  • Great car, hope gm produce this car!

  • Nice car, doesn't look very useful though

  • Are guys for real asking why they havent made it? Its god ugly and no one would buy it theres your answer americans cant build cars at all

  • @nealcollins2006 The real answer is that your an ignorant jackass. This car had probaly no practical use, even though it was stylish and i would like to have this car made, but its just a hearstopping monster sedan that probaly would've kicked ass. I actually take the practicallity use statement back because i would imagine that this car would be to expensive to build and purchase. Oh and the U.S. can make cars that are very stylish, rugged, and powerful.

  • When will Cadillac FINALLY build this car?

  • Only the filthy rich could afford such a car so why build it ...

  • Sorry, but this car was "Never Produced" Just another waste of time with a concept car as they never go into production.

  • What the hell I thought Cadillac was going to bring this beautiful beast out

  • Cadillac needs to reassert its regal ... err ... emperor status in the automotive world, fast; and, while the CTS-V rates stellar engineering-wise, its ugly-step-sister looks-carry-anger-n-angst to new levels ... but, too, ushers in a new generation of V-16 road-masters that should rampage soon enough in the minds of mice and men: a proud lineage boosting 6, 8 and 12 as well as august unique 16 cylinders history promotes Cadillac easily to a serene throne ... if it would only re-don its crown!

  • The Sixteen was a showcase of the ability of GM to build the finest car in the world.Had it been earmarked for production, barring the economic turndown,it would have been a very limited production car priced in the six figure range. Recall the 57-60 Eldorado Brougham? It wasn't made for profit but as a "halo" model.Personally I think the Sixteen is visually stunning despite it's elegant simplicity and is immediately recognizable as a Cadillac.Job well done, maybe yet see the light of day.

  • its so sexy thouqh. . .

  • Oh it caught on, GM and Cadillac green-lighted the car some time ago. It was initially intended to be released as a toned-down version with a V8 and optional V12, with the V16 to follow a couple years later. And then the auto industry in America tanked, was bailed out/bought out by the government, and the project was halted. At this point, I don't believe they have any plans to resurrect it, even once they've repaid the government. It's unfortunate, it's a very unique and beautiful car.

  • @schlicky13 You are so full of shit. It was never green lighted. It was never given any other engine. It was a one off coachbuilt concept. Where the fuch did you pull that shit from?

  • @Wideskream A couple separate articles from either Motortrend or Hot Rod magazine. You should read something sometime. I have all the back issues, if I can find it I'll post which issue(s) it was in so others can reference it. I'm not saying it was anywhere near production, and at the time it would have been years before it would have been on the market, but they did have the go ahead to start developing it.

  • @schlicky13 You are wrong my friend, it was never even considered for production. 1 off, Hand built as a publicity model for the direction of the Cadillac brand. It was never EVER intended to be a toned down version with a V8 or V12 with the optional V16 a few years later. It was not affected by the US auto industry "tanking". The project finished as expected. With one built. There is no plans to "resurrect" it because the project is finished. It is a design concept. You are full of shit.

  • @Wideskream Do you work for GM or Cadillac? If not, stop telling me I'm full of shit until you come up with hard evidence that I'm wrong. If you do or have proof, I stand corrected. And you are apparently confused, I am fully aware that it is a one off prototype, but you're telling me a prototype has never been put into production? When I find the articles, I will back up my argument with hard evidence, so unless you have something other than your imbecilic opinion to share, back off.

  • @Wideskream I did a quick google search and found several references to the V12 car that was going to be based off the Cadillac Sixteen. I'll continue to post sources as I find them. But as I originally posted, none of this will come to fruition since it was all canceled when GM went bankrupt. BTW, the Zeta platform it was to be built on was also being considered for the next generation corvette when the current model reaches the end of it's lifespan. But I believe that's also up in the air now.

  • @Wideskream OK, Youtube isn't letting me post links, I may just be doing it wrong. Just google Cadillac Sixteen V12, you'll find copious links detailing the project in depth, and that it was Bob Lutz who was behind it.

  • @Wideskream First printed reference I've found other than the initial debut of the Cadillac Sixteen comes from MotorTrend, May 2005 issue. They had mildly redesigned the body of the Sixteen concept car, and where experimenting with different motors, a V10, V12 and W12. There's also mention of their intention to use the Zeta platform (from Holden, GM's Australia division). At the time of the article, this version had only progressed to full-size clay model but still looks the same as the Sixteen.

  • @Wideskream MotorTrend, August 2005 issue. Article stating that all work on the Zeta platform in the US was put on hold. There short version of the chassis was being considered for several different possible performance Chevy's and Pontiacs. The long chassis version was almost specifically for the Cadillac Sixteen or whatever they would end up calling it, and there is a Holden car that was produced on that chassis at least in small quantities on an assembly line as test mules at that point.

