As a guy I think I would have been too bummed to chase after her like that. It came off a bit staged. Its not about being put on the spot that guy loved that girl and wanted to make a big step into furthering that relationship. His intentions were to share that love with many people, not to put her on the spot or make her say yes. Dont look at it so negatively like he is a jurk, he is a guy who loved some one he had been with for a long time and wanted to show his love by making himself vulnerable to her and to be at her mercy, and she wasnt ready that is all. dont read to much into it.
