  • Long ago when I was very ignorant and knew nothing, I did not like her voice. However, as I have gotten older, I find her singing sublime! Brava!

  • An Angel indeed, wonderful performance, I can't stop myself from crying while listening to this...

  • she has such a purely stunning voice! Not many opera singers touch my heart like her, she puts such emotion into it and in her body.

  • Al vele versies gehoord, maar zij zingt het als één van de betere sopranen. Prachtig.

  • I saw the TV presentation of this opera. This aria brought the house down - and justifiably.

Her voice 'floats' into my ear; like pure magic.

  • bravo, molto bene

  • Her singing is PERFECTION!

  • Just wonderful :}

  • Bravissimo ! c:

  • 2:45 sent a shiver that went right through me.

  • Wonderful performance!!

  • Belle interprétation, voix superbe.

  • Yummy! Dramatic. Beautiful.

  • This lady provide faultless arias with passion and elegance which can only inspire and give pleasure

  • @tacolength Who?

  • thank you for your comments beautiful

  • All car drivers should play this no more road rage, the human voice at its best

  • Eva Marton y Angela georghiu son la opinion de Dios de que la opera debe continuar

  • This wonderful aria gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything; It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good, just, and beautiful.

  • no words... just... perfect...

  • BRAVO

  • I prefer the ONYX version, which is simply magnificent.

    @Onyx1141 wouldn't you agree?

  • holy crap....this made me cry a little. so breathtakingly beautiful!

  • how does she not move her mouth and everything comes so natural.......its amazing.....brava......

  • Very nice!!! Thank you !!!!!

  • Angela Gheorghiu she is she not Tosca no special effects. I saw her at the Covent Garden and her was not heard from the 5th row

  • This is the first time that an opera actually intrigues me. i dont listen to much of it either but this is beautiful.

  • isn's she great?

  • Beautful.

  • Beside her perfect voice,I like the sensation she creates around her while she is singing and she is also very beautiful and amazing!

  • Niles Crane's Desert Island Disc

  • Outstanding! Thank you AliceBathory00 for uploading this fine recording!

  • Gheorghiu always touches me deeply, in a way maybe only Callas and Corelli have touched me. I just fall for their spinto color. This, here, is pure heart, despite all the impeccable technique involved: phrasing, breath, pitch... What voice! What musician! One totally moving Puccini heroine. Great, great singer.

  • 3 minutes of this seems way longer than 3 minutes of nowadays "music".

  • Wow!

  • bravo!

  • semplicemente divino... sto piangendo dall emozione indescivibile...Amazing

  • EPIC!

  • amazing n so beutiful to all who have love in thier mind

  • She's out of this world... For me, Romania gave us the two best sopranos off all time, Gheorghiu and Zeani.

  • @jelimongi -Certainly two of the very best ever.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't even imagine hearing this in person

  • ...this lovely voice, filled with emotion, striving to convey what the composer dreamed many years ago, gives me hope and inspiration..maybe to one day, rise above the petty, hateful world so often surrounding me...Tosca dreamed of the day, and so do I...peace to all...

  • brava !

  • in the high pitch her voice is very beatiful!!!amazing

  • I used to listen to this rendition alone...but now I split my time between this one and Maria Slatinaru (a sublime & very spacious spinto voice...do a search for "Maria Slatinaru Tosca" on youtube)...

  • @SavHub i really like this one too... anna is playing santuzza in our production of cavalleria rusticana (&pagliacci) at the moment.

  • @SavHub i really like this one too... anna is playing santuzza in our production of cavalleria rusticana (&pagliacci) at the moment.

  • TheAnimeStop: I think that what you want to say is not aliens is foreigners. If you speak English the way you write it and because you are, like many others bastards like you on Angela page harassing people then yourself are a foreigner but a special one because you're MALAKA. Go back to Greece where you belong, parasite!

  • To say the fact the performance is outstanding, and you believe it most if Cavaradossi is performed by Roberto Alagna. But in my humble opinnion THE PERFORMANCE of this roll is Maria Callas' one, in 1953, with Distefano, Gobbi and Sabata. Nevertheless, this one is touching.

  • To be honest i find this performance stunning and as far as her voice is concerned she is perfect. However you should consider the fact that this is not live and Callas version just is unique and she is feeling what she is singing.I do not think that her performance was better than Callas, because maria had a very characteristic voice that made also the song she sang very charasteristic and of high caliber.

  • un'opera eterna

  • I Love It~~~!!!

  • I like this rendition very, very much. If anyone is interested to hear another very good one, I recommend you to listen Celine Bryne's version.

