I have read 14 banned books in total. My favorites include, 'Hamlet', 'The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', 'Catcher in the Rye', and 'To Kill a Mocking Bird',
To all those narrow minded people (rather children) who are making statistics and talking about islam and muslims... i want to ask you one question: HAS THE MEDIA INFLUENCED YOU OR IS YOUR OPINION BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE RESEARCHED?!
1. did you read the Qura'an?
2. Did you read Ahadith?
3. DO YOU KNOW WHAT ISLAM IS?!
4. Do you base your statement/opinion based on the censored and made up videos?
@DeathlyDavid Perhaps you should play the assassin's creed series? Judging games through stereotypes doesn't get you anywhere. Most games are educational in some way. Assassin's creed has mini history lessons attached to every point of interest and the story uses real people and events that were around during the Italian renaissance. Other games, such as Far Cry 2, rely on navigation and map reading skills to get around the game world. Many also require very careful planning before playing.
@sockschappercat Well I guess you have a point there but not about 1st person games. They're more action than thinkings. I mean strategy games like Civilization, where you have to raise a country from the stone age to the space age or Napoleon Total War and the rest of the total war series. They start off historical but its what you do that changes history. Total war also has super realistic battle sequences that make you think). Halo, which used to be super popular, doesn't really teach.
@DeathlyDavid Well, military simulators such as ArmA and Operation Flashpoint emphasise tactical thinking and patience, as one well-placed round can kill both the enemy and the player character. Also, one badly placed round can cause the whole enemy military to start hunting them down. "Start game, pull trigger, win" games such as CoD and Halo don't teach much at all though. Having played shooters and fired real weapons, I also know that firing a virtual weapon doesn't affect real weapon skills.
I post this because Katie Couric like so many Americans are ignorant trying to whitewash and Americanize Islam with her Muslim Cosby Show idea. Islam is a very violent religion especially with especially against gays and women. Even 90% of Muslims haven’t read the Qu’ran, possibly because they are forbidden to read.
.
Then you have people like Katie Couric calling informed people bigots because they know the truth. It’s time truth slapped this beyotch upside the head.
Oklahoma voters banned Sharia Law (taking into account any court case which uses Islamic system of Sharia Law) in 2010 by 70%. A Federal judge has placed a temporary injunction on the ballot measure to weigh the constitutionality of the rights of the voters versus the rights of the individual according to CNN. GOOGLE “americanthinker sharia law” and click on the “top ten reasons why sharia is bad for all societies” link to see why this is bad.
2/4 I want to see you talk back the way Clair Huxtable did, and get slapped across the face consistent with [4:34] of the Qu’ran. That Bill Cosby would be such a card! Enlightenment could not be funnier. I also want Bill’s friends to come over and play some Poker, and you disagree with one of Bill’s friends, and Bill will say, “He’s right, his word is worth twice yours, woman!” consistent with [4.11].
Katie, only if you played the Muslim wife version of Clair Huxtable. I want to see you wear a burka during the entire series, because that’s what respectful muslim women do. I want to see lots of scenes where you don’t want sex, and your “Bill Cosby” plows his fields essentially raping you consistent with [2. 223] of the Qu’ran. Damn that’s just slap-stick comedy right there!
Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum states there's between 120,000,000 to 180,000,000 Muslims that support terrorism (militant Islam). Majority don't speak out against it, and it's unknown whether this is due to fear or sympathy.

"We can't take away from their ability to learn to think critically."
And this is the crux of the matter. These parents and organisations that want to ban books don't want their children to think critically. It's too hard to indoctrinate them otherwise.
The biggest bookstore chain in Canada is called Indigo. Indigo owns two other large bookstore chains called Chapters and Coles. In 2001, Indigo's Jewish CEO banned Hitler's book Mein Kampf from being sold in all Indigos, Chapterses, or Coleses citing that it was hateful. I'm curious, what do you think about this? Do you think that a book that hateful should be banned? Do you think that the Jewish CEO had alterior motives? I'm very curious about this. Not sure what to think myself.
@TheNerdyCanuck That book should be fully available to the public. no man has the right to shun another mans words. no matter how fucked those words are. because men speak with the same tongue. We are all imperfect. These books "regardless of prospectives on them" make people better. and that doesn't mean for opinion. It makes people think "hopefully". Books are ideas. they cannot be banned.
@TheNerdyCanuck I think they should sell it. It's not like the mass of people are buying the book to follow and re-create what Hitler did. I think most people wanted to know what was going on in his head. I think if they didn't want people to see it they should just back list it so that it's not sold in the store but you can still order through the company.
Oh she does not mind the government taking away the rights to buy what games i buy. She such a Hypocrite and i bet she does not mind banning books or movies to.
Lets not forget Fahrenheit 451 because they burn the bible in it. Freedom only exists when information is spread freely. Every time they ban a book they kill a bit of our freedom, and the fact that there are people who rally behind banning books for various reasons makes me sick. If you don't like something or if something offends you don't read/listen/watch it, period. But this argument isn't about choice its about control, that is what it has always been about, control info, control freedom
@spankthereasoner@TheOpenMinded12460 I agree, just because, a kid picks up and reads Huckleberry Finn does not mean your kid will become a Klansman. It's like just because a child plays Mortal Kombat or plays Halo, it does not mean they are going to do Domestic Violence nor does it mean, they are going to shoot their school up with fully loaded guns.
I agree Judith. Parents should not expect others to babysit their kids. The world has things what it has. Best to try to make knowledge in our children over ignorance. There is ways at different ages to explain things.
If they're going to ban those sorts of books, why not ban the old testament? It's full of racism, sodomy, murder, greed etc. Like those other books, it's all in what a person chooses to gain from reading it. ie. Personal interpretation is subjective and we can't keep blaming books, CDs and movies for our own problems.
I also forgot child abuse with that part about using a stick to beat children into submission when they want to have free thought and believe what they want to believe, rather than someone else's unsubstantiated beLIEfs.
they don't ban the old testament because it's all about control. Religion helps them with that. And all the reasons she stated why they aare banned is just bullshit. the books are banned cuz they have information that they won't want you to know. The goverment hates good informed people.
I don't think 1984 was listed in that particular video, but the idea of banning books is part of what the book 1984 is about, so I wouldn't be surprised if those same people want "Nineteen-Eighty Four" banned as it acts as a warning about over-censorship and over-control of people.
I'm reading the book at the moment and I'm surprised how many inspired stories came from that one book, such as the movie "Logan's Run".
I can't believe to kill a mocking bird was on the list, it's a classic. It always christians group that front this movement they care more about controlling us than letting us be free to do what we want.
