  • I WANT ONE, I WANT ONE!!!

  • simon neil is b e a u tifull!!!!!

  • I want one

  • Wow. Very sexy add. Where can we see the pics?

  • i wan that James Johnston Jazz Bass

  • cool advertisment.... very sexy ;)

  • MUSTARD GAS!

  • as long as its not like my squire ( i recently noticed the pine plywood its made from was still seeping sap when the varnished it) i want james bass so bad!

  • I play high end US made Fender AND lower end squiers and I can honestly say squiers are amazingly rugged and for the price are a great gig worthy piece of kit, bullet proof! :D

  • These guitars are great, I was buying myself a Fender Strat, but the same day I asked if I could just try out the Simon Neil Strat, and It plays really well, and sounds great! So poeple stop hating on Squier! SOme of their Higher end models play better than some Fenders! Also the fact that Biffy Clyro have used these guitars live is also great, which proves they are more than capable of getting the shit beat out of them, night after night. So they are great products, at the fraction of the price

  • @WhoKilledTheNoodle it could be becuase they are more disposable. Not hating on squire though, I had one for years and it was good for the price, and these days nearly all guitars are made in factories by non-artisans anyhow. AT theend of the day, its not the guitar, but what you do with it. And the guitar.lol

  • I tried this today in Guitar Guitar and it's not very good i was disapointed. When i put he 5 way switch into middle possiton i really loved the sound it was putting out but the bridge position was disgraceful, it was too jagged and unconsistant, i've gotten better tones out of a standard starter pack strat and i was playing it through a jcm2000 stack aswell, highly disapointed /:

  • How did you play it at GC when it is only available in Europe?

  • Guitar guitar's in england therefore they had it in

  • Oh my bad, I thought you said Guitar center.

  • Desperate for a fiesta red squier strat here, so if anyone buys this guitar and doesn't like it, consider swapping for my '84 Squier Stratocaster (Black body, Maple neck). Excellent condition, great player. Check it out on my youtube and contact me if interested.

  • dude if you have an '84 strat, you do not want this shit.

  • Okay, I'm all ears, 'why' should I not want this 'shit? :) You own the said shit? :)

    CIAO.

  • maybe you could get it painted up... my mate does it himself and it aint too hard, so it probly wont too expensive

    :)

  • squiers are where its at,i've had mexican and japenese fenders and the bullet strat I just got plays every bit as well.Fit and finish is on a par almost with the japenese models, certainly alot better than my mexican tele which had a number of issues. The squier classic vibe series are fantastic too,I just don't much like the feel of the glossy necks!

Fender don't need marketing, the brand (mex models at least) sell themselves well enough simply because of the decal on the side of the headstock!

  • jackson

  • i must say im very tempted, i had an old 90's epiphone coronet in purple that i sold just because i didnt play it but ive been looking for a new guitar, i mean just something to prat around with nothing too serious as im a bassist really. But all the people slagging down squires clearly you havnt played the japan made squires from the 80's my brother picked one up second hand for £160, fucking beautiful, he prefers it to his mexican that hes modded.

  • I was convinced they used an American Fenders especially by the fat tone of the J-bass I hear on the new album. I'm glad the band are proving that even cheap instruments really can dish out some excellent tones.

  • These squier guitars are based on their own custom shop instruments,

its just for the kids man i would buy a custom shop if i get signed...wouldn't you?

  • They do play vintage and re-issue fenders. The pictures of them using Squier's are purely for advertising. They definatly didn't use them on the new album. I'm not saying they're bad guitars, I really, really want the strat!

  • well I saw them in Brighton and Simon definitely played the Squier as well as the custom shops, and the photo's from the edinburgh show earlier this year they both play them, I've bought the strat and it is AMAZING!

  • Post a video! I wan't to hear it properly!

  • will get a video done as soon as I can!!

  • I own a Squier, two of them, a Bullet Strat and a P-Bass, and in my opinion, if you change the pick ups, they sound just like a normal Fender guitar! Squiers are amazing guitars, just because they're cheap, people assume they suck, play one, and you'll fall in love with it! I love my Squiers! It doesn't matter if you just started, or if your a pro, they are amazing guitars to play, they have the right feel, the right weight, and the right look.

  • The ONLY true test of a guitar is when you sit down and play the damned thing!

It don't matter shit what it says on the headstock, if it works for you and sounds right, then you've found the guitar for the job! No f*cking logo is going to change that fact!

These pricks who talk guitars down on the basis of a brand name don't have a clue. I mean, what works for me, may not work for you. So many subjective issues involved. Guitar selection is personal man! :)

  • @GeoStratocaster

HELL YES. I love you for this comment.