  • so Mrs Lincoln other than that did you enjoy the play ?

  • Thank you! I am in awe!

  • Perhaps it is just the sophisticated sound engineering, but I find her performance more nuanced than the 1956 Callas version.

  • Angela gheorghiu is by far the best i`ve heard.

    She creates emotion,nothing else matters.

  • I LOVE YOU, ANGELA!

  • One of my favorite Arias...period. She far surpasses Fleming. Dramatic Soprano's are a dime a dozen... she has a higher, lighter resonance which is what sets her apart. Sutherland did a superb job at this Aria as well. Battle is the only other Soprano in history willing to mention but alas she was a lyric. Perfect performance.

  • Magnificent!!!!!! I can feel it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know this song because of Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) thanks.

  • well ive watched this clip 4 times , its her voice without a doubt but im convinced in this clip she is miming.

  • @zzzed55

    That is correct.

If you had seen the complete setup for this film, they are switching between filming and studio takes.

But i think its a nearly perfect mime.

  • she is the best ive ever heard and she creates an emotion in me i didnt knew i even had as im a very hard man and an ex elite soldier

  • Callas was correct when she said that this aria had no place in "Tosca." That it made no sense.

  • Go to "Angela Gheorghiu at Kennedy Centrer Honors" on you tub to see the sffect of this song done to the entire audience. The people star crying including Ms. Grace Bambry, the honnored opera singer, you can see tears on the chicks or in their eyes. She is just the best and probably we gona have another Diva in the following 50 years from now. So please be nice to her, enjoy her singing to please the God for such gift.

  • Angela's voice and the sheer passion it portrays gives me goosebumps and bring tears to my eyes each time I hear tis beautiful aria. Amazing just truly amazing.

  • I have never heard a better version of this song, and I've listened to hundreds. WOW!!!

  • like button? I wish there was a love button!

  • The thing is, Gheoghiu has a fantastic voice, but damn, the orchestra performed flawlessly also. No matter how good a singer is, if the orchestra screws it up... you get the picture. But wow, what a gorgeous soprano.

  • wow, it will get to 1,000,000 views in a matter of days...

  • THE BEST!

Magniifico!!!!

  • oh God! I am in heaven!

  • @mamikonjan1000 I'm with you! God bless you, and your family & friends

  • @mamikonjan1000 I'm with you! God bless you, your family & friends

  • Please, talk about singing not about Romania. There are a lot of places to talk about Romania.I love Romania and I adore Angela, but let's talk only about this gifted singer.

  • @emotion70

You are right. Please forgive me.

  • @stickitupyapipe what did you do wrong?

  • Puccini must be a really happy man Does any one see an Italian car drifting around a corner while this plays Italians are brilliant at so many things

  • NEW MUSIC GROUP CAN DIN SKY

  • Beautiful, I love her! I love her La Traviata too!

  • Exquisite

  • Que linda voz é a dela com certeza uma das melhores sopranos da atualidade no momento.Bravo Angela!!!

  • @ stickitupyapipe maybe not all things are right here in Romania, but we have better people than you!

  • @luci747

Yeah, right. Like your wonderful gypsy community. Ha ha ha ha ha . Why don´t you clean the place up if you are so proud of it.? IT looks like a 3rd world African country with plastic and shit lying everywhere. You people have no pride in your country. You talk a lot, but where´s the action? Come and look at Germany. It´s the most modern, clean and progressive country in the world, and all that was builtr up in the last 70 years after the world flattened our country.

  • ...it's one of the reasons that Opera never really dies...this rendition...yes.

  • ...one of my most favorite arias of all time. Yes, other artists have sung this with more weight & power, but her interpretation through her skills & emotions makes it perfect & beautiful. Brava Angela <3

  • Montserrat Caballé does this way better. This isn't a live performance either by Gheorghiu, it's an overly produced music video. She does not sound like this live, believe me. She's great no doubt but Caballé has a better quality to her voice, a sweetness if you will. Anyway that's just my humble opinion:)

  • amazing !!!

  • I'm left breathless. I wish I had such a powerful voice.

  • amazing !!!

  • If you ever wanted to know what PERFECTION in humanity looks and sounds like? Well you just saw and heard it.

  • @RiCHarD199455 Jerk! Go listen to Lady Gaga, you clown!

  • Sublime. Angela es perfecta para la música de Puccini. Como dice el poeta, la voz de Angela "me hace libre, me pone alas..."

  • WOW!

  • Ghoerghiu is simply the best. No one sings this aria like her. Absolutely amazing.

