I watch this video at least twice a month. It always amazes me how well you put it together. The timing is absolutely perfect. yes, idgie and ruth are supposed to be lovers. hollywood couldn't handle it at the time (not too much better now), but the book indicates that they were more than friends. plus, the director's commentary explains how the food fight scene was the 'love scene.'

Two different scripts were written for the movie. The man who wrote the script was going the way of Ninny (thats her actually name short for Virginia)being the adult version of Idgie but since Fannie was unhappy with a lot of the script she rewrote some of it, so people still got the feeling of Ninny being Idgie but she is not the same person. Besides, who the hell would have gotten Idgie pregnant? and Why would she get pregnant if she loved Ruth so much?....