  • @Wideskream MotorTrend, November 2010. The Zeta platform is back on, (news to me). It will be redesigned, strengthened and lightened. A variety of cars will be built on the short version, including if I read it right a Cadillac known as the XTS for the European/Asia markets. And for the long version, Cadillac is working on a premium, Sixteen inspired flagship model. I'll probably continue to research this and post more as I find it, but I only have one question, who's full of shit now? :-D

  • @schlicky13 Youve done your homework, Apologise for saying youre full of shit. Cadillac used this prototype to showcase design & engineering ideas but I maintain that it was never green lighted or even considered for production. If you watch the top gear video, skip to around 3:30 you will see the full story. Every other article & video Ive seen says the same thing. The also talk about the engine, but not in a production Sixteen.

  • @Wideskream I have the seen the Top Gear video (one of my favorite shows), and I think at that point it was still strictly a prototype. Bob Lutz started pushing really hard to get this car into production. As I was reading more stuff, he essentially green-lighted the car himself and was devoting a lot of GM's money and manpower into developing a functional version of it, but the higher ups still hadn't specifically ok'd the project and mostly disagreed with his direction for Cadillac.

  • @schlicky13 I think what youre saying about Lutz "essentially green lighting" the car himself is the shit you are full of. He hadnt worked for GM since 71 & had only been with them for a year when the Sixteen was produced. You are suggesting some sort of internal conflict within GM about whether the company would begin an entirely new product line, costing tens of millions of dollars. Id like to believe this but I cant see that it has any basis in reality. Feel free to prove me wrong.

  • @Wideskream According to wikipedia (I source their info with a grain of salt since it's an open-forum), Lutz was most recently with GM from 2001-2010, as chairman of North American Development, vice-chairman of Global Product Development, and vice-chairman responsible for all creative elements of products and customer relationships (whatever that means). From the May '05 issue of MotorTrend, Lutz was developing a car based on the 16, but GM didn't think it was a good idea to pursue at the time.

  • @schlicky13 So from that, you gathered that he (alone?) began funding & production of the most expensive & luxurious automobile Cadillac has ever produced? You initially said GM & Cadillac green lighted the car but the government intervention halted the project which is not true. Cars with similar engines & design features do & will continue to be produced which is typical of concept cars & the main reason they exist but that does not mean that this outrageous car will be available.

  • @schlicky13 The Zeta platfor may be back on, but that doesnt mean the Sixteen is being produced, It probably means that the drivetrain will be developed to go in a production car, the XTS, not the Sixteen. This is what prototypes are used for, testing ideas. It had four wheel steering, a segmented hood, a Bvlgari clock in the dash & an all glass roof. These are intentionally crazy ideas to try out new things & develop design & engineering details for existing & future products.

  • @Wideskream Some of the ideas were obviously ridiculous, like a Bvlgari clock and I think the they even used silk instead of carpet for the interior. But the rest isn't necessarily crazy. 4-wheel steering has already been used on mass produced cars, specifically the Mitsubishi 3000/Dodge Stealth. Glass roofs are becoming more common and I believe there's even an all glass hardtop convertible out there. As for the split hood, it'd be cool, but unnecessary if they use a V8.

  • @Wideskream I guess one thing I would point out in regards to prototypes and production cars, would be the Mako Shark Corvette concepts. Were the Mako Sharks ever produced? No. Does a 2nd gen Stingray look exactly like a Mako Shark? Yes, mostly. So if they had produced the car the way Bob Lutz wanted, cosmetically anyways it would have been the Sixteen. I suppose it's a gray area either way. Didn't mean to jump on you, but I knew I wasn't nuts when I said this car had a chance to become reality.

  • The description of this vehicle is false. Cadillac never produced this vehicle. It was just a concept. It was VERY popular and still is but it was never available to the public.

  • @Redskyblackdream the concept was produced in 2003...thats what it means

  • @redghost105 That sounds more accurate! Thanx. I like ur nametag btw! Redghost!

  • @Redskyblackdream dude your the first person to ever say you like my nametag...id so give you the most epic highfive ever

    but i dont know you

  • @redghost105 Lmao! Its all good!

  • have people preorder it... and have them make payments as it is being hand built

  • Never caught on? I highly doubt those with ownership would be delighted if GM manufactured this car. There is a reason why Bentley produces cars at such low volumes. The sixteen would be a failure for Cadillac.

  • Failure or not, this car embodies all that is Cadillac - excess of luxury and power. You know there would be buyers for the Sixteen, yet you may be right, the volume would be so low that it would be hard to turn a profit.

  • NEGATIVE

  • dude its impossible to "mass produce"

there arent enough rich people in the world for it to be possible

  • absolutely beautiful my dream car. how much we talkin bout? maybe 3 million custom made

  • this would be one of the coolest cars ever if it was mass produced

  • Yer, just imagine turning up to work in it!, it has like 24 inch rims ricght?

  • They might actually be producing one I emailed GM about it and they replied saying " As it is not traditional to give this information to the general public we have some interesting ideas regarding Cadillac, stay posted with your local dealership as they will be the first to have any information regarding this vehicle" I think they accidently told me they plan on making it ?
