And just as a reply to eliminater, in theatre, even though they werent using accents at all, singing with an accent on in broadway singing is often not done because people with accents dont sing with them anyways and it allows for better clarity and diction if you leave the accent out of the singing.
Oooh wonderfull. My voice used to be that good (i'm fifteen as well, but i stopped singing for a long time,) now i just sound mediocre, im doing a production of oliver, but i'm too shy to play the part of nancy....because im too shy to practice except for in the shower. Haha, oh wow, three weeks? When i did this about five years ago we had three months!
Your daughter, at such a young age, has such a wonderful quality. You could see the emotion in her eyes and she felt like such a tragic character.
I actually find it rather interesting that this version of Oliver is set in modern-era America. Just as long as the themes of the novek and fun of the musicla are in tact, it is fine.
that was beautiful! For the junour musical my school is doing that too! I reeeeeeeeeeally want to be Nancy!!!! I'm so glad at your school you all didn't have to put on silly cockney accents!
Amazing voice, especially for 15! Absolutely stunning! How do you American's get those HUGE broadway sounding voices? Am happy having watched this! John (Sydney, Australia)
I am Nancy in my schools production. Tonight we are having a fundraiser and i am singing this accapella in Barnes & Noble. Just learned it yesturday night. Any tips?
Awesome voice!!! Great job. I won't lie though, if you can learn how to do the accent, then that song is a show stopper. I realize you didn't have enough time to learn it. The accent makes Nancy seem more like a poor lowly woman and it makes the song more powerful.
This play was set in modern day America, so no period costumes or Cockney accents. Also, it was done at a musical theater camp. The kids had to learn their lines, blocking and songs and put on a full production in just 3 weeks. There was no time to learn how to do a proper Cockney accent.
that was really good! i've never heard of a production of Oliver set in modern america, and i would love to see the rest of it, if you feel like posting it. i'm auditioning for this part (in the regular version) day after tomorrow and i'm watching every version out there. wish me luck! ^_^"
most of the kids in the production hadn't ever done theatre before and they weren't able to teach the kids the accents in time. I didn't see the production either, but my sister was in it and all of the cast is my friend lol. I know it was wonderful (I couldn't attend, I was on a trip abroad). It just didn't seem like a possibility to teach the accents with the three weeks they had to put on the production. :)
Yeah, though to be fair, there are probably still people like Oliver and Nancy and all the characters living in similar (if not identical) situations to them. For example, as long as they emphasize these people being the poorest of the poor, being forced to steal and kill or die themselves, it is reasonably believable.
OMG bbz ur voice is like WOW! amazing im auditionin for our summer play of oliver im going for nancy! wish me luck (Y) :-D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

@kawillmcc Sounds like "Oliver and Company" :P
But actually that's a cool idea for a theater camp that has such limited time.

She truly does have an amazing voice..
But How the hell can you set Oliver Twist in Modern Day America?
Victorian Cockney Street Urchins..
I'm only 15, and I know that, never the less, shouldn't criticise until you see the production, judging from this performance, it seems brill. (Y).
