Boortz contends that the goverment created the Mortgage Backed Securities Scam? Is he the biggest idiot on the planet? Did they do it to bankrupt millions of investor around the world to the tune of 10 trillion dollars. Did they do it to bankrupt the largest American banks so that they could then turn around and bail them out? The financial crisis was created by Wall Street to sell bogus MBS around the world. They made a fabulous amount of money and when things turned worse they got bailed out.
Yes, Bob Barr is a former bigwig conservative Republican member of the House. However, he REALIZED the errors of his ways years later and recanted all that support of the War on Terror, the War in Iraq, The Patriot Act, etc. He became much more of an individualist and realized the GOP is bullshit these days. John McCain only admits the GOP's failures on government spending, really. He's a warmonger, through and through. He supports all that other Republican crap.
And, OK, he has sided with so called "conservatives" on a couple of other things too, like illegal immigration, for instance, but based upon my years of listening to his show, I can say that the man is in no way a "conservative", a "right-winger", and is definitely not a "Republican".
He may be a right-leaning libertarian, or even a libertarian-leaning rightist. You must take into account his entire political/social philosophy before you can place his position on the Nolan Political Chart.
Believe me, I have been angered by Boortz many times because he so often talks endlessly about those issues, like Iraq, which would give first-time listeners the impression that he is in bed with Bush and company. I wanted to hear him talk more about marijuana, censorship, gay rights, prostitution, and evolution, but for some reason he spends very little time on those topics!
So, yeah, I can understand why someone would get the wrong idea about his politics based upon 1 or 2 days listening.
And by the way, I haven't been able to listen for quite some time because the trained monkeys in charge of night-time programming at WBT 1110 in Charlotte, NC decided to yank him from his 9 to midnight slot! Nothing against Tara and Wilson and the others who have taken that slot, but why, WBT, would you take a guy off the air with an established audience of over 4 million, many of whom depended on WBT to hear Boortz at night!? Do you know how many listeners you lost by doing that?
You got a point. I am a left-wing progressive that listens to "conservative talk radio" to keep informed of their talking points. What Neal Boortz is is a right leaning Libertarian, but he is not your typical right-wing kook especially on social issues where he is more liberal that most people would think. I live in central North Carolina. It was an outrage when WPTF took his show off the air and replaced it with the despicable Mark Levin.
An actual libertarian shouldn't have to hesitantly confess hes voting for a libertarian. Boortz has always come off as a neocon when I listened to his show, and only a shill could even amuse the possibility of voting for McCain and at the same time call himself a libertarian.
Boortz believes in legal marijuana and ending the drug war, supports abortion rights, supports gay rights/equality, opposes any FCC regulation of television/radio content, believes in legal prostitution, opposed the conservatives/religious fanatics in the Terry Schiavo case, and has even stated that anyone who believes in "creationism" is not smart enough, and should not be allowed to vote.
Yet, because he sided with Bush on one issue, Iraq, somehow he is a "NeoCon"?
I'm glad to see Boortz had a change of heart. I was starting to think he was a closet Republican. I can't see how anyone would support John McCain and call themselves Conservative with a straight face.
boortz was a republican for many many years. he definetly leans on the right side of the libertarian party, well as a bill mahr would be on the left side. the only reason why a conservative would vote mccain would be for the simple fact that it was between obama and mccain and most conservatives would rather have mccain than obama.
First, let me say I'm a Libertarian and I agree Boortz has a tenuous claim to that label. Second, I'm sick of voting for these bozos. Less evil is still evil. Now I face a choice between Saxby and Martin. They both suck for the same reasons.
I'm seriously considering staying home. I don't trust Chambliss to vote against socialized medicine or any other entitlements given his record.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Bob Barr has such an interesting history with the Libertarian Party--they basically never really liked him (ran TV ads against him and had him ousted out of the 7th district) and now you have Liberts that are ALL ABOUT BARR? Give me an f'n break. Barr was a member of the CIA and he voted for the Patriot Act and I don't care if he says it was a mistake. That's bullshit. Nader is the only candidate I trust in '08.
DT: Correction, Nader is a flaming progressive. But you probably don't know the difference between a liberal and a true progressive/leftist, do you? Didn't think so. Nader '08.
I know I don't care. They all lead away from the true republic this once was. They also lead into socialism in their whole philosphy.
so know i don't know, nor do I care. we need someone who is a true conservative and a true man of this country. and Barr is closer to that than Nader will ever be.
