Loved this joint when i first heard it. I thought that this would have been the BIG BREAK for the Monitors. Berry Gordy kept The Monitors in the shadows of Motown like he did the Spinners ( and other great singers)... i am so glad that Atlantic records snatched up The Spinners and gave them the BREAK they DESERVED!
It was the year 1966 of Sept. just started Southwestern high school in Detroit, Mich. Remember a girl named Janet Ware singing this song in school as plane as day! what memories!
1966/67 GREATEST TIMES freshman Beckman Jr. High Gary,Indiana best time of my life leading with this song, along with so many thanks for the posting I still have the 45 .
I love this song. It is so Motown sounding to me. Richard Street's voice is so melodic. I have danced so many times around the house cleaning up. It has such a happy go lucky sound. I know the lyrics say differently, but that's the magic of Motown. Think of the many thousands of people who have danced to "Nothing But Heartaches" by the Supremes. Motown had a way of finding happiness during a sad situation. How did they accomplish this? 3 words...The Funk Brothers!!!
I could not agree with you more. Listening to the Funk Bros brings such a great feeling to me inside I can't describe it. I love listening to the old instrumental tracks from them. I miss Earl and Jamerson words can't even begin to due justice to what that man did for electric bass playing. A legend in his own time. These guys played day and night. They loved the music and it shows how many years later.