  • @stickitupyapipe I think you are right; maybe except when you say "it is simply the best". I do think both the performance of Maria Callas is wonderful too and it is very difficult to compare performances, in particular when recorded at different times with different techniques (I mean: studio productions).

    Best regards,

    Jacques

PS: sorry for my English, I am a Frenchy!

  • @stickitupyapipe

Totally agree with you!!!!Her Tosca is the best!!!!!!

  • This is a beautiful, but very sad aria, and Angela sings it with exactly the degree of emotion, sadness, pining, whatever that it requires. It helps that she has a gorgeous, brilliantly trained voice.

  • Gheorghiu at her best is the equal of any soprano in history, I don't think this can be disputed even if we cannot hear the singers of the 19thc and before. Her technique, perfect pitch and simply glorious sound are a revelation. I adore Renata Tebaldi singing this aria in her 1960 recording (Decca) in Rome, but I have to confess that Gheorghiu surpasses even this -quite simply, outstanding!!

  • she's Romanian :)

  • @luci747

Yes. It´s quite amazing that this woman actually comes from that horrible shit hole.

  • @stickitupyapipe Yeah Nazi Germany was so much better

  • @jrgill58 @jrgill58

Nazi Germany? What´s Nazi Germany got to do with 2011? Moron.

What I saw of Romania last month when I was there, half the African 3rd world nations are better than you lot, and God knows, they are dire. Pull yourselve up and start acting like civilized humans and clean your country up. You are a disgrace to the European people. You live in a pig sty and pretend to be so civilized. Don´t act all offended if someone tells you the truth. Do something about it.

  • @stickitupyapipe Yep. It's good that there's a virtual place where we can enjoy your enchanting comments. Hm, apparently you got bored and you started throw words at my country. If you're the absolute beholder of the whole truth here's something to complete that: throwing your bad words didn't make your country or Romania better places but just dishonored you (if there was anything honorable about you). Never mind, here's something that might cheer you up: watch?v=kaitxAiv2oY&feature=related ;)

  • @Hogruul I´m not sure why, but I watched a bit of that link and you´ll be happy to know I think Gheorghiu is better. (that was a joke BTW). To get back on subject, I absolutely adore this womans voice. She propbably hates me for calling Romania a shit hole, but I´ll have to live with that. (please imagine I´m Dylan Moran and you will laugh when you read that) LOL.

  • But don't forget that was the Western Europe who demanded that Romania to destroy all State factories in order for them to be in European Union. This request never being amended to Poland or Hungary. The same bastards who held the Comunism in power, the same guys sold the Communist assets after '90 and now are the millionaires. That's why Romanians are overwhelmed by poverty while stupid idiots like you enjoy calling bad name. You insult the inteligence of everybody on this page dickhead!

  • @alexliliryan You should gave seen what they did to Germany 70 years ago my friend. It was a pile of rubble. But we took off our shirts and built it up again into the most powerful nation in Europe.

The first thing Romanians need to do is expell the alien population, all those thieving gypsies and the other dead weight dragging you down. The second is to develop a national party who puts Romania first. Kick out the thugs and traitors who are now in charge.

    Good luck.

  • @stickitupyapipe I know how damaged your country became after the war that was just because the Germans could not curb their enthusiasm they got in the streets chanting Deutschland, Deutschland Uberales In the Welt. And they got it. If the American would never voted in Congress "The Marshall" plan for Europe, your people, your grand children and g.g.grand children would have worked forever in underwear to rebuild Germany. Gypsies are not aliens or foreigners and don't belong to Romania. HEAR ME

  • @alexliliryan Why are you shouting? You don´t understand the meaning of, D D über alles. It was a national socialist call meaning the welfare of Germany before our own personal welfare, not what our enermies would have the world believe, ie, Germany to rule over the world. The Marshal plan was nothing more than the Americanization of our country. We would have rebuilt it better and stronger without the USA. At least we would still be Germans and not what we have become, German speaking Americans

  • @stickitupyapipe Are you a lady? To love your country is normal and a beautiful think. I do not want to challenge you just because you are German. IT'S BECAUSE YOU AIN'T FAIR! In Romania you're interested to open a market, France, too. What you going to do with the hordes of Turks? How about Greece, Portugal, Ireland etc. In eastern Europe Romania would've been a Diamond country not a shitty one. Even the gypsies live under one GOD like us all. And they're Christians, too. Let's show some love!

  • @alexliliryan Yes, you are right. I´m sorry for any hurt I caused.

Let us both just thank God for someone as great and inspirational as Angela.

    Peace my friend.

