  • Aboriginal-ness, is not a fuckin word..

  • you are HARDLY abo atall.. and thats why you COULD become a lawyer. how many full/half/quater abos do you know how that are laywers? douche

  • @ SirFlibble- People like yourself should stop perpetuating the stolen generations myth. In the past, Aboriginal children were removed for much the same reasons they are removed today- For their own protection. Aboriginal Australians receive more welfare benefits etc... than non Aborigines- Why?? Because they're Aborigines??....Now that's racist!!

  • but kevin rudd didn't say sorry to the Aboriginals that lost their land he said sorry to the "stolen generations", a specific group of Aboriginals. Right?

  • its like native australians are denied the right to work..the getting a job and keeping it debate!!

  • It's not terminology I object to SirFlibble. It's what happened, and the incorrect and unfair racist interpretation of it. I have very sympathy for ALL children who suffered, but I do not approve of racist differentiation between two groups who suffered equally. As for benefits, I didn't ask for any. SOME Aboriginals live far better than a lot of whites. Assistance should be allocated on need not greed or race. I certainly agree oppressed PERSONS should be helped.

  • You have a comprehension problem SirFlibble - scary since you are apparently a lawyer! I said children were taken RIGHTLY OR WRONGLY. It's documented that many children were abused in care - white and black. I agree completely that the system was bad and social workers got it wrong. I just don't like racism. White suffered in the same way.

  • Coutondavis, why don't you ask my husband how it feels. He was one of the stolen children - taken at age 7 from a good home (as he discovered at age 26 when he found his family again). He is WHITE. So were many, many other stolen children. The only difference is he doesn't get subsidised medical, housing, education, and a trillion other special benefits given to ALL Aborigines, stolen or not. His plight isn't even acknowledged.

  • @raineyc51

Aboriginals don't get as many benefits as you want. You may want to read the bridging the gap report Statistically Aboriginals today are still living in third world standards. Dying younger, have less access to medicine and education and are less likely to be employed.

After 200 years of oppression they need every piece of help they can get. Slowly (but no where quick enough) things are turning around, but it wont be evident in our lifetimes.

  • @SirFlibble "Aboriginals today are still living in third world standards"-And why is that? I have watched countless brand new homes handed to Indigenous families only to be reduced to a shithole.

"Dying younger"- Didnt europeans have a drastically lower life expectancy 200 years ago?Doesnt most indigenous people (Inuit, maori,American first people) have a lower life expectancy than Australians?Maybe its because of genetics and lifestyles that determine life expectancy.

  • @SirFlibble "Access to medicine and education"-They have the same access to these as white children. Public schools dont say" sorry your're black,go away" and neither do hospitals. In fact sometimes the assistance they recieve is a lot better than whites would recieve, seen it with my own eyes.

"Less likely to be employed"-Not sure about this one because none of my Indigenous mates have any trouble finding work. But they also went to school so that may be a reason.

  • @SirFlibble that is an unfortunate truth..for one australia is denying the human rights abuse and oppression.

  • @SirFlibble Why is it our responsibility to bridge the gap? Before Australia was settled by Australians, the average life span of an aboriginal was less than it is now, isn't that indicative that we've already helped enough?

Eventually they're going to have to stand on their own two feet because tax payers money isn't going to fix THEIR cultural issues.

  • @SirFlibble Why should they get ANY benefits at all? Giving them benefits is deciding that they're not capable of taking care of themselves. Isn't that insulting to their people?

  • Dear Rude SirFlibble, if you LISTENED to Mr Rudd, he apologised to 'Forgotten Australians' abused in care, with no acknowledgement that many were stolen. He did use the words 'taken from your homes' without acknowledging that the taking was often wrongful. Stolen white children quite rightly object to the discriminatory differentiation and racist approach of calling Aboriginals 'Stolen' and whites 'Forgotten'.

  • @raineyc51

So your concern is the use of the terminology as opposed to what actually happened.

  • No, SirFlibble, it was NOT typically a case of deciding children should be taken from parents and raised as Christians. That may have occurred in isolated instances, but generally Aboriginal children were taken for their own protection because mixed-blood childen were unwanted, or because social workers - rightly or wrongly, and I'm sure many were misguided - thought they were not cared for. White children were taken for the same reason, sometimes rightly and often very wrongly.

  • @raineyc51

Really? My great grandmother was not abused until AFTER she was removed from her family and placed in the care of the state. She was raped and had a child. I love my aunt but she's had to live her life with that.

  • got JESUS ?

  • Stolen or rescued? In 2006, Andrew Bolt asked Robert Manne during an interview, in which Manne said he estimated 25,000 children "stolen" from 1910 to 1970, to name just 10. He failed to do this during the interview. After the interview, Manne still couldnt supply 10 names post 1910 and had to go back much further eventually giving the name "Topsy" and "Dolly". Topsy was "a fatherless 12-year-old with syphilis"

  • @OzisGodscountry Dolly was actually a 13-year-old who was seven months pregnant and working for no wages on a station when she was rescued and sent to missionaries for the care she needed.