I'm sick of "headstock snobs". I bet that, if you got a Squier and a Fender Strat and switched the logos around, they'd still insist the Fender is best. I got news for you - the headstock logo means fuck all except for who built the damn thing. Judge guitars on the ACTUAL playability and sound, not the headstock name.

I'm going for a Classic Vibe 60's soon, I hope. I've heard they're great Strats for the price :)

  • squiers were built in The US for a very little bit.And the JV squiers are amazing,as well as the CV.

  • u can buy them for £260 quid but its only a squier. is it really going to be that different to a regular squier strat. i have a range of guitars and a huge biffy fan, squiers do still play nice but is it really worth spending that much on just a squier witha biff logo? i still think i want one decisions decisions

  • That Simon Neil needs to have a shave and eat less pies.

  • Comment removed

  • This is just too surreal. I wish they'd done Simon's gun metal strat, or his sunburst one he used to have with no knobs or switches and only two pickups.

  • what song is this?

  • That Golden Rule :)

  • thx :) it's fuckn awesome :D

  • Squier CV's are really good and Biffy are awesome - what a great combo!

  • I miss his original Strat from the Blackened Sky days, with the single pickup and pots removed. Loved that one.

  • Nothing really special about those, the look pretty stock. The best thing Squire ever put out where the Stagemaster Series in the 90's, 24 frets, humbuckers, neck-thru, Floyd Rose and available as a 7-string. I wish they would bring those back.

  • And the JV series (l)

  • sorry,

no offence to squire or biffy clyro, but why would you have a squire when you could have a fender?

  • @666dannyb666

i dont think biffy will use the squiers but the kids who just start out playing cant afford a fender.

  • I love these guys! there music is awesome!

  • hmmm, maybe I should listen to Twitter or something more often as I've never heard of these guys... cool axes though.

  • the type of guys that fender sponsors...

  • Wut?

  • if he pick to use in his records and shows, then i believe.

  • would definitely be interested in a full-blown Fender signature model

and I'm not even that big a fan of Biffy!

but Simon Neil's taste in Strats is awesome

  • That jazzbass looks killer in that color all it needs is a leo bridge and maybe maybe new tuners

  • Cool guitar and bass, they look beautiful, and I bet they sound just as good. I just dont think that taking pictures of a shirtless tatooed guy hugging a guitar will help selling them, but maybe its just me. Hurr

  • WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY? Why does Fender bastardist their artists by giving them shitty squire signature series. Seriously! I wouldn't touch a squire in a million years! I own a Fender American Precision Bass Deluxe, and I wouldn't touch a Made in Mexico. GRRRR FENDER STOP THIS MADNESS!

  • to be fair there are some good squires. i've played the squire classic vibe series and they play better than some of the higher end fenders, but i know what you mean with the signatures, why give them squire when they could just make them fender

  • to help Squier sales, quite obvious.

  • i'd have gone more for the, to make customs more accessible to people, but still i think a custom should be fender, just my opinion though

  • kyral210,

To the contrary, I own a Fender American Standard Stratocaster (Best Guitar Ever) but I have played good Mexican built Fenders and good Squires. They are worth checking out, especially if you don't want to risk injury to your USA Deluxe P-Bass at certain gigs where the asshole count is too high.

    Rock on

    -TC4L

  • I have tried them all out side by side in the shop. I was open minded when buying my bass. After picking up the P Bass Deluxe, I just couldn't touch anything else. The American Standard was close, but nothing else!

  • the mexican "fenders" are really good guitars.. but i agree on the whole squire thing...

  • i personally adore the squiers and the mims. but thats me

  • You're a dumbass, I have a CV 60s Jazz bass, with Custom Shop 60s pickups (they sound better than your thin MIA pickups) and a reissue 60s neck, I can guarentee it could wipe the floor with your precious MIA. nuff said.

  • the main difference between the MIA fenders (basses, atleast) and Squier CV/VM's is the electronics (easily fixable) and the lemon rate. the Squiers are more likely to have faulty components, inferior woods, and major flaws in the finish. due to this, you shouldnt buy a Squier (if you want a professional bass) without seeing/holding it. so no internet squiers!

  • Incorrect partly, I've played a few squier lemons, but I've played more MIM lemons than I've found from the squier line.

The woods count not as much as the hype leads too, just so long as it isn't plywood or a really really inexpenive mulch.

And thus far (working in the bass section of a guitar store) I haven't played a CV jazz I haven't liked.