  • @stickitupyapipe First off I have never seen anyone settle an argument this peaceful on Youtube as you just did. Maybe this song had some effect lol. @alexiliryan I think stick is right when he says remove the illegals. As an American I can tell you that our illegal alien situation is becoming increasingly bad and its taking a huge toll on the U.S.A. Now I support anyone who comes to the U.S. legally, personally I find it quite flattering. Point being, if your not legal, than get out.

  • @TheAnimeStop I think that what you want to say is not aliens is foreigners. If you speak English the way you write it and because you are, like many others bastards like you on Angela page harassing people then yourself are a foreigner and your parents selling souvlakis on the streets. You're stupid MALAKA. Go back where you belong, parasite, pull your shirt and keep working untill you sweet to save Greece. Stop fishing and be a man not chobani

  • @TheAnimeStop You saw the picture of that lady and say: Girl pretty, MALAKA like it. There's only one think you don't know bastard that she's a German, and when she's going to learn that you are one of those lazy fucking Greeks who suck already half of trillion dollars mostly from German Profit with no intention to pay the money back, I love to hear what she says, you are a disgrace of all Europeans and soon you will be DEFAULTED.

  • @alexliliryan Lol....I think I made it clear that I was "American", not once did I say I was Greek. Whatever Greece's dept to Germany is, really couldn't bother me. Also what does it matter what Angela is? She has an amazing talent that I could listen to on a daily bases. I understand that you aren't too good at English, but you sure aren't making much sense at all.

  • @TheAnimeStop O yeah! You are an American but you write like a foreigner. Where did you see Aliens? Probably at Roslyn, New Mexico. Even if you are an American I can bet that you're not born in United States and more then this you are a dropped out living on your mammy and daddy income whatever money they make selling souvlaki on the streets so the boy have a nice life in America. Malaka Americano. And you are not the only one, I met lots of you.I don't care if you like or not Angela, get off!

  • @alexliliryan Lol ignorant Europeans making such bold and uneducated claims. The definition of an "Alien" is a foreigner, one who is not a naturalized citizen. Also my whole family was born here in America. Finally lol I've been working since the age of 12 to support myself, unlike you who are probably so dependent on the rest of the world to take care of you. Lol your whole argument is completely pointless. Did you grow up in a deprived little village?

  • @TheAnimeStop @25 years old and you spen your your time on computer instead to break your ass making money. Insteaad to go to school at 12 your're working. That means a lot, mister, this is what you going to do all your life the same job you done at 12. Because tou are dropped out no education no good job for you. At 12 you should go to school not to work. Work for what for peanuts. Ha Ha.Ha!

  • @alexliliryan I am a computer programmer and website designer. I specialize in a variety of different computer languages, ranging from PHP, C++, Ruby, and many more. Through these simple jobs alone I make thousands of dollars within hours. This does not include my online internet business which requires an hour of work per week but earns me over five thousand every week. Btw I manage a restaurant. From the looks of it you could never catch up to me, hell you can hardly speak English.

  • @stickitupyapipe Your you tube ID is: stick it up in your ass pipe? I laugh when I got it. Indeed you're right, too. Let's get over with this none.

  • @stickitupyapipe Your you tube ID is: stick it up in your ass pipe? I laugh when I got it. Indeed you're right, too. Let's get over with this none sense

  • Three great Tosca's on this page: Fleming, as always, luscious voice. but drags out the tempo--inexcusably on the final G# which seemed never to end; Georghiu is an

elegant singer and a fine and touching actress who, unlike Fleming, did NOT drag out the G#, but in fact gave it a bit less than its due; Kiri te Kanawa was the Goldilocks here--everything flawless and in perfect balance. Thanks for the trio.

  • this clip proves that if you have a world class performance and score, the camera work does not need to be complicated. This is mesmerising and beautiful.

  • One of the most moving pieces I have ever heard. Wonderful

  • She is veeeeeeeeeeeeeery good on this. Absolutely good, I'd say. My only concern is about the overall pace. Don't you guys find it to be a bit too rushed? I will appreciate your opinons. Ciao. Francesco

  • Oh my god, this makes me really crying. She is absolutely incredible..

  • Puccini wrote this aria to make us cry

  • agree... :'(

  • @VivaLaVostraMorte ... I don't pretent to know about opera technique etc, but she does have an enchantingly beautiful voice.... Does she have a voice/adquate technique that would allow her to venture into the Bel Canto repertoire? I'd love to hear her sing Lucia, Roberto Devereux, Lucrezia Borgia, Norma and Beatrice Di Tenda ... Let's hope she has it in her. I think she'd be wonderful.

