I had one of these when they first came out. Chipped at 110 MPH. Yeah you did 180 KPH. Big difference. But it is still stupid fast for a truck. I loved mine. I used to eat up camaro's and firebirds in mine. Up to 110MPH at least...hehe

@cheefchin Stiffer valve springs, roller rockers, hardened pushrods, upgraded cam(s), upgraded fuel rail and injectors, dual plane intake manifold, higher compression cylinder heads. You could also consider upgrading the throttle body to a larger diameter one. A good set of long-tube headers is never a bad idea either.

@tucsondog I'm not sure if you knew this or not, but this is a DOHC engine = no pushrods. Roller rockers are another OHV characteristic not known to my engine. You must be more familiar with the American V8's then the OHC engines. While upgraded cams, LT's and the injectors and a tune would all help, the larger throttle body would not because of the variable intake system on this engine.

I got a 2008 NISMO 4x4 Frontier. That thing's fast as hell and feels like a car (aside from the heavier steering). But it's also great offroad, put it in 4 wheel low and it'll crawl over everything!

It's a 6-speed retard, same transmission as the Z car. Why the hell would they have a 4-speed in a modern sports car. He only goes to the 4th gear because he's trying to hit top RPM's and the limiter stops it at 178km, which, if your running all the way threw the gears, just so happens to be at around the end of the 4th gear. If he was crusing at 100km on the freeway he, if he's smart, would use the 6th gear.

Well your Frontier is a different generation then mine is so you have an entirely different engine. You would have the 3.3L V6 whereas I have the 4.0L V6. You can still do basics like CAI, exhaust and tune though and get more power. Are you supercharged or naturally aspirated?

sounds like you cant even get it out of 5th gear before the speed limiter hits in. i had the same problem...smartchips has a programmer called the cortex, you can tweak the air/fluel, rev limiter, and speed limiter. and get another 20+HP...i've hit 210 before i ran out of road

Yah, I'll hit my govenor at 180 at the end of 4th. Superchips is one option, and a custom dyno tune from uprev is another...both get rid of the limiter like you said :)

qhy onli 180?? the engine sounds very strong!! its obvious is a v6 over 3.0 but its very strange for me that it only goes up to 180 or you arent accelerating at the maximum... i have a pickup chevrolet luv 2000 4x4 3.2 v6 and goes over 210 almost 220.

Yup, stock timing chain/ tensioner and belt tensioner. Don't have enough kilometres to have problems with either of them just quite yet.

Well IF my timing chain doesn't have any problems then that's a possibility, but I'd have to get forged pistons and rods which would run me over $1K for a total cost of roughly $6K, and then you're always running the risk of other F/I problems. VK swap may or may not be able to be done for less money, but it is the "safer" option.

Haha, ok perhaps with the speed limiter removed, but as far as I know, all 2nd gen Nissan Frontiers govern at 112mph, which is what I hit here. Mine could also easily do more, certainly hitting 200 km/h. I highly doubt your XE will do that with just 170hp (with your exhaust). Feel free to prove me wrong though, and post up a vid.
