"I am not garbage, I am amendment to be, yes I´m an amendment to be, and I hope they´ll ratify me, ´cause there are lots of flagburners, who have got too much freedom, I wanna make it legal for policeman to beat´em, ´cause there´s limits to our liberties, at least I pray and hope that there are, ´cause those liberal freaks go too far..."
You have to hear him do his bit on the guys in Stan Kenton's band all being depressed people the way he did it at the Money Tree one night back in the late 1980's. Jack is a genius. For all of us who were lucky enough to hear him and know him, unusual guy!
A phantom trumpet player played endlessly. It was like Harry James or Glenn Miller lived there. On Griffin show I found out he was my age and we went to the same hi school at the same time. I never knew him. But OH the sounds from that house linger on to this day
Jack recorded the solo trumpet track on the soundtrack for "The Sandpiper" written my Johnny Mandel, a masterpiece and so difficult to play. Such control and expression, so much beauty. "The Shadow of Your Smile" in countless variations. One of my all time favorite movie scores. I sat in with Jack at the Trident in Sausalito in the 60's. What a treat, what a truly nice guy and gifted musician.
What an awesome voice! I will always have his voice in my mind when I think back to seeing cartoons as a kid. Conjunction Junction what's your function...
I don't think that even Jack has a clue re: the magnitude of his creative gift. The Curtis Counce sessions, his duets with Peggy Lee, on and on--he's an American master, yet on some youtube videos featuring him the audience chatter is louder than his playing (Oscar, Shearing, any number of musicians would have walked). If people don't take his artistry more seriously, Jack should. By letting the public characterize him as a versatile funny man, he's contributing to our sad, moribund culture.
I knew Jack in the 1950's when we used to hang on Hollywod Blvd. at the Jazz clubs Zardis & Jazz City. And the Apt building called Blackburn & down the street a little club where Lennie Bruce worked.
early 1940's Gilmore street, Jacksonville, Fl. Phantom Trumpet played endlessly. It was if Harry James or Miller lived in that house. Found out we went to same Hi school at the same time. I never knew him but oh that Trumpet.....
Listen up, Santa Barbara Jazz Society, UCSB Arts & Lectures, Lobero Theater, and Santa Barbara International Film Festival: This town LOVES Jack, and we need to see this film! Why SBIFF turned it down is a mystery to me...
Mr. Morton is telling me about cocaine. I'm okay with this.

Mr. Sheldon is the subject of the sentence, and what the predicate says he does!

I saw jack last night in Beverly Hills - and his playing was still stellar.
As he spoke, you KNEW he'd had some kind of life. I hope you can get another screening of the movie to happen in LA, I'd love to see it!
