This is because The Bill, can't use the real sirens, they can only use the lights. So the siren is later edited over.

Hence the lights not being on, and the siren tone changing.

I love seeing Kathy Beale in the back of that vehicle...its not really an ambulance its a cross dimentional transport in which stars from other soaps manage to cross into the bill and back again

see the dubbing mistake at 1:04 the radio transmission says 'SIERRA1 FROM SIERRA17 THANK GUY S,WE'RE ON IT.' but there is no sierra 17 tut tut dubbing suite

The first ever Bill car chase I saw. The locations aren't exactly next to one another in real life but a great chase!

There has been a decline in quality with characters & police procedures in The Bill, never ever gets car chases right, police procedures in pursuits, the police passenger has to keep up a very clear running commentary but they never do it in Sun Hill, you really have to continualy tell control where you are going & with a "left left into". I work as a special & I know armed situations there has to be an helicopter. & what really annoys me when they crashed not one officer told the control room

The Met or outside the London area, I know for a fact that if officers find themselves involved in a pursuit involving armed suspects, especially if there are'nt any armed response units involved then the lead commentater would request the chopper for support as the unarmed officers would not be able to approach the suspects. Allowing the chopper to follow at a safe distance. But its just a show, the thing I always get annoyed with is the lack of commentary (realism) with car chases in The Bill

No there doesn't. We all use common sense and and few unarmed officers would approach an armed suspect. Your comment implies that having a chopper is the only way, which is not true.
