  • marvellous thanks for posting

  • K8 the GR8

  • Wow her voice on this is incredible. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. How dull the musical industry would be with out her. Genius in this field.

  • It's originally from 'The Comic Strip : G.L.C. The Carnage Continues' (1990)

  • As far as I know this was never supposed to be a serious endorsement of Ken Livingstone. It came from a 1980s satirical Comic Strip episode, where "Ken" was an over-the-top superman politician.

  • feed the poor eat the rich

  • oh kate, what were you thinking?

  • People dislike this team up of genius? This is one of those rare and priceless moments where legends team up! The comic strip and kate B such witt over such wittless people! GENIUS! Kate 4 Leader! Defo! Fuck Ken and Boris!

  • Hatton? Anyone seen Hatton? ............... He's at Stringfellows.

  • Just saw "The Strike," and the episode this is from. Have now decided those episodes of "The Comic Strip Presents" are works of genius. And it's Kate Bush! Great OTT song from a great OTT satire!

  • 'Twas a great and rare thing, the Comic Strip on the abolition of the GLC. Unfortunately it happened in real life, and the consequences are still with us.

A garden near where I live that was created by the GLC then became property of the London Residuary Board, a shadowy quango that sold off the assets, including this small bit of greenery in a harsh environment. It has now been disposed of by the council, Wandsworth, Thatcher's favourite. It will be a four storey block of private flats.

  • I think they'd be better off with Robbie Coltrane as mayor. But then, I saw the film. ;D

  • @ailingequation Ha, that's what the bigoted right wing media would want you to think.

  • I can't wait for Ken Livinstone to kick that ridiculous conservative out of mayorship of London. Long live Red Ken.

  • ken!

  • THE COMIC STRIP rock....I just watched it tonight...I always loved Peter Richardson/Lee Van Cleef/Tony Benn..."Maybe"...most excellent...

  • Can I ask for opinions on who should be Labour leader?

If there were an AV system my card would look like this....

    1: Ed Miliband

    2: Andy Burnham

    3: Diane Abbott

    4:David Miliband

    5:Ed Balls

  • Gooooosh I love her voice :o I love that naanaananananaaaanaaana part :DDD

  • KATE FOR THE LEADER OF THE WORLD ! THEN IT WOULD BE SO MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL PLACE :- )

  • i bloody love this song!!!!! labour all the way!!! kate all the way!!! ken all the way!!!

  • KATE for Leader.

  • Just hear Kate say 'who is a fooking sex machine?' Bliss. I loved her role in Comic Strips Les Dogs too

  • haha! great i love kate bush! i keep thinking of ken the barbie when i hear this though..!

  • Ken the barbie leading the GLC! lol what a cracker!!

  • Great song (and I mean fucking great).....but: have we not learned something (if even just a little) since 1989?....

  • Not so keen on the song but... vote Ken i DEFINATELY agree with!

  • Just want to add - it's not really bout the political anymore , just enjoying a fabulous song sung by a great woman!. Apparently Kate turned 50 the other day , my friend who is a huge fan chose to let me know at a illegal time in the morning - Damn she don't half look good on it !!!

  • This is an awesome song! I love you for putting this up on youtube!

Who's the man we all need?

    Who's the throbbing sex machine?

Its some of her best work....

Oh yeh and PS don't let people use this page as a basis for political discussion. Just love the song!

  • Well... To tell you the truth, I originally put this up as a way of both supporting Ken for London Mayor in 2008, and giving this rare song an outlet on the Tube, so both political and KB fan discussion is encouraged.

Thanks for your support! I really do appreciate it!

  • Would just like to say - thanks sooooo much , have been looking for the full version of this song for ages. My fav ever episode of Comic Strip- classic.

Also can i just say - Boris really people? I moved out of London 18 months ago and still can't believe that a racist, homophobic philanderer who cant even comb his own hair has been elected the mayor, whatever you think of Ken. Seriously people ????????

Still thsnks for one of Kate's best.

  • Hey, great! Glad your search is over.

And I tell you, the people of London won't put up with another four years of him. I'm sure he'll be out after then. I mean, two top resignations only two months in? His boat's sinking already.

    Cheers!

  • What year is this from ? I know it was a b-side but can't remember which of her singles.

  • 1990, Love and Anger :-)

  • Thanks 053bss .

  • Hey, don't mention it!

  • Well, Ken lost... I would like to thank everyone who gave comments, it's been interesting to hear from voters from across the democratic spectrum. And also thanks to all you Kate Bush fans out there! Just goes to show there are still people who appreciate good music.

  • Ken IS the leader of the GLC!

What more do you need to say?

  • im voting for boris as im sick of this nanny state we have under labour .cant smoke in bars cctv everywhere new 20mph zones . clo

imate change is a tax nothing else

  • Oh, we live in a 'Nanny State', do we? I take it that you would also favour a loose bundle of American corporations to take over the NHS, that's what that sick Tory proposes. The man has to be stopped, he is more than a waddling Blonde top-hatted fool, he is a very dangerous man and will bring pollution, gridlock and ruin to London's streets. No matter what your views are on climate change, you cannot risk harming public health. Continued...

  • And don't get me started on his borderline racist views on social cohesion. Vote for ANYONE but Him. Seriously, staying in is better than putting your X next to that nasty piece of...

