this is the Thai language that used widely in bangkok and with friend, I think he should learn to say "Krab" which can make the language sounds politely when speaking. He did so well anyway.

I don't listen to what people tell me to say, I listen to what native speakers say and how they say it. People make assumptions about how they (and everyone else) are supposed to talk based on bad information.

The whole point of these videos is to show real language, not the 'krap' you find in textbooks and phrasebooks.

I'm Thai and I agree with Gwindarr on the method of learning Thai (imitation-based learning), or any foreign language for that matter. This is how Thai students learn English when they go overseas as well.

You may think that cutting the "Krab" (no puns intended) might make you sound less polite, but trust me, you'll fit in a lot easier with the locals (esp. the เหนื่อยโคตรๆ thing....โคตรฮาเลย!!).

Its used to intensify something. Its considered to be a bit rude so don't use it with people you don't know.

ex - Its frigign hot! - ร้อน โคตรๆ OR โคตร ร้อน

If I remember correctly the actual word means ancestor. I don't know how it ended up being used like this.

i found the churi churi vid good because of the examples, so other frequently or useful words would be good. e.g. gan, hai, dai. Personally I woudl like to understand hai and dai better, i mean, i understand them fine on their own but often I see them in the middle of a sentance and wonder why they are there.

Otherwise... I like natural speaking stuff you do, so perhaps a chat with a thai friend of yours? Example, pick somea topic and have a little chat for a couple minutes then you explain what you think might be the tricky bits about your conversation.

All good though man, I know it's not the reason you learn but I find it so impressive that it kinda inspires me to keep learning and also keeps my ego in check.

He's saying โคตร ๆ It basically means fuc%en big crocodile. More politely it means: exceedingly; exceptionally; extraordinarily; severely; terribly; uncommonly, etc.

This word is Thai slang of sanskrit origin.

Well, what you do with it will decide if it helps at all. One of the problems with Thai has always been lack of decent resources. What I have been trying to do so far is just have a normal conversation with a little bit of conscious repetition thrown in to give someone learning more chances to catch whats being said in one loop.

I'm also here to show people how to say the things they want to say.

It's still very impressive! I've spent a lot of time around Thai people, and I don't think I would be able to tell the difference.

Well, I'm half Chinese. My father is British and my Mother is Chinese. To be honest, I look more Hispanic. I've got brown hair/eyes and olive skin, but I certainly don't look very oriental.

It is quite funny though, when I'm out with my father and people are talking in Thai about us, but they don't know I can understand, no one has said anything offensive yet!

Hrm. เฉย ๆ - I was saying I didn't have class, I was just going in to work on some stuff.

เฉย ๆ can be indifference towards something among other things. In this vid it means something like "just."
