@alecahauf Oh come on, am I not even alloud to hate a song. I just hate the way he sings, and the song itself, ugh. The comment section for youtube videos isn't only for people who like the song, so deal with it..Play some Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Beck or Billy Joel, then we'll talk. @CbassNL I see you like all the commercial crap then. The lyrics to Sebastian are brilliant to those of us who understand them. I see your comment is hidden as too many people took a negative feeling towards it [need I say anymore] I have a cd of Steely Dan but never play it and probably never will
@alecahauf Oh please, like this song isn't 'commercial crap'. Everybody knows this song. Why are you even trying to offend me. :P Are you so pissed about the fact that I hate your favourite song? Tastes differ, you should know that. I don't give a crap that you don't like Steely Dan, and you should do the same for me hating this song.
@CbassNL Uh, alecahauf is probably not upset you hate it but that you felt the need to come to the video and say so. I don't go posting nasty comments on the videos of artists I don't like, why bother? You say an inflammatory comment expect flames. That's why it's called flaming. I'm not saying he/she was right in their comment but what did you expect? Kisses and thumbs up? Also, I really wouldn't consider this commercial, as much as I wish it was. Why waste time on negativity?
I remember hearing this for the first time in Amsterdam on Radio Veronica when I was 18 years old. A long time ago. What a beautiful song that sounds great today.
I first heard this song when I was 16. I'm now 52. I must have heard a hundred thousand songs since then and I can count the ones that still move me on one hand, there's this and four others.
Only time i saw him was in 1990 on De Panne Beach-festival in Belgium...... a few days after my mom died...... i never forget his sounds at that moment.
Saw an interview with Steve where he said that Cockney Rebel were so much more than "Come Up And See Me" and mentioned Sebastian. Think Cockney were even more eclectic and experimental than Roxy, and were a fantastic band which brought out some great originals like this. Love the way Steve sounds inebriated and uninhibited on this, singing these crazy and weird lyrics with the massed choir and orchestra behind. Have the "Best Of Cockney Rebel" album ~ fantastic!
Believe this clip is from Pinkpop "74..... a festival in The Netherlands. A friend of mine went to this happening, especially for this band. He got so stoned that he fell asleep and missed the gig of Cockney Rebel completely.
@Vanderbracht ..... are you sure ? The surroundings and the atmosphere are very similar to the Netherlands. Also i saw this same clip on Dutch tv... with the actual live recording of the gig. The vocals were awful..... the vocals here are the one from the studio recording.
Utter genius! one of my fave songs ever! Would work well on a soundtrack. Maybe someone could make an equally dramatic short film for this-I can see Marc Warren in it for some reason!
Vanaf nu gezien wel, maar je had het toen moeten beleven. Het was eindeloos! Iedere kroeg op Scheveningen, Rembrandt's Plein of waar dan ook draaide dit. Ik weet het. Ik beleefde het.
I was like what do you all have with cannot stop listening to it ..I meant, it's a nice song, but nothing so special.. and somehow it happened that I was playing it over and over again till I realized I can't stop! ..and now I also think it's a truly amazing piece!!
Brings back memories of before that I was married, living in Voorburg, Holland, late nights at Scheveningen beach, beautiful girls and this song and others like it from that era. Oh, what memories! Thanks for posting. Five stars!
i'm 15 years old and i think this is THE best song ever, much metter than that crap what they cal music now, i wish i was born in the time where music was good;)
