  • the opening phrase is still stuck in my head after 10 yrs of not playing the game..

and im still wondering how to unlock those easy hard and bonus tracks and boats..

my friend and i never unlocked it..

    -_-

  • I don't care what the graphics look like. This game used to be my life.

  • 1 person bbq'd his boats engine.

  • Did it really have the worse graphics?

I remember in the n64 version the volcano smoke effect was missing but the ps1 had it. But the n64 version did look clearer and sharper.

  • I saw a copy for PSX, if it's still at that game shop, it's mine. I forgot how much I liked this game, the best boat racing game I ever played.

  • DAMN THE TORPEDOES!!!

  • @Sibsko21 one of the most beautiful phrases in the game in my opinion

  • I always played this at arcades and once on ps1. GOOD TIMES MANAAWW!

  • R.J.L = Royal Jam Lover

    R.J.L = Ram Jack's Leg

    R.J.L = Ride Jet Lights

  • YOU ARE R.J.L: Remus John Lupin xDDD

  • Ahh the memories... This was a great game, but it also shows how great the XBLA version is. I bought when it came out and still play it which I think is impressive.

It complements the XBLA version's graphics as well. =D

  • The police was funny lol

  • I love this game. it's so badass.

  • I still have this game :D lucky me

  • I wish i knew what they were saying on the load screen :(

  • Life support? Go!

    Oxygen feed? Go!

Ejection System? We have a go!

    Cup holder? Cup Holder Go!

    Turn signals? Signals are go!

    Navigation system? Go!

    Speed gauge? Go!

    8-Track Cassette Player? No-go!

    Radar Uplink? Uplink is go!

By the way, this is the only console port with the loading dialogue. Though the graphics are the worst of all ports, there's much more care put into this port.

  • @elbryan42 thankyou very much! you have resolved one question that has been troubling me since i was about 9 :L

  • the pc version is the best

  • dream cast > ps1

  • I hated thunder park, I had to get my dad to beat it and it took him a long time too.

  • How do you make jump the boat? I didn't know that O.O

  • Throttle down and press boost.

  • @elbryan42 Thanks man. Nice vid!

  • DAMN I MISS THIS GAME!!!!!!!

  • if hydro thunder was real, it would suck to have ur boat break down in the middle of the track while u have to swim your way back...

  • What about ship shortcut on artic circle???

  • I find that it can sometimes take longer going through the tanker, so I stuck to the main path so I could keep an eye on the other boats. Beats being in first, getting out of the shortcut and then finding out you're suddenly in third, and you didn't see it happen! :P

  • i like Miss Behave, Banshee and the UFO i think its called Rad Hazard

  • i love damnthetorpedo to misbehave sucks noobs well for me...

  • How to turbo at the beginning in playstation? tell me please :D

  • It's the same on every version. Throttle down when it says 3, throttle up when it says 2, throttle down when it says 1, and throttle up when it says go. The timing has to be pretty perfect through. :)

  • @elbryan42 yes I just try it and it works. thanks :D

  • You're welcome. :)

  • heres a nother way : try go reverse in the beginning then when it says 3 let go then when its one press the acceration button , you wont have to jump and you'll be in 14 instead of last in the beginning :]

  • @elbryan42 - Throttle down and press boost, together or in sequence?

  • Together.

  • @elbryan42 ok thank you I will make you know the result

  • @elbryan42 Thanks but... Do you need to keep driving to do it?

  • I think so. I don't really jump without the boat moving. Kinda pointless. :P

  • at first i was like 0^0 they made this game for ps1??? then i was all like >.< ill just get a dreamcast.

  • How can this game be on the crappy Playstation 1??? The system is not up to the task!

  • Of course the system can do it.

  • @elbryan42 - You're looking at the same game as me. The PSX can't do it right. The only thing they got right that SEGA didn't is they added some new features.

  • I see no problem with the game. It's plays the best out of all ports of Hydro Thunder. That's what matters. I can't stand it on the N64 or Dreamcast.

  • @elbryan42 - Dreamcast? You can't stand playing it on Dreamcast which is a perfect translation, with brilliant control???

  • Lol at the voices during loading

  • i bet the game with this boat

  • Aslo do I use the booster to do that bunny hop the start of the race?

  • Nope.

  • Nope.

  • Nope.

  • Also I forgot one more question how do you bunny hop at the start of the the race when the announcer says 1,2,3 GO? So post me back as soon as possible thanks.

  • In this order:

Press throttle down right after the announcer starts saying "three"

Press throttle up right after the announcer starts saying "two"

Press throttle down right after the announcer starts saying "one"

Press throttle up right after the announcer starts saying "Go go go!"

It takes just the right timing. You get a four second boost by just pressing throttle up when the announcer says "go go go". But if you get the timing right all three times you get a nine second boost.

  • Throttle down and press boost.

  • @elbryan42 together or in sequence?

  • @elbryan42 together or in sequence?

  • @elbryan42 together or in sequence?

  • How do you do the bunny hop on hydro thunder on psx. So post me as soon as possible thanks.

  • Throttle down and press your booster.

  • My brother and I loved this game so much, my mother sent a letter to the creator of the game. He sent us a letter and a couple of Hydro thunder t-shirts that we still have. 

  • um...I apologize for the repeat comment.

  • At least this version had the boat start up on the load screen... Idk why others didn't have it.. I thought it was badass.

  • Thunder Park: An okay course, I guess. It's kinda hard because you need to save some of the boost icons.

Lost Island: Interesting course, but it's not my personal favorite. It's a pretty cool course regardless, though.

Arctic Circle: I kind of like this course. It's a nice course to play around.

