FOR ALL YOU PANTERA FANS GOOGLE PANTERA INDUCTION PETITION ITS A PETITION TO GET THEM INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME THEY DESERVE IT AND ITS LONG OVER DUE :)> AND THATS A SMILEY FOR DIME I STILL MISS YOU MAN
I am lucky enough to have been there I was only 15 at the time and had to take a day off school, It was fucking awesome, I was one of those people sitting at the back on my god damn ass lol, we were a bunch of 14 15 year olds so wouldn't survive to long at the front, good old days are long gone, Pantera Slayer Soul Fly (playing sepultura) Coal were new then big buzz surrounding them, unlike now the commercial music scene was not saturated with loads of generic Rock metal so this was a massive
@tripletmeista sorry i cant tell if your half joking...he doesnt actually shoot up, he just does the motions. But i agree with you on that, i mean thats a fucking WARNING SIGN lol.
And Vinnie has always had the best snare sounds....check out some live damageplan, his snare blows the roof off. Theres no "extra" snare here or whatever, Dime and Vinnie together are very tricky and play off one another, and sometimes will fool you into thinking there are notes there that are not
There's no extra snare, and the trible-trible bass drum was already there, but they are playing the song at a faster tempo through the bridge and pre chorus and I say that happens when your too drunk. I just compared it to all the other live video and the album for like an hour. Check it out for yourselves.
Why the fuck do you fags all blow your load over Vinnie Paul's double bass, your average deathmetal or grindcore drummer shits all over him. And guys like Flo Mounier and Matt Sanders (cryptopsy/Damaged) make him sound like the one armed guy from def leppard.
@MMZen Def leppard's drummer sounded awesome with one arm dude... see Vinnie can play faster than this, but this sounds better than death metal bands, it has more rythm and the pattern is more complex than it seems. His style of play just goes to show that you can be heavier by sacrificing speed for a more powerful sound.I say this as a dude who abandonned death metal to join the awesome church of Pantera, the only one I'll ever listen to:P so to reply, yes they drum faster, but not better.Cheers
@HoosierMF totally agree fella! Was lucky enough to be in the thick of that set. Absolutely quality day! Dime's still the ultimate! No argument! Complete metal legend!
Vinnie's drumming is savage to all moaners! techinally good but also has variety an soul. Seems to be forgotten that this gig was over a decade ago and these boys were not only techincally impresive but were also showing everyone how it should be done!
was a great day, pantera were great, loved the special guests they had singing the chorus on walk..and that mexican wave that almost had dave ghrol in tears cos it was more popular than his band..how times have changed, man even the food was well priced, noodle stands and pork and apple rolls :)
I gotta be honest, I was cheering when Krusher announced foo fighters and therapy were playing - 2 of my favourite ever bands! Had seen Korn and Limp bizkit the year before at the Villa Leisure centre, Helmet were supporting them, and they were fuckin awesome too!
phil rules man no one can talk to he crowd like he dose! sad that those that never saw pantera wouldnt have the chance to do so me aslo, cos of some fkn selfish waste of space
I was there. Great line up. First time seeing Pantera; they were great. Anyone else remember the mexican wave of litter during the Foos set??!! Sunburnt, stoned and pissed by the time Ozzy came onstage. Happy days!!
@iloveredhotchilis Nah he did change it. He's not doing the straight sixteenths with triplet sixteenth notes pattern, just doing three triplet sixteenth note hits, then four of them, then back to three, then snare. No straight sixteenths.
@iloveredhotchilis What he means is, in the studio version, the bass flows smoothly, while in this he plays double bass patterns with a pause in between, abit like Primal Concrete Sledge.
@iloveredhotchilis the double bass rhythm is different too. Instead of "diga-digida diga-digida diga-digida da," it's "da digida-da digida-da digida-da." This isn't a bad thing though it's good to change things up sometimes otherwise it gets redundant.
@iloveredhotchilis there aren't any extra snares. You're hearing delays from around the venue.
There aren't any extra kicks either.
It's just the camera was picking up loads of reflections from all around the venue. If the sound guys didn't have the speaker arrays at the back delayed accordingly it'd add to the problem too,
@iloveredhotchilis My god guys haha He's playing it way different, no added snare just a completely different bass drum pattern. If you say anything else you are obviously wrong.
@iloveredhotchilis no extra snare hits. Not quite sure how one would even come up with that....he's ain't doin' those double strokes on the kicks though.
@iloveredhotchilis you're clearly not musically inclined. Respect it when there are four other musical people telling you the double-bass is different.
@insightmetal Yeah, that's how I play it, too. But it sounds a little bit better (I noticed) if you play it R RRL. It's really difficult to do.. Props to Vinnie for comin' up with that killer riff!
Look up "Vinnie Paul - Pantera - Becoming double bass", that video is amazing!
@insightmetal He changes doublabass riffs all the time, listen to Fucking Hostile on their live album. Instead of straight foward doublebass he alternates with the tons. He's probably tired, it looks almost just as badass anyway ;)
if this was phoenix/tempe, Blockbuster paviliion... I was there TOO...FUCKING AWESOME SHOW!!..same year as SLayer, Sepultura, Manson, in OzzFest that year...BEST one EVER in MY opinion

Foo Fighters got pelted to shit with mud and garbage and cut their set short. And Sabbath ruled the day. Damn! What an event!
I put 1998 Because this show was played in 98. Not 96 or 97. Yeah pantera did play Ozzfest in 97 but it did not come to England. Where 1996 came from I don't know.