Also, I've bought a VM fretless from the internet, and was pleasantly surprised with it.

  • And you must also look at pricing. My squier CV was about 340 bucks, with the CS 60s pickups and new hardware, about 300 bucks more. It outperforms any MIA I've played, and costs less than it, and it usually pisses gear snobs off i.e. the "I have a deluxe MIA blah blah, so I wont even lay a look on Squiers" type.

  • Its not being a gear snob. I have had a snoot out in store between allot of basses at all price ranges. The feel, the sound, the playability, the control, the MIA Deluxe wipes the floor with everything I have ever touched.

  • You aren't the only one who builds guitars. I know these facts, My CV 60 was extremely good right off the shelf. I went in the store for a deluxe active and came out with this one instead.

The mods are, just because I like to do mods, and I wanted to take a great bass, and make it even greater, I haven't upgraded much, because much isn't needed.

  • and saying "I'd NEVER touch a squier" IS being a gear snob.

  • Your are pretty right bro... its not all about the hardware... MIA basses and guitars are superb also because of their wood quality... besides being a multilaminated body like the squiers (that kills sustain and tone) but well... overall these are starter instruments we cant complain. In the other hand Epiphone makes very good LP models unlike squier that is shame to fender.

  • You should check out those Classic Vibe guitars, they really are the best thing Squier has done for years! looks like these models are based on them, killer for the money

  • These Squiers aren't multilaminated, in fact most higher end Squiers aren't. They are made of 2-3 pcs of Alder just like more expensive strats. The CV series and artists series are really a cut above the regular Squiers. Do a bit of research on their specs.

  • @erikmilan1987 No, most Squiers produced these days have high quality control and are great products.

  • The difference between a £1k and an £8k guitar is..... the wood......

  • Not to discredit the awesome quality of Fenders, I have one myself (Found a roadworn Jazz whose feel and tone blew me away), but I was replying to the rather crass and idiotic comment that kyral210 had put down.

  • i didnt say MIMs had no lemons, i said MIA's had almost none. so, i guess im correct :P

and i agree, too many people are obsessed with brands. take your fender and your squier to a music store, put electrical tape over the names and ask someone to compare them. after they play them, take off the tape. did it to my friend, he thought my VM j-bass was better than a Fender HW1 j-bass. after he heard the names he started saying, "well, on second thought..."

    i found it hysterical.

  • Yea, I mentioned the MIMs lol oops, you are correct. The main point I was trying to get to was the example you have shown :P

  • I build guitars. Trust me, there is VERY little in common between Fender MIA and Squire, outside the bank account.

  • You would expect MIA to be better than Squiers because they cost a lot more. However I had a late 70's MIA strat ..I've seen similar go for over £1500. It was rubbish. I have a squier affinity strat which I bough off ebay and it has a very nice neck and nice paint finish. I played a MIA precision bass the other day and it was nothing special. I have a jap strat which is nice and a mexican strat which is better quality than my chinese squier but not as nice to play. I like Squiers.

  • That's because it's a '70s strat dude. Look at Fender's history and you'll figure out that they had horrible quality all over at that time. Squiers are pretty nice for mass produced guitars though with their practically bare finished necks and what not.

  • Yes, I know 70's fenders have a poor reputation, but the best guitar I ever played was a late 70's Telecater Deluxe ( big headstock , widre range pickups), straight from the factory, no special attention...brilliant guitar. I've got a squier bullet that has a very unfinished neck, but the affinity strat has a fairly decent finish which doesn't need fiddling with. Maybe different factories finish them differently.

  • well with loving modification like yours has been done it will undoubtedly perform better than a stock instrument that is just picked up off the floor..i'm working on an 80's korean strat myself and i'm worried about the material but like you i'm replacing everything i don't like with something i know will perform. just takes time and loving care of the instrument.

  • Upgrades do make a world of difference. My Epiphone Les Paul (2003 standard) sounds as good as a Gibson Les Paul (2008 Standard). But that is with a shit load of upgrades and love. Im talking about off the shelf guitars here.

  • kyral, small world, i build them too. and a 'high end" squier, has wood on par with the MIA fenders. craftsmenship isnt as good, which leads to an increased lemon rate, but they are definately comparable. the only real diferences are the LR and the electronics.

  • @kyral210

Congratulations on having more money than sense. There's nothing worse than a shitty player on an expensive instrument.

Obviously these guitars exist for people who cannot afford an American instrument, but nonetheless want the best instrument for their budget. Remember, American instruments cost more because Americans are paid higher wages, not because they are necessarily better craftsmen