Barr voted for the Patriot Act, so that he himself could include the "sunset clauses" which made it temporary. The sunset clauses were added by Barr himself. He didn't want the Patriot Act to be permanent. The only way to add the "sunset clauses" was if he voted for it. I'm not sure if you guys manipulate the story on purpose or if it's just ignorance on the subject. So what if he had different views while a Republican? I used to be a Dem, so I'm not a libertarian either? THAT is bullshit!
Barr on his vote for the Patriot Act from an interview: "I was hoping at the time that it would not be used as a floor but as a ceiling. But it's been a taking-off point for expanded authority in a number of areas."
Beside winning The White House, Libertarian Bob Barr is running for U.S. President for these reasons. He's a patriot! He's the 'leader' of the nation's third largest political party! As he wants to promote his party's belief in smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom, a Presidential election season is an opportune time to do this! In a nation that believes in freedom of choice, he wants American voters to have an additional option to vote for! Vote for a 'real winner' in Bob Barr!!!
I already voted absentee (because I'm going on vacation) for Bob Barr and so did my wife.
We ABSOLUTELY MUST preserve our Constitution from the Republicrat party. The Republicrats are hell-bent on destroying this great nation with these non stop bail outs.
HAHA! This is what makes me laugh is the uneducated public of the USA! I am also voting for Bob, but I also am also not stupid! How is this the Rep. doing when the congress made the bill? And not only that, but the congress is majority Democrats? So the only thing any Republicrats(as u put it) did was Bush signing the Democrats Obama bill of fake Bail outs that was really just a ploy for more votes by the Dim Democrats. So this is just the start of all of Obama and his endless lies!
You're still playing the Republicans vs the Democrats game that I used to play. Sure the Dems are the majority in Congress but they weren't always. The Reps. lose their majority in 2006. Why? Because they left the conservative base. They took a huge step to the left. They ran our deficit out of control long before the Dems got the majority.
Most of them voted for this bail out. Bush and the Reps. pushed the expansion of the CRA which lead to this economic meltdown.
it is kinda silly that Boortz said "voting based on principles is never throwing your vote away." but then he goes on to say "...and the polls can change this, but i'm probably going to vote for Bob Barr." what polls will change his mind if he's "disgusted" with McCain? what happened to voting based on principles? too many people think like that.
it's on the barr website under "media". there will be videos on the left hand side, radio interviews and sound clips on the right. there's just a little bit more to it, not much.
I talked to 15+ random people at a mall the other day, spreading the libertarian msg. 9 of em were libertarains at heart hey just didnt realize it. NOBODY wants bigger government, most just dont think about it.
you MUST vote for Bob Barr, Anyother vote is Throwing your vote away. Unless your Principles are Bigger government. if your a Socialist, then Vote your principles, Obama. if your a free market capitalist vote Barr.
I agree Neal, Obama won't win this election. McCain will loose it then he will blame the media for it. He will have a point, the media was rooting for Obama, but the media always roots for the democrat and that didn't stop 5 of the last 7 presidential elections from going to republicans. McCain is just a crap candidate I can't vote for him, nor can millions of others.
The electoral system is what really makes our system of voting suck. In either 1992 or 1996 Perot got 20% of the popular vote yet received zero electoral votes. Also the voting machines are rigged you can find video and court cases admitting fraud. And even showing ways to change peoples vote with these machines by simply changing the numbers with a back office machine. So any independent canidate has three issues getting in the debates, media black outs and electoral.
That idea, in part, is the reason behind the Bill of Rights. The first ten ammendments to the Constitution were designed to prevent people from giving powers to the officials they elected that would deprive other people of their personal rights and their right to free information (the press). Unfortunately, these ammendments have been circumvented or ignored many times during our history, and not just recently (look up Sedition Acts and John Adams)
America's solution... Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr believes in 'reducing' federal government spending!!! The National Taxpayers Union released a report on September 25th. It analyzes each of the three leading Presidential candidates in their 'first year' federal budget spending proposals if elected. Barack Obama would 'add' $292,954,000,000 to annual spending! John McCain would 'add' $92,437,000,000 to it! Bob Barr would 'cut' $200,928,000,000 from it!!!
If you are voting solely if you hate the "other guy" but don't really care for the "guy" you are voting for, then you are definitely throwing away your vote.
