The Tibetan religion and culture were recovered to some degree after the Culture Revolution, but it was under the tight control of the CCP. It saddens me that these tibet protesters resorted to violence. Tibetans have protested many times before this PEACEFULLY and have been beaten and arrested before they could speak. All though they are truly peaceful people, they are constantly being silenced, never getting their word out in the media. However, this outbust of frustration and destruction has given them all the media they wanted, but at what price? On one hand peaceful but dead end protests, on the other attention from the world.

The difference is Americans freaked out after Kent State. They didn't all line up to support the government the way the Chinese are doing. Neil Young wrote a (famous) song about Kent State and no one threw him in jail.

Democracy isn't perfect, but it is the best system we have. For example, Canadians were against going to Iraq. The government listened to the people, because if they didn't they would lose an election. This didn't happen in the US, because of isolation, nationalist sentiment and biased media. That's what I'm against and I see it in China.
My bad. "Their cause" is ethnic nationalism. This is okay until it comes at the expense of others. Ethnic nationalism is at the root of some scary conflicts: Rwanda, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Hitler's European tour, to name a few. I'm not blaming China for all of that, but some of the rhetoric is familiar.

It saddens me that these tibet protesters resorted to violence. Tibetans have protested many times before this PEACEFULLY and have been beaten and arrested before they could speak. All though they are truly peaceful people, they are constantly being silenced, never getting their word out in the media. However, this outbust of frustration and destruction has given them all the media they wanted, but at what price? On one hand peaceful but dead end protests, on the other attention from the world.

Tibet is Tibet, China is China. During the Yuan Dynasty, China was part of the Mongol Empire. So you decide when history starts. There were times in history when Tibet controlled large parts of what now is China. Perhaps we should return to that point in history.

China sells guns to all sorts of murderous regimes: Darfur, Burma, Chad, Zimbabwe to name a few. Maybe you're okay with that. I'm not. I live in a free country and I have every right to express my opinion.
I find your comments on the Tibetans chilling. The Hutus called the Tutsis "cockroaches" before they committed the genocide. That's what I am reminded of. You are dehumanizing an entire race of people and justifying any type of treatment. And you call us racists.

To me the Tibetan people is Chinese, a part of China and you'll fine Tibetan's culture and way of life is very much respected in China. the riot are started by Monks, the DL's henchmen not the ordinary people.

Warycerry: Once again, if you re-read my post, you'll see I'm not accusing Maomikimirai of lying, I was referring to some of the pro-Tibet supporters. The closest I'd come to accusing him, was 'asking' if he was one of them.
Of course I think theres room for China to improve, what I'm angry at is the unjustified attacks on the Chinese people, such the burning of our flag, physically attacking the Chinese, etc; even though most of the 1.3 billion Chinese play no part in the actions of the govt.

Do you hear me calling you a racist? No. And no I did not dismiss all this as racism. That was not the main point of my argument, that was a just another impact, aside from the others that I've already mentioned, of the Pro-Tibet protests on the Chinese people.
Don't try to dismiss my argument by accusing me of playing the racism card.
The "minor scuffles" were the result of ethnic nationalism. What happened in Tibet was not fueled by Chinese nationalism at all, what are you talking about?

He used to own slaves, Laramism is based on caste system! He see himself as a 'God-King', he owns the lives of his subjects! If China were allowed to trade with Iraq like she can now do with these countries, perhaps 100,000 Iraqi children would not have died due to the US sanction and blockade. and perhaps the invasion which killed another 1M would not have happened.

when it comes to Darfur I am simply amazed at how misinformed, brainwashed ppl are! There is a civil WAR in Darfur. If China is to stop buying oil from the legitmate govn ppl say it will stop the govn, ok, but will this stop the Rebel group too? who is by the way supported by the French through Chad! the Western media is particularly disingenous in saying the Sudanese govn kills its own ppl. well yes since the rebel group is technically Sudanese!