Manne tried AGAIN to supply 10 names and AGAIN failed. So after 8 years of "research" to find just 10 names, one of the leading "stolen generation" activists still cannot name just 10 people stolen.

  • @OzisGodscountry I agree that there has been some atrocities against Indigenous Australians but I ask again Stolen or Rescued from the mistreatment of their own people? It still continues today with several reports and studies revealing an epidemic of child abuse in Aboriginal settlements.

  • @OzisGodscountry

Don't cite a racist like Andrew Bolt as a source.. the man has proven time and time again he has an agenda against Aboriginals.

  • @SirFlibble So your're saying these facts were lies?

  • My question to all who rave on about the 'stolen generation' and to the Government and media is 'Why are you being racist? Why don't you recognise the thousands of white stolen children? Because aboriginals were taken ONLY because of their race. Nonsense! The Social Welfare system of the day was flawed. Those who worked in it were either ignorant or heartless. Children were taken wrongly... black AND white. Apology and compensation is due to all who suffered... on equal terms.

  • @raineyc51

Ruddles also apologised for the stolen white kids about a year ago.. perhaps you needed to remove your ass out of your head to have heard it?

  • alot of these people are arrogant racist morons who dont know wat tha hell theyre talking about but i think this video is a very good break down and fairly factual

  • WTF is this shit about? A lot of rambling - if White people had tried to exterminate aboriginals they would have completed it. Some little pockets of murder don't equate to a genocide attempt. Try and keep it factual. I reckon this guy sounds a little gay.

  • @LIVEMeltdown4ROCK It's a stereo type 'white australians' have. Just like how 'all' black people are alcoholics and drug addicts that don't look after their kids.

  • this might help a lot of people, my whole year is doing a study on this.

  • Aboriginalness?

  • @cusack171 hahah... funny.

  • @Bourne732 glad you liked that...lol

  • Excellent points and I totally agree :)

  • I really like what you have to say... Thanks

  • My question to the person who posted this video or anyone who knows.

Did the Government "decide" that these children were not wanted.

Or did the Native mothers "decide" that these children were not wanted.

    Can anyone answer that question?

  • In a nutshell, the Govt decided that the children should be taken away from their parents and raised as christian white people. It was not a question of not being wanted.

  • Then the term "stolen" is probably the most acurate way to describe what happend to those families.

I just spent the past 20 min reading about this after watching a interview on BBC with FPM John Howard.

This is a very sad and sorry situation... If as a human race we do not destroy ourselves before we figure out a way to explore our galaxy. And find ourselves in a similar situation lets pray that we do not repeat history.

    Onelove Vancouver, CA

  • @JahobesDaGreatest Yea mate, they did want their kids with them...

  • This is a beautiful and honest video :)

"One small step for Aboriginals and one giant step for Australians" beautifully put. Absolutely beautiful.

  • all of you; shut the fuck up and stop being so ignorant. im full aussie and i agree with everything he has said. we should have apologised. apologising now does nothing for us, its not our problem because its a completely different government and the apology should have been said long ago. but aust caused a lot of suffering for the aboriginal people. what the government did was cruel + just plain stupid. give this guy a break, he is more intelligent than u and has a right to share his opinion.

  • Dony worry mate you look 1/8th aboriginal to me,

and 7/8 wanker. I bet I know who paid for your law degree. So why arent all Australians born in Australia, indigenous? While you lot want to be something else there will always be problems

  • You're a little hate filled person aren't you? Who paid for my law degree.. that would be me and the $36K I now owe in HECS debts.

  • you are talking from both prospectives.Which is good. my father was stolen from school. He was seven. My nan was sick, and he didnt see her again. When you say that some stolen generations grow to have careers, doen't mean they can't prove any effects. A persons childhood effects their whole life, wether they have a job or not.

  • I totally agree with you! My parents were both stolen but were strong enough to pull through to make sure they had me and my siblings with them always. We were my parents motivation to work hard.

  • Now you sound like an aboriginal protector from way back! You either are or yr not! you sound like a white fella trying to class yrself. You should know better if yr a Lawyer.

  • kevin rudd is a traitor who apologised for nothing.

You are a brainwashed fool mate, try reading the fabrication of aboriginal history.Go on dopey, read it before you go talking rubbish.

You ill informed and i feel a sense of white guilt.

    It didnt happen you idiot.

  • You probably think the holocaust didn't happen either.

  • @SirFlibble I don't think the holocaust happened in the numbers that were initially touted by jewish publications and that were then accepted by mainstream media.

  • @dingodazzler You should feel guilt for your ancestors just as we are sadened and heartfelt for ours....Im Aboriginal SirFibble thanks for this video just wish you can get a bigger crowd. Aboriginals were very happy freindly culture but today its a very sorrowfull culture but we must keep it alive any way art or form.

  • thanks sirflibble

i feel sorry for all those racist people out there who cant recognise what happened, and i think the only way they could is if they were put in the same position, i just wish they wouldnt put on stupid comments that they really know nothing about.

