered very fondly by this Oil fan. His play when we won that last Cup was unbelieveable. He was money when it mattered!! I love the guy.
he got hurt after he left edm and his career was never the same after he also changed his style from stand up to butterfly.which was a mistake.very simlar road kirk maclean took.
that cup run in 1990 was amazing best goalie performance i have ever seen.wasnt to shabby in 91 canada cup either.
The only reason Billy's wins weren't as high as Fuhr is because he didn't play with the 80's Oilers. GAA was comparable, so was Save %. Canada Cup MVP, World Championship MVP, Conn Smythe trophy winner, All-Star...was and still is my hockey idol.
Ranford only had a few good years then he was crap. Fuhr resurrected his career in st louis and proved he could still play and adapt to the new nhl, ranford couldnt.
Ranford also didn't get the chance to play with the teams Fuhr did, which made a huge difference. It's a lot easier playing behind the 80's Oilers and the revamped, Doug Gilmour Leafs than it was the Bernie Nichols Oilers...like I said, look at GAA and Save % between the two..nearly identical.
He had also just come over from a horrible team with a reputation for killing Goalies at the time in Tampa Bay...happened to a lot of goalies there, Puppa, Ranford, Burke, etc. It was a different era, nothing more nothing less. And in Detroit, both their goalies crashed...when both goalies are crashing, makes you wonder how well the team around you is playing. Just because a team is stacked doesn't mean they're good. Hence Cujo's failure in Detroit.
By the way, look at Ranford's stats with Washington and Boston..comparable to Fuhr's with St.Louis with the exception of the first half of 1996-97, in which he was playing for a horrible Bruins team. Of course, that would require doing some research and actually knowing the game of hockey.
Just before he was traded to Boston, he was also ranked ahead of Patrick Roy by the Hockey News for a season. If he hadn't been stuck with some horrible teams after the 1990 cup, it would have been a different story.
And yet he was picked to start for them in the playoffs after their starter sucked balls. Fuhr didn't do a lot better with the Flames when he ended his career.
and btw..I'm not saying Fuhr wasn't a great goalie...I love Fuhr, and probably know more about his career than you think. But Billy was my favourite. Just classy on and off the ice, and never got a fair shot after the Oilers broke apart in the 90s.

Randford was my favorite goalie when I was growing up. Him and Grant Fuhr.
