Can somebody explain to me how come my Indian friends, Chinese friends and African friends whose children were born and brought up in the U.K. can still fluently speak their parents native language whilst Filipino kids can't?

I think your knife needed some sharpening. It seemed like you had some issues cutting the onion. A sharpened knife is safer than a dull one because you need less pressure to cut.

Here are some useful tips:

*tap the potatoes with a napkin to soak up the excess water. (helps prevent splattering when put in oil)

*when mixing the liquids & spices with the meat, you can also just use the tongs instead of your hands. (cleaner/faster)

*when slicing vegies, it's safer to tuck-in your fingers and thumbs of the hand that's holding the vegetable. Also, slightly slice in a slanted direction away from the hand that's holding the vegetable. (minimizes injury).
