Roller hockey and ice hockey are bottom line hockey but completely different. I play both and I know from experience that starting off in roller hockey and trying to learn ice is very difficult. I dangle in my roller hockey league against very skilled players but on ice my basic puck handling needs work. To each is own. And good for him promoting roller hockey we need the promotion and recognition, its a talented sport and takes skill. People who say its not real hockey are just ignorant.

I could see how you would think that (I did too before meeting him) but he is actually a very nice person who never blows off anyone talking to him, is friendly to all of the kids that look up to him, and works hard to promote our sport.

Dangles doesnt instantly mean NHL skill level. 100's of players have been stars in the AHL with dangles nearly on par with Itan. It takes more to get into the NHL. Which is why this guy was unable to preform well at an ECHL level.

Clearly you have never watched a professional roller hockey game. Yes roller hockey does not have the same physical aspect as ice but there is stil a lot of it there. He plays Ice hockey also and does just as good on it. He passes and gets a lot of assists. This is to show moves and stuff that sometimes aren't even in games.

I have seen pro roller hockey games, even used to play for Jr bullfrogs and Team Final, just hate the "me" attitude. I am not saying roller hockey players are not skilled individuals, they can stickhandle, but there is no fluidity, no teamwork, just long passes and breakaways all day. That is why the games are 10-8...

What makes players like Ovechkin good, is he plays a team game and still pulls of the dangles...

Roller is where its at. Ice isn't any fun unless you can hit. Theres rarely any "dangles" in ice hockey because they've got to keep their head up at all times. I play both roller and ice and at first I liked ice alot more than roller, but i've realized that ice isn't the sport for me because i'm not the dump and chase type.

The moves he does look great, but he has a lot of space and time to do them in roller hockey.

So I'm not sure that the simple argument of roller and ice hockey being two incomparable and different sports is valid.

It would mean that while Chavira struggles to be competitive in pro ice hockey, almost all ice hockey players would find it comparably difficult to pull the moves Chavira (a pure roller hockey star) does, if they took part in a roller hockey game. That I'm not sure about.
