FYI, this is a Mercedes W124 500E, which is a limited run, built by Porsche. it is 5L V8 engine, sorry Peugeot fanboys, but the 500e will rape you beloved 406 anytime, all time, everyday all day. it's a fact.

ps the w124 is the most reliable car in the world and that is a fact.

FWD = cheap car

r129/w140/w124 pre-94/g wagon are not known for rust problem at all.

rust problem in mercedes started in 1994 when they begin cutting production costs and changing from oil to water based paint. and thats why the w210's w203's etc are notorious for body rust.

@makaveliguy I know the change of paints caused the rust issue. But rust in 5 years is not what you'd expect in such an expensive car. More than that, Mercedes was reluctant in changing the badly rusted door for a new one under warranty.

A few weeks ago they wanted to charge my father 1000€ for new hydropneumatic shocks. I suspected the problem was a busted sphere and replaced both for 200€ at home. It is fixed now. They weren't honest.

i get your criticism, but you've to understand that in the big picture, in terms of build quality, alot of things went downhill in mercedes cars post-1994. w211 full of electronic problems, w220/w215 airmatic ABC suspension failures and leaks. CDI diesel injector failures etc.

Actually pretty realistic when compared to those ultra-stupid Fast and Furious movies in which ancient 60's musclecars (which didn't even handle well by the standards of the 60's) somehow make good "getaway cars". Even in Bullit they're all over the place in the corners.

Have you ever seen an 3.0 24V V6 406 on road? It could eat the sweet w124. Especially if it get a turbo, there are just a few car which could catch it on the way.  406 is a very good car with strong and good engine. Hwo had one in our life, every time will rememmber for it!!! They are stunning inside and outside as well on the road, after 14 years. PSA rules!!!!

Err what planet are you on the 500E could and does thrash the 406, my mates mum had a 3.0 V6 406 saloon it got beat by a Mercedes E300TD, the E300TD has 175Bhp the 406 V6 has 218Bhp but it still got thrashed, by a less power Mercedes. The 406 V6 has extremely bad understeer also, And the 96 406 interiors are weak and horribly constructed, Think before you type dear ! x
