Actually the US constitution is not as secular as alot of people believe 34% of the US constitution is from the bible, john locke who wrote the book called the two thesis of government quotes the bible more than 1500 times and this book was used to write the declaration of independence.

This flew in the face of most European countries at that time & even earlier colonial charters where membership and participation in the state affiliated church was mandatory, or close too it.