Easy Track Overall: Not the best type of tracks, but they are a nice way to introduce players to the game's controls.

  • The Easy Boats

Midway: ...It's an alright boat I guess. Not the best choice, in my opinion.

Miss Behave: It's a pretty good boat with decent boost speed, but it's kinda slow if you don't have boost.

Darn the Torpedoes (I don't swear, so I did my best): Probably one of the best boats in the game. I really think this is a very nice boat compared to the others.

Overall: Not a bad set of boats in the beginning.

  • Damn the torpedo!!! lol i miss playing this game 11 years ago... i even put it in my psp 4 years ago...

  • Ace Playstation version, ace n64 version, ace DC version and ace PC version.

  • i used to love this! hydro thunder hurricane out soon!

  • Yeah, I can't wait! :) They better have dual analog controls though, or I'll be pissed.

  • It's just my opinion but "Hydro Thunder Hurricane" doesn't look as fun as the original. Hurricane looks either more slower than it, or hasn't got that powerful feeling the original had (boats chopping through the water). Maybe my mind will change later though, but have a look at the official trailer and see if I'm right/wrong.

  • I love this game. I can't wait for the Xbox 360 version.

  • I just bought the sit down arcade, its badass, I love this game.

  • yo kiero saver como se brinca asi -.-"

  • you are playing semi lol

como le hacen para saltar eh tramposos? yo gane este juego sin ese puto truco ¬¬

  • EIGHT-TRACK CASSET PLAYER?

  • No go!

  • PSX version sucked, N64 version was alright, but the Dreamcast version owned.

  • @gorillazhead The PC version was better. A direct port of the arcade. No menus or bonus crap, you press start and select your track, and the graphics were pure ownage.

  • I don't remember it looking like that o_o

But then again I had a dreamcast.

  • LOL, yeah. The N64 and DC versions looked better, but the controls were the best on the PSX. The ONLY console version of the game with dual analog. Not even the version on Midway Arcade Classics have dual analog. Lame.

  • @elbryan42 I meant the layout looked different. Hehe, this one just doesn't have that Hydro Thunder feel! you know?

  • The PC version was the closest port to the orginal arcade version. Beautiful graphics it has.

  • dude, in my opinion this looks better than the N64 graphics. either way i loved this game. and i just watched a trailer for a new version of this game.

  • O.O i did too!! the new one looks amazing much more track action as well as water effects.... one of my favorite games getting even better

  • Uplink?

  • my dad did that jump move on me all the time

  • i have it for me ps2

  • how u jump like that

  • You reverse throttle and press your booster.

  • its awesome i have it on my psp :D

  • navigation systems... go... speed gage... go!...8 track cassette player... no go!

    hahahahah

  • Lol I never knew he said 8-track cassette player before. After listening more closely, I lol'd really hard at that. :D

  • hey did you know that their's a sequel to hydro thunder called "H2Overdrive"?

  • DAMN THE TORPEDOS! Best Phrase Of A Lifetime

  • ya man

  • Wow... Best. Ps1. Game. Ever. 10/5

  • T.T me again...one more question...where did you get yours? I've been searching for since last week and a lot today and no one has it, some thing on Ebay says they had it but nada...they have nothing in stock (LIARS!!)

  • Me, I got mine from EB Games a few years ago. One of the used games. Don't know if they have any in stock now though.

  • MAN! Usually they'd take a great game and upgrade it but to think they dont hve it more its beyind me. some dude has it on Ebay but Im kinda wondering about it if they even have it for real T.T

  • DUDE!@ Pls tell me, does this version:

    1. Really work on PS2?

    2. Has Arcade mode or even regular for 2 players?

I got hooked on the game at the arcade, I was cheking online but they Midway and PS website really didnt cover anything on the questions I had for the vid. and I REALLY want to buy it T.T thank you!

  • Yes, it works on the PS2. :) And yes, it's two players. The best version, in my opinion, based on gameplay and controls alone.

  • YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good thing I didnt log out yet! Im adding this to my shopping list for tomorrow!! thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!

  • I'd take controls over graphics anyday.

Not spending quarters is even better.

  • yeah but the quarters were woth it

  • You can still find the game in second hand shops pretty easy. EBay is also a great place to look.

  • Looks like a pretty interesting game...

Strange that ive never heard of it before, was this game famous and popular in its time? And what other consoles it was ported to? Good vid btw ;)

  • It was very popular. :) It was in the arcade, then it was ported to the Dreamcast, N64 and PSX.

  • Is there a hope that you sometime will play Wipeout 2097? :D

  • Oh, as far as a sequel goes, look up the upcoming arcade title "H2Overdrive". It's from Hydro Thunder's original creators, and looks absolutely stunning! Watch some videos of it... it's basically Hydro Thunder 2, and looks like it could be one of the year's best racing games (if it's as good as the original Hydro Thunder it will be!). Amazing stuff.

  • SWEET! I found a vid on YouTube and favorited it, if anyone's interested. It better come to an arcade in my city soon. ;)

  • Hydro Thunder's amazing... I like it best on N64 (only home version with a four player mode!), but every version of it is good. It is really, really hard, though. Most recently I played the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 (Gamecube) version, and I think I'm still stuck on The Far East in that one... so hard! I did beat the game on N64 once, but still, it's very hard.

The Bonus tracks are easier than the Hard ones, though, oddly... and the circuit tracks in particular are easy. But overall, brutal!

  • you know what, its been a while since we had a racing game other then cars race.

  • Never expected this elbryan.

  • I gotta get my hands on that.

  • Man I remember this game Midway should of make a proper sequel to this too bad they're currently in the shitter now...
