Ditto. A great review. Having the option to adjust line level gain from 3-8 would have been ideal. I don't see the logic in that than saving production costs.
mm, stability of the usb connection? I've had nightmares with my 8r on late 2008 unibody macbooks. I agree with all you say on the review but that. I'd also like to mention that M-audio's customer support hasn't replied to my complaints in a FULL YEAR so this makes the product useless to me.
There are no driver updates either that should address all these usb inestability issues.
I bought this to, Im very content with it. Especially coming from a behringer BCA2000 wich worked sometimes, and didnt work other tmes. The thing about the behringer was, it only worked with windows xp and cubase (that I know of). Vista wouldned accept it. But with the 8R its the same. I have tryed it on Vista (2 computers) and it wont work. Other then that I agree with the lack of gain on the headhones. But my bandmates mamage sofar so its ok.
i need help please!! dont know what the cable MIDI s/pdfi (the one you screw at the back) is for!! i dont know whats its function...what are the attached cables to it for!?? PLEASE help
Good honest review. I have a FW410 and the headphone levels on this is very low too. I have to put it all the way up to hear myself recording properly. There is also only gain on the instrument and mic channel, but that is allright for me. I don't use the line inputs. To M-audios defence I believe that they designed the fasttrack for studio recording and not live recording. I might be wrong.

Hey man.
Quality review, just a couple questions:
I'm planning on buying this unit for recording, but would i be able to use it for live sound too? like have the signal chain as follows: > Pro tools
Mics > Fast track > -split- > EQ > power amp > speakers
Would I be able to send each mic separately into pro tools for post production? Thanks,
Andy.