  • @hayyu2008 yeah! she should try, i've heard her 'Je veux vivre' end i think that she can go futher... :P (Just my opinion)

  • I wanted to share (I hope you don't mind, Alice. Thanks for posting) my favorite soprano with everybody out there. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the Elisabetta-Aria on Utube and will post it tomorrow: the sheer musicality. I love this woman!

  • @operaxige: Again, sir or madame. (as the case may be), personal attacks and name calling are not necessary. I am not looking to be a troll... Ms. Gheorghiu is simply not on my top-ten list of great singers -- I think she over-interprets and does not allow the music and language to speak for itself, but that is a matter of taste and opinion, to which I am entitled. We're going to have to agree to disagree, but if you really need the last word, then take it. I have better things to do.

  • @yethica i'm sorry but i really don't think it's a matter of taste but of musical judgement capability. Music is nothing BUT interpretation;language without vocal expression is simply a notion. Music and language will never ever "speak for themselves".In fact that is the beauty of this art:the unicity of the moment .That's why an opera will never make the same impression on a live listener as on somenone who watches it on dvd e.g..Because it's a matter of INTERPRETATION.

  • @yethica In such case, why don't you listen to something else? It's not mandatory to listen Angela, you know?:)

  • @yethica I'm sorry that I have to intervene: Go to Angela honoring Grace Bumbry at Kennedy Center to see and watch for yourself what efect she produced to every much selected audience with the same aria 'Visi D'Arte. What do you think when soprano sings and the people cry? including Ms Bumbry who also sang this aria before at Met. You can see their eyes and tracks of tears on their chicks. I would like you to notice the necklace Prima Lady is wearing.Angela's our Godess and we love her very much

  • I know not all feel this way but I believe Gheorghiu has a wonderful, heartwrenching aria- I feel it and I think she sings it quite beautifully

  • BRAVO, ANGELA gHEROGHIU!

  • Magnifico, una voce dolce,Meravigliosa!!

  • She is stunning, but lack of passion. Callas version is the greatest of all time!!!

  • GOShhh she is just brilliant how someone has be so good, she let me spechless I fell I am going to the heaven and angels are singing.

  • If anyone, ever, tells you there is no magic in the world, send this half-dead person to 2:46 - 2:55.

  • Impresionante .... bellisima la interpretacion. Bravo Angela!

  • sorry but 82 people are fucked in the head, this is stunning!!!

  • @73kdt

    Indeed they are...

  • Tosca was written for a Romanian and will always sound better sung by a Romanian :) I liked the Callas and Kiri te Kanawa version

  • @cristixav well, i am romanian, and yes, i prefer callas version, but angela too, is simply amazing. since callas i did not heared such interpretation. bravo angela!

  • Couldn't ask for better...brings tears!

  • The problem with opera is that those of us of the lower orders are never allowed just to enjoy the beauty without supposedly appreciating the nuances and structures of the music then dissecting it in pompous ignorance at the cocktail party after. And yet I betcha I could have had a beer, or a red wine, with Joe Green and unpretiously had a pleasant time. For one thing we share a common conviction that the libretto is essential.

  • @deriter64 I welcome all who appreciate opera to listen to it, and ignore those whose pretentious nature precludes them from enjoying it as much as the true music appreciator. Beer goes great with opera!

  • @operaxige Thank you. You're very understanding.

  • Sorry, no contest with Maria Callas. There is no end of her rope angst. She is too conscious of technique and sounding good.

  • frumos canta moldoveanca asta a mea.sa fie sanatoasa.

  • Heartbreaking.

  • kopfschmerzen

  • To @lingepizda: absolutely right! Congartulations for your sofisticated point of view on that matter!!!

  • You saw that Poplavskaya girl?in Traviata:))))))))))))))))))y couldn`t stop laughting about it...shame on MET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!seems they are broke(can`t afford singers like Gheorghiu any more....of course because Gheorghiu is from another planet!!!!!Where is that Callas sense of singing?please GOD!!! those opera managers are killing the audiences with this new and unprofessional casting!!!

  • Made in Romania!

  • She's not bad, but she's imitating Callas.

  • @nandesneto ...absurd... she doesn't need imitate Callas, she's already a star by her own merits with her own style. Callas was a great singer but her style has nothing to do with Angela's. Any way I prefer Angela Gheorghiu than Maria Callas.

  • @nandesneto callas is death and she a live

  • 1,416 people drank the Kool-aid.

  • I can barely breath when this lady sings! Out (bloody)standing!!!!!!

  • How can 76 people possibly dislike this? I know that different people have different tastes, but if you don't like a particular genre of music pass on without comment if it's not to your taste. For me this is now my top favourite version of this aria. If this doesn't send a shiver down your spine then it's too late...for your already dead!