Q: I know there is a civil war. The janjaweed militia is supported by the Sudanese government, and the government trades oil for guns with China. Some people question the legitimacy of a government that directly or indirectly kills its own citizens. Whether some are black and some are Arab doesn't matter to those of us who want the killing to stop. I have worked with African refugees, and I am sick of watching grown men cry. That's why I'm doing something about it. Because I can.

The Rebel had recently attacked the capital. ppl died! Ask yourself again WHO is backing the Rebel? From my internet search, Chad backs the rebels and China backs Chad. Hu Jin Tau was over there inspecting troops. France is neutral.
This is a very complicated situation, and it is best for all countries not to sell arms to Africa.
BTW, Cambodians are still killing each other with the arms they got from China in the late 1970s.

We saw Tibetans burning shops, cars. We saw a "photoshoped" CNN photo which half of it was cut due to they don't want to show people how Tibetans were throwing stones at the trucks.
We saw riot police with shield formation protect themselves against rocks.
We also HEAR
"A voice in the background" saying "Chinese riot police opened fire".
But where was the video of it??

Just another totally biased reporting from the West. It is obvious that the police are using their shields to protect themselves from attacking Tibetans. You can see all the rocks thrown at them on the ground. This is "police brutality"??? You think the public is too STUPID to tell??? Also, this report only shows the Chinese police trucks moving in, but has purposefully not shown the throngs of attacking Tibetans to the right.

What about the Kent State shootings (1970)? The protests were no where near as violent as the Lhasa riots.
In fact, some of the ones shot dead were only passers-by who were just watching, not trashing shops, burning cars or throwing rocks like the Tibetans.

The difference is Americans freaked out after Kent State. They didn't all line up to support the government the way the Chinese are doing. Neil Young wrote a (famous) song about Kent State and no one threw him in jail.
The fact that you had to go back nearly 40 years to find an example should tell you something.

China has only just recovered from what use to be an impoverished nation, it has not progressed as far as the US in terms of human rights or whatever.
How do you expect China to adopt all the modern-day values of a developed nation straight away?

The Chinese people are the ones who suffer from these protests when it is not they who control what the govt does. The protesters have burned our flag, attack our people and they're trying to screw the Olympics they're hosting. What more do you need to stir outrage from the Chinese?
The distorted/misleading China-bashing media reports only add fuel to the fire.
Its funny the pro-Tibetans say; a united people is invincible... well they've just united about a billion people against their cause.

You say that China hasn't had as much time as the US to establish democracy, but your society is 5000 years old.

I'm fairly sure the majority of the 1.3billion people in China have absolutely no say in how the situation in Tibet is being handled. But who is being targeted? Who's hard work are they trying to ruin?
Secondly, what is "their cause"? We are united against the exploitation of the Olympics, and the attacks on the Chinese people. (e.g. physical attacks, burning of our flag)
And so what if China doesn't have democracy? Oh yeah, the US has democracy, therefore China should have it too.

Democracy isn't perfect, but it is the best system we have. For example, Canadians were against going to Iraq. The government listened to the people, because if they didn't they would lose an election. This didn't happen in the US, because of isolation, nationalist sentiment and biased media. That's what I'm against and I see it in China.

My bad. "Their cause" is ethnic nationalism. This is okay until it comes at the expense of others. Ethnic nationalism is at the root of some scary conflicts: Rwanda, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Hitler's European tour, to name a few. I'm not blaming China for all of that, but some of the rhetoric is familiar.
I'm not going to repeat everything I have written earlier on this forum. You seem more interested in arguing with me than in listening to what I have to say, anyway. Adios.

I can't quite see how our ethnic nationalism comes at the expense of others, its not like we've tried to start a riot or something, the worst thats happened were a few minor scuffles.
But on the other hand, protests against the Chinese govt have come at the expense of the ordinary Chinese person. And if you have a look at some of the youtube comments, its evident that this has given people an excuse to voice their racist thoughts.
