I'm against the Protect IP Act as written. If it passes, then it will be more difficult for diabetics to import the natural pork & beef insulin that they need for survival and quality of life. Eli Lilly stated that rDNA synthetic human insulin wouldn't work for some diabetics and rDNA human insulin is the only insulin available in America. Why isn't natural pork & beef insulin protected by the "Orphan Drug Act"? Pork & Beef insulin should be available to American diabetics again.

@Far97d Hey Far! I understand how you feel. I'm a T1 diabetic and my daughter who is 28 has been a T1 since age 4. She is now a medical doctor and planning to specialize in endocrinology. Most importantly she's healthy! Don't let your diabetes stand in the way of anything you want to do.Does it make it harder sometimes? YES. But you CAN do it. Take good care of yourself and anything is possible for you! Good luck.
One more thing... I have been able to keep tight control of my diabetes - A1C has been 6.0 - 6.4 for the past ten years. It's pretty easy to do - a healthy diet, exercise and an active lifestyle. I know for a fact that I am healthier than most people without diabetes.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 9 and have had it now for 20 years. I was always able to keep good control of my disease. About 10 years ago, I lost control and was admitted to the hospital. There I found out about insulin pump therapy. I decided to go on the pump and become more educated about diabetes and its affect on my life. I think it's important for those with diabetes and their families to get educated - it will save lives.

I had a comment on here about pork insulin working best for me. It looks like someone took it off. I had quite a few likes with my original comment. Censorship is a wonderful thing. I am importing pork insulin form Canada and it works great for me. There should be a choice in the insulin we want to take.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on my 13th birthday in 2009, and i gotta say it sucks i used to be a really out-going person but i hardly ever now due to the amount of low sugars i had, about 5 weeks ago i started going on the insulin pump and it actually made a big difference of what i was able to do with my diabetes i can now do a lot of stuff i would never of been able to do on the insulin injections.

Homemade calcium is calcium made from eggshells blended into power. What i do is i put some powder into a tea bag then i pour some lemon into the tea bag causeing it to foam. Then i dip the foamed tea bag into a glass of water and drink. This method is the safest way to take calcium 100 times safer than calcium capsules. If calcium isnt taken safely it forms into a stone and can give you kidney stones and then some.

@Feligatre99 its called a "honeymoon period", i was diagnosed at 13, and for the first month when i started giving myself insulin, my levels were PERFECT. because my pancreas started producing insulin for a little while longer

@Feligatre99 Actually you are quite incorrect. People with type 1 diabetes can in fact still produce some insulin, especially when they are first diagnosed. The autoimmune destruction of the beta cells is not an overly acute mechanism. The pancreas can regenerate, especially for the first few years after onset in some. It usually takes some time a T1DM to lack any endogenous insulin, sometimes never. I'm a T1 diabetic and biochemist. Don't offer info when you have little education.

@deanjean71 I'm not sure where your data is from, but all studies I have read show that rDNA insulin provides faster response times and fewer side effects than PPI (Purified Pork Insuin)
@BelowAverage355 I've had diabetes for 36 years. Pork insulin isn't perfect but works better than Humulin (not human) insulin for me. Humulin hits like a hammer and is gone, no duration. It works too fast and without warnings. There is no consistency with Humulin. You need to do more research. You either don't have diabetes or have it and never used natural insulin. I feel for diabetics who don't know the truth. Humulin is very dangerous. I will never use Humulin insulin again.
Type 2 is for overweight people, they loose weight if they want to. to get rid of the diabetes. and type one has you eating every 2 hours on the clock. and the food is generally full of carbs. no diabetes makes you skinny.

im a type 1. there is chance to stop injection. dun giv up hope guys! i was jus diagnosed wit type 1 and i startin injection. but i stopped last week and start eating oral medications. my doc said it though. the injection make mi hypo for a week. and doc stopped it.

doctor told me I had diabetes after I was in a bad car accident. I broke my neck, arm, jaw, shoulder and had major head trauma. Upon release 28 days later they gave me insulin to inject in my stomach. I did that for two weeks then I said in Jesus name I do not have diabetes. And it was gone. I had symptoms for about 2 more weeks and that was it. God is good.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on my 13th birthday in 2009, and i gotta say it sucks i used to be a really out-going person but i hardly ever now due to the amount of low sugars i had, about 5 weeks ago i started going on the insulin pump and it actually made a big difference of what i was able to do with my diabetes i can now do a lot of stuff i would never of been able to do on the insulin injections.

