  • Mr. Stinson...I found your clip by accident looking for some clips about Vandercook. I really like it very much...great job!

    Take Care,

    Dave Bishop

    (Matt's Dad)

  • Where's the story about this performance?

  • GO PYTER AND STINSON!!!!

  • hahah, Mr. Pyter is my band conductor :)

i havent actually heard him play just yet

  • he is mine to

  • hells yeah!!!! Go Pyter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh i have. got about 12 mins of footage of him playing flugel on my phone ;)

  • Hah, I'm playing 1st Trombone in this vid.

  • this a good line up of players, im a personal fan of Chris Martin since I know everyone in that family pretty well, but hes also considered one of the best current symphonic trumpets in the nation. There is some serious competition though. Check out his Haydn Concerto if its still on here.

  • I know, but it's very good

  • I am amazed at the accuracy of you all- especially the first trumpet's accuracy and tone (I played 1st in this before and so naturally I'm listening to the 1st tmpt). A near perfect, if not perfect performance. Excellent job!

  • Great job. I am impressed

  • When you're a trumpet player (in high school, at least), you WANT to play this very fast, to show off. But you're right, TectonaRivv, faster isn't always better, and this tempo works just fine for the piece. Anderson himself had a very casual feel to most of his pieces when conducting, and I think these guys nailed it. Well done!

  • GO STINSON! haha [=

  • Go Mr. Stinson

  • GO MR. PYTER

he's one of our band directors

  • I think this was very well done.

  • Purely amazing. -Ethan-

  • (continued from below)

Listen for articulation. Listen for blend and balance. Listen for the subtle little nuances that make it a great performance. But for Pete's sake don't criticize the TEMPO. Do everyone a favor: go buy a music appreciation lesson.

  • A little slow?

    "Faster" doesn't always mean "better."

Listen to any recording of Leroy Anderson conducting this piece. Don't you suppose he conducted it in the tempo he wanted it to be played when he composed it? When he had the Boston Pops play it, he didn't have them play "tempo-de-tear-ass." I mean, I'm sure they could have. It would be like, "Ooh, look at us, we're the Pops, we can play it all fast and what-not."

  • Great! Little slow but very balanced!

  • Woohoo go Pyter!

  • what a cool thing man, to play next to chris martin, the man who took over for bud herseth.

    ridiculous. guy is great

  • Absolutely great! This was my dad's favorite tune. The song was popular on the radio way back when. This was a super performance all the way. Five stars & Favorited!

  • Cool, cool. We played that for our spring concert, me and two others played the trio. It was pretty awesome... sooo... are those guys double tounging... if they are, it sounds really good!

  • the way they played it sounds exactly like our youth orchestra plays it, only they have more trumpets playing.

  • What memories these young performers (and future band directors) will have of performing this classic with the principal trumpet of the CSO! I performed this on stage of the old Arie Crown Theatre at McCormick place before it burned down in the 60's. My memories are still vivid today.

  • I disagree, It wasn't that slow. Loser.

  • listen to the canadian brass quartet dippy and you'll know what im talking about

  • Yeah this is good. no one cracked, no rushing, no mistakes at all. The only thing... it was really slow.

  • They were rushing quite a bit at times.

  • true on the double tonge parts right

  • i went to midwest clinic twice once with a middle school band and once with a highschool orchestra chicago is fun and cold ..... coming from living in houston lol

  • wow compared to my middle schools trumpets

we probably couldnt be accepted into a college level band

our trumpets suck way too much

  • Real good.

  • Nice. Check out my video of a rare performance of the Chicago Sym. performing Bear Down.

  • Wonderful Thank you Leroy.

Regret I never wrote you a letter saying how thankful I am for your compositions, especially Sleigh Ride.

Great performnace, College! Thank you, too.

  • go mike

  • I have played this several times over the years and I feel this is as good a performance as I have ever heard. The execution of the articulations is almost flawless. Also, the intonation and quality of the sound is superb and the use of dynamics very effective. Only thing I would have improved on is the projection of the high C on the final triad. This is easier said than done as the bugle call section leading up to this is quite taxing,

    been there, done that!

  • The balance problem on the last chord was in the THIRD part, not the first part.

  • Really good. Chris Martin is amazing. His former teacher Larry Black is mine!

  • I love that tune, I'm playing it on clarinet in my band, WOW your playing was terrific

  • i thought this group played this piece very well...the only room for im provement it the tempo. i believe the tempo should have been just a little faster. but overall, everything was perfect!!

  • We should all take a minute to recognize Leroy Anderson as the coolest person ever.

    Thanks.

  • This would be a lot better if the conductor/orchestra wasn't rushing the entire piece.

  • wow chris martin.. what an excellent player

  • omg i no trumpets kick butt and so do the first they just kickj harder!!! i been trumpet since i was in 4 th garde and im in 8th i been in marching since 5th i was better than half the high schoolers.. shorter but bewtter

  • yup... this song is fun to play and i'm playing it for my highschool band. i'm 1st trumpet which makes things GREAT!

  • i love the woodwinds in this one =) they sound like they actually tongued the beginning of the note instead of the end of it

as always the trio is great well in this case its a sixtet

  • I was there in this audience sitting up front! This was AMAZING! :D

  • right on!

  • Pretty much just great.

  • haha....i was like why are there 6 players?? it's a trio...:D it's really good though...great job!

  • Alright, good job. Excellent soloists.

  • i like this bugler's performance out of all of the ones currently on youtube.

  • Nice relaxed tempo, beautiful trumpet sounds and orchestra not overbearing. How fun to hear it played well. When played like this, you wish it were a longer piece. Bravo.

  • chris martin is second fromthe right... correct???

  • The player third from the left is Chris' brother Mike, a current senior undergrad at Northwestern.

  • Yes he is. He always plays with the Civic Orchestra.

  • nice flawless

  • 5 players?

  • There were actually six of us. We doubled the parts, as our director wanted three of us students to have a chance to play with them.

  • Aha!!

Thus solves the mystery of "The Case of the extra three players in the trumpet trio known as Bugler's Holiday"