  • inclined to agree. i'm not 100% in ken's corner but he's gonna get my vote as he's the best that's on the table. let him run for one more term i say.

  • Thanks for your support, don't forget to vote on the day. Time to put the Tories in their place again.

  • ken didn't sanction no smoking in bars. if you live in london you can see how dangerous the streets are so as much as i don't like seeing cctv everyhwhere....this is the climate we live.

  • Defo vote for Ken, Boris Johnson is crazy, it just his money that has got him where he is, we need someone with real ideas and a real desire to do the job!!!

  • Right, I think it's ironic that the Conservative candidate (I'm refusing to call him by his given name) says he stands for change, yet his proposals as mayor will bring London back to the days of waste, pollution and rampant congestion. Unlike Ken, he doesn't want the job to help working Londoners, he only wants it to impress himself, his waddling , say-anything top-hatted prat of a leader, and his crypto-racist, class-ridden capitalist buds in the City and in the Tory party respectively. cont >

  • Agree, Ken makes London accessible to everyone, rich, poor, black, white anyone... GO KEN!

  • Hooray! It make me sad that I'm not a Londoner and can't vote for him, but I'm sure that the 'funky sex machine' will win in May. Also, I think it's important for Labour voters to give their second preferences to Green candidate Sian Berry, really put the squeeze on the BNP and UKIP, as well as the Tories!

  • Also, you like the song? Very rare, took me the whole of the Christmas hols to find it!

  • Love the song, love anything Kate Bush, she is a legend!

  • True, how can anyone not be a fan of Kate Bush!

  • Another 4 years of RED KEN?

    No Thank You.

  • Anything's better than less than three seconds of that TORY TWIT Johnson and his horde of elitist spin doctors. I smell a long brown stream of corruption and sex scandals deflecting the important issues, day in day out if he gets in. He is not to be trusted with the keys to the public bogs in Piccadilly Circus, let alone the keys to City Hall.

  • Oh this is quality thank you for posting.

  • On a lighter note. The music is great. I'm a fan of Kate Bush.

  • Oh great! I'm glad we can agree on something, she's a bloody musical genius, thanks ;-)

  • Ken Livingstone is a fool and should not be mayor. But that said Boris Johnson is a much bigger one. I just wish there were credible candidates for the post.

  • If it's foolish to want to protect London's green belt as well as it's green spaces, then yes, Ken is a right fool. If it's foolish to have under 18s and the elderly ride the buses for free than he is, a simple minded fool. If it's foolish to suggest that everyone should have a roof over their head, Ken is a raving maniac!

  • Uh-oh. Was that a tabloid speech?

Saving the green belt. Making sure the ELDERLY have free rides. I have no problem with that. Who does? I do mind 16-17yr olds having free rides. Crime has risen on the buses with this introduction amongst the, you guessed it, under 18s virtually at the same time. My father and brother are bus drivers. They bring home compiled statistics from the bus company confirming it. Not saying there were no problems before but under Ken it has DRAMATICALLY increased.

  • The above was no way a blanket statement for all 16-17years old. There are other issues that concern me that I don't agree with the direction Ken has or is going to take. Like I said before about credible candidates. Old man Ken can virtually run unopposed. For people, Ken is more the devil they know.

  • That's your opinion, after all: we live in a democracy.

What do you think of the song, that is, if you forgot it's about Ken?

  • Personally, I think crime's got more to do with the general post-Thatcherite culture we live in: nobody cares about anyone else anymore.

From what you're saying, I guess that you would support all yobs being locked up away from society, but correct me if I'm wrong. That tactic has proven to be wasteful and unreliable, it just harbours criminal minds in a single confined space. I think there should be more rehabilitation for offenders, such as youth clubs and suchlike. Give em something to do!

  • Oh c'mon. Whenever a liberal of any political persuasion mentions solutions to youth/race crime they always think throwing leisure/recreational centres at the problem is an answer. Its a LAZY option that probably worked to a certain extent in areas like Brixton in the early 80's but people are a bit more wise to it now and it doesn't go far enough in addressing problems of youth crime.

  • From what you've said I guess these yob criminals should be severely punished with a slap on the wrist followed by a round of tutting and finger wagging. "But do correct me if I'm wrong." Whats you're idea of rehabilitation of these yobs?? Each yob gets their own cell (room), a playstation and TV in every corner? Compliments of the working tax payer?

  • No I don't agree that they should be treated as princes in their cells, that's totally wrong.

I just think that the sentence should equal the gravity of the crime: Petty crime=Comm. Service; I just think that if you make these little bastards do a service, like tending to flowerbeds and the ilk, they might actually see there's more to life than ripping up bus stops. Cont'd...

  • I didn't mean to sound patronising before, by the way. I apologise, I'm as angry with youth crime as you are. I just feel that we could do more to combat crime than just lock the problem away or bury it under the carpet. Thanks for you thoughts, though.

  • Hey, no problem! We are just having a discussion.

Despite my "venomn" on this subject and crimes of a much more serious nature I don't advocate the death penalty. Even when the case seems 'airtight'. The DNA database that the police holds is growning at an alarming rate and we are going to see in the future how mistakes with DNA and the database can be used lock up innocent people. Be prepared to see new types of miscarriages of justice. Take care of yourself. Nice discussing things with you.

  • All the best to you, too.

  • kate rocks!

  • Ha ha, you're not wrong there, cheers!