  • get an education then we'll talk like rational humans...

  • so love dis video gotta put it on my myspace n bebo LMAO

  • Thank you for this, SirFibble. Not agressive and well argumented. Helps me to understand the Australian situation from my far away European place.

  • dickhead in this video doesnt look stolen and is not even black looks more like a wog go steal some tax payers money ya lazy dogs

  • dickhead who posted this comment didn't listen to anything that was said.

  • nah don't think he was listening to it thats y i laugh on dat comment of his (pimphomio) LMAO

  • I have a question.

Christian fundamentalist tend to use false science in order to justify Bible.

Circumcision(good for health) is good example. Nazi killed Jew as Christi killer while implementing Eugenics.

    now

Is there any Australian scholors who think Stolen Generation was motivated by Bible?

  • "So now kill everyboy and kill every woman who has had sexual intercourse. but keep alive for yourselves all the girls and the women who are virgins." Number 31:17-18

  • The bible is such a sweet book, isn't it? LOL

  • it may have been in the best intentions back then but it wasn't the right thing to do.. in medieval times they use to bleed people to cure a flu, sure it was in the best intentions but it wasn't the right thing to do.. aboriginals lived with no problem of the land for 10's of thousands of years, it was europeans who brought all that stuff here

  • I think most non aboriginal aussie's feel like they shouldn't be sorry for something they didn't do, hence the 80% against 0n channel 10 poll, but they miss the point, no 1 is asking you to feel bad or give money out of your own pocket. its not about captain cook invading, but the actions of the aus gov. from 1901 onwards...

  • no one is asking to give money out of your own pocket. but it gets taken anyway

  • What do people think about the Channel 10 poll that had over 10 thousand responses. Almost 80% DISAGREED with saying sorry.I watched the sorry speech with 30 people in my profession and none of them agreed with the decision.

The decision to seperate children was made with the best intentions, in some cases it was wrong but for the most they were better off.

Aborigines should count themselves lucky Oz wasnt settled by the Spanish, they would have wiped them out straight away.

  • I think the majority of Australians wouldn't have had a conversation with an aboriginal for most of their lives.

Can you site one source showing how being separated from your mother BECAUSE YOU ARE A HALF CAST makes you better off?

  • Um..yeah. If you were this half cast kid where would u rather live? In the community that will abuse you (in many ways) or the one that will educate you in the ways of the world?

If aboriginal people are so angry at the white man for trying to assimilate them into society then why don't they all fuck off to the bush? Just go, live your lives, all 30 years of them and leave the white fella be, we can certainly do without you, can you do without us? Australia got settled, live with it and move on

  • You know the stolen generation started in 1869.. where do you think they were living? The middle of Sydney?

  • Who were these aborigines in 1869? Let me hazard a guess, had they killed a white fella? Stolen stock? Burnt down a farm? In 1869 the killing of aborigines was still in full swing was it not, so why steal them and send them to homes? Why not just line them up against a wall and shoot them.

If the white mans intention was to see them all dead then they'd all BE dead...but look, the aborigine lives on, because some white folk wanted to help them, and these are the majority of the stolen!

  • No they wanted to bring up the half casts as white. Back then it was all the rage to father a half cast child it seems. The govts at the time (as they were colonies still) decided they didn't want these half white kids growing up as aboriginal. Now you might see that as rescuing.. but it clearly isn't.

Perhaps Hilter was "rescuing" jews from themselves too???

  • No....Hitler wanted to kill all of the Jews

  • bad analogy but it was 5am.

But the point is that you can paint something one way, but doesn't change what it really was.

  • Thats right...

  • so you think it would be fine if aliens come to earth and decided that our whole way of life was wrong and decided to breed us out??? ( lets just assume we could breed with aliens)

  • White 15 yr aussie

    i cried ahahaha so happy

could you watch my sorry day vid?

  • u do make some good points. though I don't think australia as a nation should have 2 pay compensation to ne aboriginal ppl at all notthat are directly affected by the relocated generation

  • only those affected will be compensated. I don't see just any one getting money. You'd need a good reason legally to get it. That being said, and as I've said to a few of my friends.. somethings are more important than money.

  • like wallets, filled with money

  • It's not about the money, it's not about the apology... It's about the recognition. We were denied so much for so long. Now tables are turning and we are now being seen as equal.

  • great vid...yeah...i have to admit...i dont know that much about austrailian history..

  • Brilliant intelligent response! Thanks for bringing some logic to this topic :)

  • the american part of this isn't that neat.

Since the tribes are federal property they're

exempt from local gambling laws. Child stealing

isn't approved of from the indian view no

matter what the excuse used to do it, but at

least they weren't taken to be eaten in OZ.

  • You have made some great points. A few that are new to me.

  • great video mate i am a white australian

and i too was proud and not afraid too say i had a tear or two in my eyes that day.

there seems to be a few people out their

that are angry at the sorry but i feal they are useing the stolen generation as a political tool too bash the rudd labor goverment but they are out numbered by those who agree with the sorry.

  • Brilliant response.
