@Headroom1001 The cameras were mounted securely, we've seen this phenomenon before in other cameras. The vibration from the bike feeds into the camera and affects something that gives it the "jelly" effect. This is noticeable also in the Delkin WingmanHD camera we just reviewed.
@wbwvids I have noticed that this artefact only appears @1080 mode, and that a sturdy fixation of the camera amplifies the engine's vibrations and thus the wobble. For many GoPro motorbike owners this is the main reason to record @720. But with some adjustments, the result can be very smooth and non-nervous in appearence. I've tried various cams from some friends and I'll go for the GoPro2. Same CMOS, better lens and rendering hardware. I'll keep you posted.
Good god the x170 is awful, id advise anyone using a rolling shutter cam not to mount the cam to the bike but the helmet, this eliminates the wobble effect.
Thanks for the video, it helped me make my choice. I went with the X170 because of the lower cost, good video quality and ease of mounting. Plus it didn't look too out of place mounted to my helmet. I'm really happy with the results and the fact that I have less than $175 in the system.
@corvetteman3 With a bit of trial and error and experimenting with camera/mic placement, you should be able to get it to work. Try also taping a piece of open-cell foam over the mic. Someday hopefully the manufacturers will add a remote mic jack to the cameras which could help solve the problem.
The GoPro's wavy movement is caused by the rigid attachment, not by its censor.

@Headroom1001 Good tip, thanks. Check out our Replay XD1080 review also, it's much easier to mount than a GoPro, especially on a helmet!

In the UK its £58 V £229 so the X170 wins for the cost :-)

maybe the Go Pro has a better resolution but I qo with the 170 cause it is hover 120$ cheaper and is still great!

personally i would get the Drift X170 Video Camera but thats because I would use it for paintball and the gopro hd would just be to balky for me

Good point. It's a difficult choice, sometimes the shape of the GoPro works better and sometimes the Drift, so I kept both!

By your own admission it's not a fair test. Go Pro vs ContourHD1080p wouldve been better. Nontheless another great review
