  • Hey! every time i try to put a new font on photoshop i forget how to do it! i got one from that website you said but i cant figure out how to put it on! i was wondering if you could tell me how?

  • @burpqueen extract the font file to your desktop then go to start, computer, C Drive, Windows and Fonts, copy and paste the filer in there and it will appear in photoshop.

  • What is with these Canadians and photoshop layers?

    Sheeesh - enough already!!!

  • How does he make the background behind the font like that, i can never get it to be that way

  • @hamza0610 Press G and take the gradient tool. Set it to "Radial" (It's on the top, next to where you pick the colours) and draw a line with it from the center to the top of the image. This should do it!

  • @iSyzzle thanks!

  • awesome! but cant follow perfectly, could anyone send me the finished PSD to nova#zekvo.com to let me check where is the problem? Big Thanks!

  • @afNova You'll find the PSD on his site, the first link in the description. :)

  • Would love to see a Metal Border tutorial that shows us how to make borders that look like metal with more depth than just changing the gradient and adding a bevel Something similar to the shutterstock photo of the 4 different borders if you Google images "metal border"

  • Can you make a video explaining the differences between using global lighting and turning it off. In almost all your videos, you turn it off and I've always wondered why you do that. Thanks!

  • @mrmcweird If Global Light is kept on, you have to use the same lighting angle on each Layer Style. When it's off, you can use different angles on different Styles.

  • @IceflowStudios Thanks for the explanation.

  • @mrmcweird go to photoshop...make two text images put drop shadow on one..then put it on the other...try to adjust the drop shadow angle on the second text and you'll see the first one change as well (very frustrating) ..now turn off global lighting and then you will see the difference. Hope this helps...this applies to other layer styles too :)

  • @mrmcweird yeah, global lighting makes it all from the same angle, like if you were setting the angle of the sun.

  • no offense but this wasn't you best tut, final image didnt look good at all

  • @212orgohome I agree it was good at 2:30 then went down hill, although you may feel it was not good at all.

Still appreciate IFS taking time to make this.

  • Happy new tutorial! i mean Year!=)

  • Great video! Quite complicated though for a simple neon glow!

  • what happend to your big project i have been waiting to see that for a cupple of weeks

  • Happy New Year & thank you for putting out videos for us!

  • Thats a cool effect great tutorial.

  • thanks for constantly pumping out these videos, they're really helping me learn photoshop in a fun way that I can show my friends & family!

  • The free font CNN is really good for this! Good tut btw

  • Hey there! I was wondering if you could give a tutorial on color codes and layers and what they do. In your tutorials you go about things like choosing layers and selecting colors like we all know how to do it.. But you really don't go into detail about WHY you make that decision. For instance, I know that the value #ffffff is white, but if I wanted a blue, well I don't even know where to begin, and I find color codes useful for certain things. The same for layer styles.

    Can you help perhaps?

  • @BoyOfLol Instead you can use the popup and just pick any colour you like? :)

  • 3:48

"And finally, we need to- ... ... ...-Glow. Let's add an outer glow."

    o_O What happened there?

  • @123IOWNALL321

Jump cut. My guess is he messed up his lines too much and redid it.

  • font sounds funny...

  • hey im just wondering how did u do those circles in the background that are like fading away thanks love your tuts :D

  • to change the colors better turn the layer into a shape then raterize it then adjust the hue and saturation and wala new color

  • Just a tip to everyone: There's a really nice font called "Kabel" that would go perfectly with this tutorial. It's not an actual font file but you should be able to find the .ai/psd of it as a free download. Saw it on Behance the other day. Thanks for the tutorial Iceflow!

  • @foldoun This is the font: behance [dot] net/gallery/The-Kabel-Font-free/1912005

  • @foldoun Awesome, thanks!

  • hey , can you do a tutorial on how to make the L.A. Noire neon sign .

  • in fact when doing neon effects its better to make the letters join up.. if not, then use one letter and a glow / bevel and copy paste the same layer attribute to each letter :) .. I hope this helps.

  • @styzor I know what neon text looks like. Again, I wasn't aiming for the 'traditional' neon sign effect. I appreciate the tips, but if people wanted the 'traditional' neon sign look, there are hundreds to tutorials that show just that.

  • @IceflowStudios Hello, Long time subscriber here :). I was wondering, Do you think you could make a guide to creating an abstract/new-aged Bio layout for a website? It would greatly help me. :)

  • @IceflowStudios No i agree it was my mistake, i just wanted maybe to give some more advance tips, i liked this vid, be for anyone bashes me lol.. :)

  • @styzor You're incredibly rude, don't you see that? Coming onto this very well made and perfectly simple video and pushing your arrogance all over the place with 'this is the right way to do this' and 'here's a tip'. Why don't you think for a second and have a look at his other videos. They're all simple and quick videos - if he wanted to do a 30 minute in-depth tutorial that adhered to your 'standards' then he quite easily could. Take your arrogance elsewhere. Great video as always.

  • @xAdventFilms For one i did not dislike the movie that was made.. and yes i did use the wrong word AND corrected my self for doing so.. I mearly wanted to help others in how to get "another effect" using another way.. as i pointed out to the kind person who spent his time to show you a way how to do neon..

im not arrogant.. if that was the case i would call him a dumb ass, act like a troll and down his vid.. and i did not..

So be for you try and bash me for trying.. read in full context.

  • good tutorial thank you

  • I did not dislike the film btw :) just saying!! i just want to show there are other effects you can do that show neon a lot better.. cheers

  • @styzor seriously, you should keep quiet. why dont you do your own tutorials since you can do so such better.

  • @styzor There's a RIGHT way to do it? I didn't know there was only ONE way to do something.

  • @IceflowStudios Well yes, I can agree there are indeed many ways to get this "effect" but if you look close at the layers, you will see no shadow highlights or indeed "glow" of a neon light.. I use this effect alot in 3d apps and is indeed a pain to get correct, in photoshop, it does need alot of layers and thinking in order to make it seem like the "sign" that is glowing is "the text" and not just some layer effect.. I was not saying how you did it was "wrong"..

  • @styzor Just that there are more "yes" harder ways of getting more of an effect.. of neon. :)

I hope you dont mind me saying that. i have been doing art for a long time and any youtube help is always good for anyone learning, im still learning tricks after 15 years ;) .

  • @styzor My intension for this 'style' of neon, was to achieve a result using Layer Styles on one layer. I didn't want to create a 20 minute video that contained 15 layers. "Neon" can be interpreted in many ways. This was my interpretation.

  • @IceflowStudios well that is fine, and im sure you meant well and my ego, got the best of me lol, im sorry.. i just like prefection when dealing with things.. ;)

here is one basic tip.. Redo you background that is blue to black , cut the 2nd lay of the text, copy and paste it and give it a shadow.. keep the ratio the same.. not at an angle "or you can use stroke, gives the same effect.. A neon bulb is 3D always remember that.

  • @IceflowStudios Nice!! :D before you upload this tut, i Try and try it, (like you said in the title of your Article) :P but my result was only the first neon design you make :B. Well what to do!! :( but somehow i realize that i have to work only with text layer style, and let me tell you, it's awesome the way you made it.

Thanks for the Tut And Happy New Iceflow Year 2012 !!