All you have to do is eat NOTHING but plain no salt white rice

i've experimented on people who have Diabetes and got them to go on with their lives without using insulin anymore. so far I've cured a friends stomach disease. Another person's throat infection and using the same rice diet method i've cured a mans renal failure & his root canal

I also am confused to what you mean by 'Homemade calcium', the term confuses me and it is not something that Dr. Kempner suggested. Homemade calcium is calcium made from eggshells blended into power. What i do is i put some powder into a tea bag then i pour some lemon into the tea bag causeing it to foam. Then i dip the foamed tea bag into a glass of water and drink. This method is the safest way to take calcium 100 times safer than calcium capsules. If calcium isnt taken safely it forms into a stone and can give you kidney stones and then some.

If you stay on an all banana diet eating nothing but banana's and as many as you want in a day for 2 months or longer your diabetes will be cured. The point of the diet is to remove carbohydrates from your diets and the human body doesnt take the carbs from bananas in the same manner of other foods.

@Feligatre99 Actually you are quite incorrect. People with type 1 diabetes can in fact still produce some insulin, especially when they are first diagnosed. The autoimmune destruction of the beta cells is not an overly acute mechanism. The pancreas can regenerate, especially for the first few years after onset in some. It usually takes some time a T1DM to lack any endogenous insulin, sometimes never. I'm a T1 diabetic and biochemist. Don't offer info when you have little education.

@BelowAverage355 I've had diabetes for 36 years. Pork insulin isn't perfect but works better than Humulin (not human) insulin for me. Humulin hits like a hammer and is gone, no duration. It works too fast and without warnings. There is no consistency with Humulin. You need to do more research. You either don't have diabetes or have it and never used natural insulin. I feel for diabetics who don't know the truth. Humulin is very dangerous. I will never use Humulin insulin again.

@RestaWulfie no he won't die unless he doesn't manage his diabetes good. I have type 1 diabetes also and managing it pretty good. if you don't manage it good you can go blind or loose a foot

Im gonna be honest and say that im only eleven and i have had diabetes since i was 4 so ive had it for 7 and a half years. like ado2839 I HATE IT! i dont want to do my blood glucose or insulin but i know i have to. i have to have 5 injections or more a day and no this isnt a sympathy comment or whatever but i just want someone to relate to. it really annoys me but i guess its not good to moan about yourself especially when other people are dying in the world!

im a type 1. there is chance to stop injection. dun giv up hope guys! i was jus diagnosed wit type 1 and i startin injection. but i stopped last week and start eating oral medications. my doc said it though. the injection make mi hypo for a week. and doc stopped it.

@silver776 you should try an insulin pump.I have one and I only have to put a needle in every three days.And i'm 12 and have had diabetes for 9+ years and insulin injections via needle every day sucks.And the insulin pump is by far better.btw i have the animas onetouch ping and its awesome.But still gotta finger prick.

im 13 & over the past couple of months i've had excessive thirst & urination
i also wake up in the night (needing loo) and im kinda worried as type 1 diabetes has effected a few of my family members
i've looked into the symptoms but i havent experienced increased hunger or yeast infections.. should i get it checked out just in case??

I'm 13 and just diagnosed, yeah it sucks but I deal with it. Someday we'll find a cure but until then I'm NOT going to let this slow me down. A little bit longer and we'll all be fine. (:

i am 14 years old and i was diagnosed in last november, i think this can happen to anyone, we didnt call for this to happen so i suggest that we all look after ourselves so we dont produce complications with it and pray that they find the cure in the future.

I'm 15 I'm Type 1 and I've had it for 13 years...I was diagnosed at 2 and it is a very difficult disease to live with it. My blood sugar levels are out of control. I really hope theres a cure. i'm hoping that stem cells show promising results soon :D...Getting sick of living with this disease :/

doctor told me I had diabetes after I was in a bad car accident. I broke my neck, arm, jaw, shoulder and had major head trauma. Upon release 28 days later they gave me insulin to inject in my stomach. I did that for two weeks then I said in Jesus name I do not have diabetes. And it was gone. I had symptoms for about 2 more weeks and that was it. God is good.
